Also I'll be working on trying to update some of the sets in this guide, I've been busy with work related stuff in the last few months and the updates have just kind of flown right over my head. I'll be sure to take all considerations made in the comments over the last few months.

On the topic of Occult Acumen, Does anyone know if the Raetic Staff +1 gives more MP TP from Occult Acumen commensurate with the additional MP consumed?

Occult Acumen allows for some interesting tricks besides manawell to free myrkr or one spell myrkr mp restoration. Blm can pretty easily solo skillchain. Here are a few examples. I hope this is helpful or at least food for thought for players who were unaware.

ItemSet 358776

Probably something like that for a baseline. BLM gets Occult Acumen II which is 50% TP per 100 MP. Those pieces add +97% TP for a total of 147% TP per 100 MP.

Occult Acumen is affected by Store TP keep in mind but you're probably not going out of your way to cast spells in Store TP... You can put Store TP+10 on a cape specifically made for Occult Acumen but you're losing MaB+10 in doing so. Now if you're getting XI Samurai Roll from a COR then we're cooking with fire.

If you want to overdo it do it like this (disregard the name):

ItemSet 349436

Helios Occult +10
Cape Store TP +10

Change Strap and Weapon to whatever you use normally. Set can be useful to build up certain Aftermaths.

Been doing some Occult Shenanigans a while back using SCH and Impact for its massive 666 MP Cost which translates into lots of TP:

Mythic is an interesting beast It can win if you say ws'd at 2950 tp you would get 49 mab from am putting you at +119 mab from the weapon but you would be -32 macc +38 mab (at best)from raetic.

Depending on your pt's buffs and the mob you could need that macc to hit unresisted dmg, if your resisting, it does not matter if it would do more dmg to a defenseless rabbit, you now do half if not an eighth of the damage.

under am 1 it may be better for the macc but we don't know the math on how much it gives, and since its not normally going to be used for am 1, its easy to say the mythic (depending on your gear and augs) has a harder time getting more macc.

As it is with all magic, you only preform as well as your gear, and your parties setup.

Still raetic staff is the best macc piece so you will need it.

Laevateinn, Get it if you want it, use it when you can, but it does fall short, as far as macc it probably beats a max grio with am 1 but will fall short otherwise.

Used raetic staff +1 and 119 AG mythic, obviously nq or 119 non Ag will change those numbers a bit.

Pure damage for bursting still cant get anything to beat Lathi, of course other options beat it on MACC, grio with 15int/29mab losses and raetic+1 as well.

Also interesting I kind of thought the archmage sabots+3 would beat out the Nails+1, but dont (of course the sabots have gobs of more macc/skill though)

Ok question as I am a little confused. I built my blm via the guides but I was told by a gentleman that I was wrong. My death precast has some fast-cast in in and my actual death set is listed below but he stated that I have to take death precast out because I am below 2k mp and your mp has to be full to cast death and my precast doesn't have 2k in it. Is this true? Also my actual death set is at 1891mp he said that's not enough.

ItemSet 359396

Grio-Magic burst dmg.+7%','INT+14','Mag. Acc.+16','"Mag.Atk.Bns."+25','Magic Damage +6

merlinic body- Mag. Acc.+25 "Mag.Atk.Bns."+25','Magic burst dmg.+6%','INT+7','Mag. Acc.+15

almaric path a

merlinic feet: Mag. Acc.+24 "Mag.Atk.Bns."+24','"Conserve MP"+1','MND+2','"Mag.Atk.Bns."+14

Just trying to get some tips if I could.

He is correct, the main factor of death is the MP you have when it goes off. so if your precast is gear swapping you out of a ton of MP you are not doing yourself any good

It's not that your MP HAS to be over 2000. It's just that adding that extra 100+MP to your set adds a lot of damage, once MAB, MDB, weather and affinity are factored in.

Edit::
From the first post of this guide...
Quote:
I know what it looks like but this does not necessarily mean you should cast death in whatever gear you have that has the most MP. First and foremost your death set can only be as good as your idle set and fast cast set. Whatever your max MP is during that cast at the lowest point is what you are going to have when the spell goes off. Ideally you want to build a special fast cast set specifically for Death precast. (I have a job file that handles this and original fast cast values automatically, but it does require a fair bit of setup). Also, while Death has less of a penalty to Magic Accuracy, it is still subject to the same resist rules that elemental magic is.

Quote:
A good number most people give is if your MP is above 2100 you should be able to hit 99,999 on a Death burst, I can confirm that even with 2000 MP so long as you have capped burst damage you can still happily hit 99,999 damage; also take care to remember that your MP is a great deal higher in Vorseal buffed zones, (i.e. Escha, and Reisenjima). One quick caveat on this though, Occult Accumen gives you 1/2 the amount of MP you consume so if you want to be able to Myrkr immediately after you should either aim for 2000+MP or use Seraphic Ampulla for the additional occult acumen. Hell I'd say use the Ampulla in all sets, it's only an 8 Magic Accuracy loss.

You can hit 99,999 with as low as 1800s as long as you have good gear in the other slots. I haven't really played BLM since post-nerf though so I could be talking out of my ***.

i haven't been around for a few years, is it still relevant to have separate gearsets for low nukes and high nukes? i don't see anything about it in the guide.

I also agree with what's said above, You do not necessarily have to be above 2000 MP, but you definitely should have a precast that is used for casting death which does not swap out as much MP, or just don't use a precast if you do not have the gear for that. Most here have said you can hit cap damage with as little as 1800 MP, which is true. Bear in mind though that if your fast cast set is not set up for Death specifically, it might be dropping you significantly below this.

I have seen several cases where someone thought the culprit for their damage going down was the MP in their death set, and the real cause was the lack of MP in their precast set.

It's simple math, if you are losing MP in the calculation, you will do less damage, but that does not mean it is not possible to cap damage without being above 2000 MP. That is a good metric, but it is not necessarily set in stone.

As for the High Tier and Low Tier nuke delineation, it's not that it's not a thing anymore, but rather, with the prevalence of MAB gear now, and how good some of the staves are, (particularly Raetic +1), Even the T3s tend to win with MAB gear now. You could probably still get more damage out of T1's and T2's with Magic Damage and INT, but I didn't really think it was worth mentioning as you'll almost always be casting higher tiers than that.

In short it would be one of those things that would only be geared for in a free nuke sets, as there isn't very much gear that does magic damage + burst, vice MAB+Burst; and even then only on fairly low tier nukes.
