This sounds very similar to previous BGP issues on NTT (unrelated to the game, only the map server and SE's datacenter). I would try connecting through a VPN or hotspot, see if you can move the character to another zone, then switch back to the initial connection.
If you are perma crashing, and don't want to wait:
This is for south sandy crashing
Download this old version of the file they changed:
file removed, no longer relevant
Goto
Final Fatasy XI/Rom/1/
rename 103.dat to 103orig.dat
put the file you downloaded above there in its place
Login and move to a different zone.
delete the 103.dat file you downloaded, rename the 103orig.dat to 103.dat so it's all back as it should be and just don't go near the leather guild again till they fix it. It's a broken effect in the leather guild.

Tried that and it still did not fix, i am however at the WW guild crashed out lol

So is it zoning in to those spots specifically. Like From ronf is fine. HP1 is fine Hp2 is fine etc but if you go to hp4 in South or zone from port to north you're screwed?
Why the hell are they *** with ww and leather dats in the first place.

I don't know if I needed to or if it worked or not, I changed it before warping to my home point in south sandy just in case, and didn't crash. So at the very least it's safe. and I'm probably just going to leave it there.

It's just adding insult to injury that since KRT got new mobs Ronfaure has been lost to other nations. It's insulting.

Did they do anything special at all for the Chaos fight or its just a regular BCNM with no new music or models?

Yeah it's just around those areas, it's also not 100% crash just 100% crash if you hit one of a few exact distances/locations from the area. There are a few exact locations that if you stand on it will crash and every time you login it will crash again.
I don't know why they would update those files at all, guessing it's just mistake.
Can you help me with what I do with that file once I download it? All those files are opened with notepad and it is all gibberish. Not sure how to rename it.

If you're confused just wait for the patch today, they will fix it soon enough.
However to rename, right mouse click on the file and pick rename.

Sure thing, but why are all the .dat files on my computer opened with notepad? They shouldn't be, should they?
Windows can assign files types to a program if you accidentally tell it to once, it's not a big deal don't worry.

Ok, thanks for that. I did move the file you provided into that ROM/1 folder and replaced the old. Still crashing upon login, any other thoughts?
Where are you crashing?
I actually tried again and started moving my char right when the screen loaded and that worked. I zoned the hell out of there. All good, thank you for your help!

They should fix it all up soon, it's just a bug around the leather and woodworking guilds. So avoid those till then

Radial Thanks for this fix, got stuck on the way to the WW store in north sandy (was good skilling up in the bottom floor, then went upstairs to sell items to make space and as I reached the door upstairs I crashed)

Thanks much, this worked great. Was starting to worry about having to wait till whenever this is fixed to get my char out of the carpenters guild area.

So wait, is the problem something with the dat itself? Or does putting the older dat still cause you to crash just not as quickly?

nvm, its not a npc listing dat, its something else...but its a HUGE difference.
Jan 2023 121/101.dat are ~3.2MB, old ones are ~1.6MB

Has anyone been able to successfully apply the Northern Sandy DAT fix noted above? I've tried 2 or 3 times now, re-downloading and applying the file. No dice for me here. When I log in, the screen stays black, my chat window appears and then the entire game immediately crashes. No other visuals even load on screen.
Tried doing a quick /pcmd add command for another character to get D2ed and potentially see salvation... no dice.
E-mail support told me to open a ticket in game. I told them I couldn't and they said "we can't help until we fix it but we are working on it"
Any thoughts?

Download the 121, open rom/1 and remove the old 121 entirely. Add the new 121. It should work.
I'm kind of shocked they haven't rolled out a hotfix for this yet. Losing an entire zone, especially one where dynamis happens on a regular basis, is a pretty major issue. There's a lot of story related content in sandy too, and some of it is voracious related. I didn't expect sandy would be quarantined for this long.
