I only justified it to the degree of Nutritional facts. and IF the APA supporting it, which it currently wouldnt based on their 2010/2011 report they made on violent video games. Oh yah i agree with u on that. I think the APA needs to comment on this for that reason. I dont agree with your gay comment, the APA stated its genetic/biological u cant influence genetic traits. Correction, pparently last time they made an official statement on video games was 2003- Lolz Violent Video Games -American Psych Association I didn't make a gay comment. I said people have made assertions about gay people of similar kind, which makes it an apt parallel... but only in that right. Ramuh.Sagittario said: » Elder didn't even say anything aggressive he just made a misjudgement... all you guys calling him a homophobe and an *** then accuse him of being the aggressor :/ Reading his posts its obvious he IS gay though.. is it wrong to mention that? o.O; really? how do u know I'm not bi or transgender. I can like both men and women. I'm sorry but yah its fkn homophobic. Ur right it was inappropriate for me to call him an ***. I'm not retracting my homophobe statement. not a big deal really. What's it gonna do? Stop a few parents from buying some little kids a few games? Anyone who buys their own games will buy whatever the *** they wanna buy
I'm hoping one of the few politicians with atleast a couple brain cells left points out that theres already notices on videogames with violence on them, and the insanely obvious fact that the highly violent or non child friendly games require you to be 18 or have parent present just to buy. so its the classic case of its the parents job to moderate what their child plays/sees. NOT the general public. if the parent cant do their job as a parent well kinda sucks for them doesnt it?Why do "outraged" parents always point fingers anywhere they can except at themselves? If they dont want their child to play or see any violent videogame, DONT BUY IT, dont let their kid play at a friends house that the other childs parents wont respect their wishes on the subject etc. problem solved.
It's not homophobic, sorry Bacon. It's a narrow view, and naively innocent, that's all.
Weren't there serial killers back in the 60's-80's?
You gunna tell me Space Invaders and Pong caused that ***? Wrongly assuming you are gay is certainly something, but not homophoebic. I suggest you remind yourself of the meaning of the word as it is quite an accusation to make. They fear what they do not understand and label it as a danger. Cerberus.Tikal said: » It's not homophobic, sorry Bacon. It's a narrow view, and naively innocent, that's all. Your entitled to your opinion, I'm entitled to mine. I'm sorry but when your gay and u see children hanging them-self because some kids thought it was ok to assume a guy is gay, and out them publicly, for whatever reason, I do not take comments like that lightly. Not going to derail this thread further. Ramuh.Sagittario said: » I suggest you remind yourself of the meaning of the word as it is quite an accusation to make. This bill reminds me of the days when music was scrutinized with the dreaded "Parental Advisory" sticker. I think I was 13 or 14 at the time and I was buying a Korn CD, and the clerk upon checkout said to me: "Say you're 18." Dumbfounded I could only muster up a "whaa?"--"Just say you're eighteen."--"Okay, I'm 18."--"Cool! Enjoy your CD!"
I'm glad there are still people out there that can discern common sense out of sweeping generalizations that anything with questionable material suddenly poisoned the minds of the masses into being homicidal maniacs. Granted, in these days his job would be in great jeopardy if he practiced that at any rate. I apologize for saying something wrong and assuming something I had no proof of. You can think I'm homophobic or whatever you please. I meant no malice in my post and I'm sorry it rubbed people the wrong way.
It's not a matter of opinion. His comments were not homophobic (They did not show any range of negative sentiment toward homosexuals. He was trying to draw a comparison, and an accurate one truth be told.). Words like racism and homophobia should not ever be used lightly or incorrectly. The more they are used incorrectly, the less power they have. I can't tell you how many times someone says something is racist and I roll my eyes. I should never be rolling my eyes at the idea of racism, but when people pull the race card in inappropriate situations, it gets not only tiresome, but mandates scrutiny whenever the word is used, hurting the validity of the word in a cultural context.
I'll start out by apologizing for the unwarranted backlash, and EB held a great point in his post. Unfortunately the context was a sensitive one that rubbed some people the wrong way, including me because of made assumptions. However, it shouldn't make light of the excellent and relevant example. Sadly it was misunderstood on sensitive grounds. At the same time, those that retorted in such a defensive matter should not make light of given accusations by blowing a legitimate statement out of proportion for the very reasons Tikal just mentioned.
Making misunderstandings into ordeals is ultimately very counter productive to the cause you support so dearly. I just don't get what was wrong about it?

You give us a bad name. Your kind is the reason we don't have these so called "rights". Pretend to be high and mighty and "all for the gay community!" all you want. Its u closeted *** who fkn go to the psychologists and want to be straight that we get all these heterosexuals thinking its a fkn choice. Oh and by the way incase you didn't know Stonewall... its kinda famouse... U know drag queens riots, nypd! god u just gave me a great laugh..... Back on topic. If this bill goes through I would point out that it very likely violates the first amendment, much like this case here.
In particular this stood out to me "First, after reviewing the evidence here it is clear that the Rule's graphic-image requirements are not the type of purely factual and uncontroversial disclosures that arereviewable under this less stringent standard. To the contrary, the graphic images here were neither designed to protect the consumer from confusion or deception, nor to increase consumer awareness of smoking risks; rather, they were crafted to evoke astrong emotional response calculated to provoke the viewer to quit or never start smoking. Indeed, a report by the Institute of Medicine-an authority chiefly relied upon by the Government-very frankly acknowledges this very purpose" It is clearly a graphic image they are trying to put onto the games to deter sales in general. It amazes me that in the middle of a depression we are having now, they would do anything to hurt the sales of any company. But the government is not known for wise financial decisions. |
