If any linkshell puts too much weight on any one player, regardless of the job they play, they are setting themselves up for eventual failure. Imo, a good linkshell is capable of getting things done without one or key perceived "key individuals".
It's so important to have several competent tanks, healers, etc because you never know when they'll go MIA. All too often I see linkshells beg on their recruitment pages for a WHM (for example) and once they get a single WHM to join their ranks, the WHM is "job-locked" (no pity from me because they knew what they signed up for beforehand) but it sucks because they will eventually get burnt out and the linkshell will be scrounging around for another.
All too often I see leadership in linkshells fail to realize that you need to prepare Plan B and in some instances, Plan C.
For those that wish to break out of their job-lock status. Find an event the job you wish to play more often, see if you can find a replacement for your usual slot in that particular event, and prove to everyone the worth of that job you desire to play more and what it brings to the table.
If you've done a good enough job of selling yourself AND your linkshell is capable of accomodating job changes, you'll find that you've broken the vicious repetitive cycle. Congrats!
If not, then chances are you haven't put nearly enough work into the job you wish to play more often and should focus more on gear/merits, along with getting more experience with it outside of your normal linkshell events. Patience is key.
