Gotta love politicians that dont have a brain cell, yess lets spend tax payer money on labeling violent videogames as being a factor in real life violent behavior, even tho there is zero proof. And lets take it a step farther and label most videogames that way even if they dont have violence.

The problem is that there are actually studies that show that watching a lot of TV and playing video games leads to violent behavior.

The problem with the studies are that they are very biased and actually prove nothing.

That's the problem with psychology statistics. They can be warped to show that almost anything is true. Like how watching Spongebob makes kids stupid.

Oh here we go again with a senior citizen who has never laid eyes on a video game jumping on the bandwagon and laying blame to video games instead of facing the fact that bad parenting causes violence in children, not video games.

Each generation has a scapegoat for this I guess... previous generation blamed it all on rock music, this one blames it all on video games.

violent videogames causes less violence because people take their frustration out in the virtual world instead of the real world.

The best part is that you can walk into a book store and find books, like books to read for fun not for information, that are 10x as violent as most video games... for real, the Fantasy genre is worse then anything I've seen in games and I know there is worse out there then what I've read XD

Yet do people make a big deal of that? No, there just books right?

I can't believe that is even used as a comparison by the man making the legislation. It's scientific fact that smoking causes harm in one way or another, I have not seen any concrete evidence to suggest video games cause violence in children, in fact the studies I have read show an increased ability to multi-task and make decisions under pressure.

The other point is that it's not like this is a major problem, there is maybe one or two extreme cases in the news each year of a video game inspiring an act of violence between children. I re-iterate that if a child does not understand that hitting another child with bricks or attempting to saw off their ears in real life is wrong, video games are the least of worries...

The Hunger Games series, is now a movie series, that is being released soon. The first movie is due out in about 6 days or so. It's a story in which 12-18 yr olds fight to the death... In very vicious fashion from what I understand. Yeah.. and little children read these kinds of books too. Yet books aren't to blame. Nope. Not one iota...

The book actually wan't too bad in the way it was written... not that children fighting to death on live TV isn't overly violent but it sounds more violent thinking about then when you actually read the book. Probably because it's a first person perspective they were able to skip around alot of it by having her not looking or something. The movie however will probably be a bit more on the violent end though because violence in movies sells.

Only in video games it causes problems after all /sarcasm

"I'll look on the bright side, and say, hey, at least it's a bipartisan bill, which proves that the Democrats and Republicans can work together as long as they're doing something dumb."

Lol this reminds me of Lewis Black where he says. "Democrats are a party of no ideas, and Republicans are a party of bad ideas. A Republican will go 'I HAVE A SHITTY IDEA!' and then a Democrat will go 'AND I CAN MAKE IT SHITTIER!'"

Ah the world of the unknown is great isn't it. Things like this work the same as cancer. Because you can't isolate a single controlled variable in a sea of endless variables, you're able to make an assertion without being able to prove it.

In this example, violent video games cause violence. There's a hundred other factors involved, but you can't test them at once. In the case of cancer, something new every week causes cancer. You can't isolate controlled variables, so you really have no way of knowing what causes these things to occur.

Next week, violent video games cause cancer.

Sigh....And the people of our country keep voting these people in. Wait...thats because the people who are in office, came from the stupid people. Reminds me of George Carlin.

Lets face it people. This country has become a playground for nonsense and is very quickly becoming a joke that even retards laugh at. Where the hell is that "I don't want to live on this planet anymore meme?" It fits here. I gave up caring about where this country is going because the majority are idiots. And in a democracy, the majority rules.

I don't understand video games, so I will blame all my problems on them.

I will now legislate warnings that after every person reads "Not a single Ruck was given"

???

I am shocked that my previous legislation has had no effect on anything, leading me to the obvious conclusion that I didn't legislate hard enough.

Welcome to the congressional world of circular reasoning.

There was one study once where they had some people who weren't gamers play God of War II. They had a group just play and go to work, and another group play, go to work, and think about the game while working (things like new combos, boss fight tactics etc). The group who thought about the video games all day were found to be more aggressive and had increased sciencey stuff in their blood that is related to aggression.

I don't really trust many studies like that myself though, as it seems that no matter what they always find what they intended to find one way or another.

Ok, ok, let's all settle down. Yes, this is ridiculous, and I don't know what the long term effects of this kind of thinking are. But I say, embrace this! In the short term, the effect is less 10 year old jerks running around first person shooters being idiots. I haven't touched an FPS in years, but for that reason, I approve!

If you are being told to go to work and think about new ways to kill you would be more agressive because thats how you would have to think aggresively and it would spill over from your thoughts. Honestly that test would be a good place for a "You don't say" image >.>

But even so. These people are thinking about violence in the realm of a video game. Not turning around in ther cubicle and going buck nasty with a BFG on the co worker they dislike.

Yeah that's pretty much what I was saying, they do what they need to so they can get the result they need.

Although I gotta say, if I spend the day thinking about crop circles and feeding those damn harvest sprites in Harvest Moon, sometimes I want to go on a farming spree afterwords.

My opinion is that this may be somewhat viable.

It says violent videogames lead to "aggressive behavior" not necessarily violent behavior. Look at people who play Call of Duty for example, and tell me how many people who play (not casual players though) and AREN'T aggressive.
