If you dont want to lvl nin as a sub, just dont lvl it, sub whatever you like, it's your character. Don't be such a tool, learn to think for yourself.

dont listen to those ppl with the increadible helpful comments such as "omg epic fail" "everyone needs nin noob" they just have the problem of not having a real life. if you plan to live in ffxi, spend every day in there you probably will need nin, if not you definitely do not necessarily need to level it. nothing is required, its a game after all and it is meant to be fun. the term "noob" is only used by people that are far too far into this game to realize it is only a game and not real life.

the only mistake you made is you posted in this board where 90% of ppl are that kind of retards, just read up in other topics and you will see what audience you just asked for advice. there is a few people in here that are nice and one can talk to and discuss with, however the majority is totally HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE. just look at the first page of this thread and count the "omg noob"ish comments.

The only Subjob DNC *needs* is NIN. You can do everything you want to do with this subjob.

Other subs DNC should have access to are WAR, SAM and maybe WHM. Maybe /MNK, but I've honestly never had experience with it, and if you needed those counters you're probably better off going /NIN.

Listen to this, Niniann is one of the most informed DNCs i know of so their advice will most likely be bang on.

Only additions i can make are purely situational.
/DRG with wyvern earring if you're not capping/near capping haste

/THF for farming or party control (although /nin can often still be better)

/RDM for the flip side of /WHM. No haste but you get Phalanx. Although this will be gimped /RDM, its still 12~ dmg reduced. If you're taking 120 dmg then /RDM Phalanx is still as effective as a defending ring. Good for situations against many mobs or AoE spammers. Also get ice spikes which has a decent para rate even as sub, and en-spell tier 1 spells which will still do 15~ extra dmg.

/PLD This is NOT a common sub, nor one that will be useful in 99.9% of situations. However, if you are soloing a mob that has a very devistating 30 second burst such as hundred fists from a very hard hitting mob (i.e. a mob that you couldnt survive with just trance), then sentinel combined with fan dance can be of use.

/DRK is nearly as situational as /PLD, although not quite. A reliable second stun if violent flourish misses or resists is really the only merit of this sub.

You're right, but dnc is a job that really doesn't need a subjob to get their job done. I main dnc/nin always, but dnc is one of those jobs that can play extremely well /anything.

DNC can be, full stop, a very potent job with a massive amount of options. Your subjob should really reflect the option you took, be it DD, tank, solo, etc. /NIN really is seen as the most useful subjob because is useful in the most situations. Also with the advent of abyssea, /NIN can be used to assist with yellow staggers in the absence of a main NIN.

I haven't subbed anything but NIN on DNC in a long time, but I also haven't been slaughtering any monsters with good support in a long time.

The vast majority of the time, you will want to sub Ninja on Dancer.

there is of course no doubt about the usefulness of /nin but I dont think anybody would think I call nin useless being a nin main myself, but he asked about the necessity of levelling nin. if you go to a ls event tell them you dont have /nin levelled and you will get your niche in the activites. dont expect to be main tank but a friendly, relaxed social linkshell wont expect you to level jobs for their good.

If somebody tried to join us and they didn't have /NIN, I'd have to say that no, they would not get their niche in the activities. If we need you /NIN and you don't have /NIN then you're making the run more of a hassle than it needs to be for everyone else. Not having your subs at a decent level is lazy and selfish.

if you want to get the most out of DNC yes, you need /NIN. /SAM is really nice, but you're not gonna be soloing NMs in Abyssea with that. I mean unless you just want to level it to look pretty in the AF?

if you can't be arsed to level nin to 49 why bother leveling DNC in the first place.

