This is how unelitist I am when I invite someone for Ambuscade ..

I ask for a tank, someone says they got PLD so I invite them. I don't bother checking their gear, because if we go in for a Normal Intense and they die in the first 2 seconds then they learn not to join my groups til they're better. However, if someone asks me "am I good enough for this?" then I'll check them out and give an honest opinion. Seriously .. give people a chance to fail, it might do them good and keep them playing. Your group can always make up for the weakest link, and at least the group gets to do something other than watching you /yell over and over.

It's way more fun that way, giving people a chance and all. I mean .. if you're only going to do VD Intense all the time, then that's the leaders problem, you don't HAVE to do VD Intense all the time, just bump it down to D, or even N, because then you teach players how to be better, so in the future those same players will have the motivation to gear enough to do VD with you.

Refusal to let others play is just hurting you when you need to fill the gaps. I've always felt reputation is important in this game, it's a hidden stat, if you're a *** no one will party with you. Of course all leaders make mistakes, but it's how you deal with those mistakes. Being callous and unforgiving does not make a good leader in anything, nevermind this game.

It is not a vertical progression game. Final Fantasy XIV is a vertical progression game if you would like to compare. When the premise of the game means utilizing a variety of gear sets to maximize performance across a variety of situations, such that players are actively encouraged to hoard gear (such that people still complain about not having enough inventory), I would define the game as a horizontal progression.

Threads like this usually exist because of people that don't understand the difference in vertical and horizontal progression. Just as a REMA weapon isn't the end-all-be-all, there's more to being a competent party member. My problem with the community is more along the lines of: what incentive is there for veteran players to take time to play and teach newer players? Sometimes you really have to dig around to find information about a specific fight or boss. Sometimes you might not find anything of relevance. Sometimes you just have to use trial and error. Sometimes you can find another way to do something or accomplish something with less than what was asked of you.

People are too afraid to fail that they don't care about playing the game. People only care about winning, such that they complain anything else is a waste of their time. People forget that a game like this isn't a finite game. There are no known or agreed upon players or rules or means of achieving total victory. Just as this isn't a vertical progression mmo, this isn't a finite game. People only lose when they run out of resources to continue playing or choose to exit the game. That's an infinite game. That's why people argue. If the game goes on forever than what is the point? If there's no actual winning the game, what's the point? If there's no end, why start? The point is to play. The point is to build a bigger table such that you can seat more guests at it to play with you. Guests that you would welcome back over an over again as life long friends. A game with no winners, a game that never ends.

Atleast, that's what it is to me.

I don't know what is worse talking about FFXI or playing it.

What if you get an aeonic with sparks gear? Same thing right?
