BLM for majority of events so it gets done right.

DRK for zergs or other tp burn scenarios.

I pretty much have these jobs because they bring what the LS needs to the table. LS needed more CORs so I got that almost done now too.

And yeah this thread is a huge *** fest. And I get it. hell, I've always been one to rotate jobs the best I can. Usually in my LS leadership suffers the most as far as being "stuck" on a job. But we do it because we want to win. We do it because it just has to be done. NM killing is what we like to do and by whatever means we will try to get it done.

This is the fact of endgame.

Your gonna play BLM to gear your NIN. Bottom line. Also you can't just expect to walk into an LS and take over a position. Usually LS have their main tanks who are experienced and well geared. If you want to step into that roll, play BLM. Get your homam and whatever else. Get the merits done and start on a day when so and so is sick or away. You may find yourself where you want to be with some time and effort.

SCH for everything, OMG THE HORROR...or wait I love SCH and do NOT want to play any other job at all.

SCH and NIN is all I have, and I only want to play SCH,so it works out well ^_^. SCH is never useless, and is useful for pretty much every situation imaginable.

If I'm not playing a job I enjoy, I get really bored, and end up quitting the game. I just can't do something I hate, I don't understand how people play jobs they HATE. I only play for fun, if I'm not having fun I'll go do something else. Plenty of other games to play, other stuff to do. I played aion, the worst game ever, sooo boring, so bad, so grindy, so after a game like that you learn to appreciate FUN.

Being exposed to those "trap" jobs however does help build appreciation for what it means to have a competent back line/tanks. Having a certain job shoved down your throat can be somewhat beneficial. In my case I had PLD shoved down my throat for a few weeks since some of our usual main tanks decided to bail. But hey, par for the course for being part of such a team. Gaps need to be filled in some way. When I first branched out beyond sky and dynamis, I was BLU 24/7 which helped learn a great deal more about the ins and outs of the job in any given outing. Though admittedly in the beginning I was more or less a stoneskin slave for the tank party. lol

The real trick is to either find an LS that isn't in such high demand of "x-job" as to have you on it 24/7 (though this could very well be a reason for letting someone in), or just not take it up in the first place. Of course that can be a major barrier to entry into endgame but I digress.

If any linkshell puts too much weight on any one player, regardless of the job they play, they are setting themselves up for eventual failure. Imo, a good linkshell is capable of getting things done without one or key perceived "key individuals".

It's so important to have several competent tanks, healers, etc because you never know when they'll go MIA. All too often I see linkshells beg on their recruitment pages for a WHM (for example) and once they get a single WHM to join their ranks, the WHM is "job-locked" (no pity from me because they knew what they signed up for beforehand) but it sucks because they will eventually get burnt out and the linkshell will be scrounging around for another.

All too often I see leadership in linkshells fail to realize that you need to prepare Plan B and in some instances, Plan C.

For those that wish to break out of their job-lock status. Find an event the job you wish to play more often, see if you can find a replacement for your usual slot in that particular event, and prove to everyone the worth of that job you desire to play more and what it brings to the table.

If you've done a good enough job of selling yourself AND your linkshell is capable of accomodating job changes, you'll find that you've broken the vicious repetitive cycle. Congrats!

If not, then chances are you haven't put nearly enough work into the job you wish to play more often and should focus more on gear/merits, along with getting more experience with it outside of your normal linkshell events. Patience is key.

I know a guy in my LS that did that with his COR until a sack caught him on it one day. He found himself going to events on it several times a week.

As a leader, I know that people hate to play the same job consistently, so I try to move people around on jobs. The only case where this is not true is when you're the only TH4 online, or you only have 1 job at 75. A lot of people ask to come different jobs and most of the time I allow it because I know that if I don't, they will get burned out and not want to come to XX-event because they're sick of getting a buffer on XX-job.

However, just know that if you're endgame hungry, and have a useful job, just know that you may have to "main" that job. I know, it sucks, but every role is important and you're all there for a common purpose (or so I hope), which is to plunder the riches and advantages of endgame activities, and in most cases, spend time with friends.

(main jobs for me are Sam & pld)
