F2P is a better business model much as people hate it. They make more money that way.

Problem being with F2P is this game is pretty old, most the people that didn't like the game to begin with was due to the UI and the battle style, FFXI wasn't button spammy like a bunch of other mmo's and people just never enjoyed it. In my opinion if they went F2P it would finally put all the nails in the coffin SE would need in order to shut down servers. I might get a kick out of playing for another month or two in F2P, but beyond that I would finally tire of the game and cancel/remove game.

I think this game go a bad enough rep when it first came out due to the battle style was vastly different and fairly more complicated than that of game such as WoW, which in my experience was a lot like KotOR and 14, "simon says push this button," and because the gameplay wasn't what people liked/were used to I feel is the reason it won't survive as an F2P, all the people that have played for years would get annoyed with the couple hundred or so new players just buying mythic weapons and quit. Game would be beat in a matter of days for new accounts. Just loses the appeal. Few new people would play because the game is so old and never had good rep in the MMO community to begin with.

Highly doubtful that they are canceling the game considering the fact that empy reforge hasn't even come out and they just announced a new battle content, whatever it was that starts with a "v." I didn't pay that much attention to it yet.




I agree as long as the game wasn't as long running as FFXI has been. Age kills games.

And there are often times there are also 1100-1200 people on. It scales depending on the time of day.

I seriously doubt it's a discontinuation of service.

If anything a new expansion accompanied with server merges is more likely given that Heavensward is almost out the door. SE may now find themselves with some crew members who need to do something to pass the time until XIV is in line for another expansion itself.

A new expansion could be cool, but honestly I'm not sure we even need one just yet. There really is a bunch of content to play around with right now; SoA is at LEAST as broad a sandbox as ToAU.

What it needs is something to tie it all together and give people a reason to go around doing a bunch of different stuff. Basically, we're primed for Ergons for all classes provided HP Bayld becomes less lame and it'd be a shame to just wipe our hands of what has been the best expansion to date for content in a walk.

FFXI was actually released before WoW.

Not to piss in the pudding, but there is profanity in that image.

My take away from this was that it looks like they are going to discuss a model free to play without fees or close down FFXi all together. Something about making enhancements to FFXIV. Who wants to translate this my Spanish is not all that great. Seems Mexico accounts got some additional details on the youtube conference.

Its probably a 2015/16 road map, mini expansions and public statement of confidence in the game.

Nobody know yet what are they going to talk about, but the 2 options with more possibilities are Free to play or close the service to favor FFXIV.
