WHo believes that SE close door cause of rumor or anonymous ppl should really think twice. I read that think that it will be june 2015.....so if it so,why they have roadmap for 2015? Why did plans for rest of year? Come out with Empy reforge? LOL could everyone please use his brain? Well... the post you are referring to did address this by expressing a disconnect between the devs and the top. I don't believe it, but I'm in a position of indifference. New content means I get to play a game longer that I enjoy. A shutdown means I can finally quit this damn addiction! So... Im ok with either.

I would not mind pay money to see that mandragora waddle around while shaking the fits (like the one in the game does) ... lol
Now all that rest up to do is wait and see ...

SE definitely wouldn't kill 11, I expect this will detail a tba expansion pack or mini expansions.
But if the game did die tomorrow, sucks for them @ losing all that subscription fee income; Everyone will just give their money to other developers. Some might convert over to XIV.

But if the game did die tomorrow, sucks for them @ losing all that subscription fee income; Everyone will just give their money to other developers. I would think SE as a company would die from being simultaneously punched in the face by its home base :<
Not to mention XIV and other games would also suffer from publisher angst like how DICE/EA games suffer.
Its an interesting doomsday theory to say the least, but its possible (Knowing the internet) :<

I dont think people would willingly convert to a game theyve seen as "Inferior" since its inception :<
I already know of at least a handful of my friends tried the game and went "Meh" because they are either super addicted to the play of XI and the snowflake effect OR dont like WoW and are under the delusion that XIV is exactly like WoW.

Some might convert over to XIV. I might. I don't play that mainly cause I can't afford two subs(nor do I have the time for two mmo).

Some might convert over to XIV. I might. I don't play that mainly cause I can't afford two subs(nor do I have the time for two mmo). In 1.0 they had a discount for those subbed to both. Not bringing that back is another thing that makes me think they want XI to fade. XIV obviously has better graphics, anyone who denies that is an idiot, and games nowadays put graphics before story. I can only imagine they think we care more about graphics, I dunno. But I kinda got the feeling they assumed people who had to choose one or the other would choose the one with better graphics.
They could make money off of a discount for subs to both; I pay $12.99/mo for XIV and paid $14.95/mo for XI because I had two mules, the usual was $12.95/mo. Think instead of paying roughly $26 for both, they made the discount like $18.99/mo or $20.99/mo. They are still making more than they would by making people just choose 1.

My stance exactly really, I've enjoyed XI on and off for the last 11 odd years, and I still do right now.
But if they decide to turn it off I won't be sad either, because then I can finally make time to play and actually finish the huge stack of single player games and watch the insane backlog of anime dvds and blu rays I have lying around.
And oh yeah, all those poor unread books....

People love to throw around the "end support for PS2/Xbox 360." I'm curious to know the number of people on either. Does anyone have that data handy? Seconded. That's kinda relevant.

No, but for the PS2 we can't do anything but expect them to.
Sony themselves have pulled the plug on the console shortly after Seekers of Adoulin came out, which was also the very last official game to be released on that console in Japan.
Xbox 360, maybe, maybe not, as it stands right now Square-Enix's MMO devision and Microsoft's Xbox devision aren't very good friends.
If it was up to Microsoft the Xbox 360 version of FFXI would have their own servers managed by Microsoft.
It's for that reason FFXIV will most likely never see an Xbox release.
Apart from that, FFXI will only run on Xbox for as long as Microsft keeps Xbox Live active for the 360.

there are two jobs I could think of for FFXI which would be priest as a new age White Mage and vamp which would be like Black Mage and Dark Knight merged into one.

I know this has been discussed before, but i dont see a motive (for drooping ps2 xbox support). afaik ffxi is still profitable as is. If had to guess dropping support of xbox and ps2 seems likely - maybe port to ps4 or xbox1

The likelyhood of them announcing something negative at this point is rather low. Hyping up an announcement like this never happens unless it's something positive or neutral. If they were to discontinue the service, they would just end up posting it on the website one day, not do it via stream announced 36 hours in advance.

Edyth - Official forums said: Press conferences are held to get news media's attention. Whatever news they have is not something that is just for current players; it's something they want people to notice (i.e., game websites). Drawing attention to the discontinuation of PS2 support would not be good for SE's public image. That would be a simple news update on the POL feed, like the discontinuation of technical support for Windows XP and the retiring of the German and French clients were.
This has to be something financially beneficial to SE, such as one or more of the following:
Subscription cost reduction
Massive game engine update / "Vana'diel Reborn"
New platform support (Vita, etc.)
New expansion
Offline FFXI
Free-to-play FFXI
Other things may be announced for current players too, like Monstrosity Strikes Back, server consolidation, major in-game changes for the better, etc. Yes it would. The playerbase has been calling for discontinuation of PS2 support for years. If I looked at any MMO and it was listed as supporting PS2, I'd steer clear. Removing the PS2 support would allow further progress, possibly extend the life of the game by a couple more years. Hell, if PS2 and 360 support were dropped, I'd come closer to believing another expansion were possible. It'd allow more storage, better graphics, higher levels, etc.
EDIT: Mark my words, if a new expansion is announced, PS2 WILL be discontinued and 360 either will too or will follow shortly after.

Honestly see it being a roadmap announcement or F2P, more than likely the roadmap announcement though. I don't think SE is willing to lose money with F2P even if they made a RMT AH via SE instead of the normal RMT.
Too many people would quit 11 if they made it F2P, my money is on roadmap, new expansion, possibly jobs etc.

I think SE is going to announce a new expansion, but it's only accessible while you're participating in Monstrosity! Also, you have to use monsters you raise in Mog Gardens!

Hopefully server merges as well.
Asura has 805 on right now... could use a bump in population.

Last I remember hearing is after Seekers, SE was basically playing Tetris with content, trying to fit everything in because the JP PS2 support didn't allow for much more.
I was honestly very surprised XI wasn't ported to the PS3 since the PS3 already had the software to play XI on PSN for the backwards compatible models.