Kmart gear.
lol

like that one huh? yea everyone does, we coined that phrase. insted of going. Danm this guy/girl sucks. then someone responds with. o yea what are they wearing? and you respond to all the old, cheap, out of date and wtf pieces of gear and empty holes. we simply respond .... Looks like they been shoping at Kmart. People all ewww or lol and they get the jist of it.

now while were not saying the gear they have is bad or not top shelf gear. its just not something that a up to date. incrowd want to be A-list player would wear to a formal event. sure each piece is sutational use. They Have there pluses and or minuses, but that doest mean i'm going to be caught wearing full teal 24/7. so sure lots of people are on budgets and dont have the resorces for the upscale gear. so we simply use a term that is understandable to the masses and isn't directlly insulting. some people love to shop at Kmart while others do not. and some popel look better wearing the pink then others do >.> sounds kinda uppity i know. but its eassier then omfg this noob is waring blah blah blah blanh blah blah blah.
when omg KMART shopper found it

Ultimately, whats been said already is pretty much true.

Get /NIN, it will help you A TON. It makes you more versitile, and yes, make sure you get EVERY Ninjutsu and :Ni spell you can learn from /NIN. It's a blessing as someone else mentioned for Grellow !!, I haven't experimented as much with other subs like WAR and SAM, but each has its own place as well. /MNK and /DRK, haven't really tried

I skimmed most of these posts, so sue me if I missed something, as they're great walls of text.

I assume the OP was asking about lvl 75+

What about soloing from say 37 to 45? As that is what I am currently doing, lol.

I tried thf and it didn't really add much.

With war I've noticed a difference, kills are a little quicker.

I hate people who just rip on others for asking a valid question, not everyone is as knowledgeable about the game as you, and i think half of these comments are just plain rude.

My answer to this, is that it seems like you dread leveling NIN, i also had the same thought a long time ago, i had DRK on 75 and taking THF up, and no /nin, someone told me i should level it but i kept putting it off.

In the end i decided to just go for it, the flag quest for Ninja is pretty easy to be honest, its simply an easy fight against some leeches in Korroloka tunnel, this does not take very long to do, specially if you have someone to escort you to the fight, the leeches themselves are very easily soloed by any job 75+

After you got Ninja, you may need to think about what you going to do when you level it, im actually in the process right now of levelling my NIN from 40 up to 50 and its a real good solo job with /dnc and using fields of valor.

NIN gets Utsusemi Ichi at level 12, this can be quested but you need high fame to activate the quest, the easiest way to do this is to go farm Yagudo Necklaces in Giddeus, take as much space as you possibly can and you basically need roughly 250 off these necklaces to get enough fame (you can check your fame level by seeing how much rice balls go for, from the mithra at the shop in the tenshodo lower jeuno, cant remember the exact price it needs to be right now) and keep running back and forth and trade your Yag necklaces to the NPC in Windurst Woods, might be best to set your home point in Windurst and take /blm subjob so you can simply farm > warp > trade > choco > farm > repeat

This seems like a lot of work, but its well worth it if you wish to get this without paying for it on AH, also it will get your fame high if you want to do SMN quests later.

NIN does not require a ton of awesome gear and tools, in the early levels you will have capped skills, and the only tools you really need is shihei for shadows, and the job is basically Provoke and cast shadows when they are down.

This was boring for me, but as i got higher with NIN, at level 25+ it started to become more fun, you can also quest the other scrolls like Jubaku Ichi, Kurayami Ichi etc which will be great for your DNC later when you wish to cast enfeebling on the monster.

People think, oh no i dont want to level NIN its too expensive! Its only expensive if you choose to buy all the tools and scrolls, NIN dont need to use the element reel(Doton Katon Hyoton etc) at lower levels as its a big waste of time, so you dont really need any of those until you get the NI versions of these spells when you reach 40+

Utsusemi NI can be expensive but its well worth it, you can either buy it or go do some BCNMs for it, personally i did the Royal Jelly BCNM a long time ago and got it that way.

When you combine the spells of Utsusemi NI and Ichi, DNC can become a tank and solo a lot of monsters that other jobs simply cannot.

DNC is very useful in Abyssea not just because it can survive and back up heal, but also because of the elemental reel that /NIN offers, people will be asking for this so you can Proc, personally i do not have a ton of experience in Abyssea, but this is what im told.

Do not dread levelling NIN, you may actually enjoy it, and your DNC will love you for it :) Peace

He also has RDM at 90 and really should have already levelled NIN to use as a sub for that. I have never really played RDM but even I know there are many situations where /NIN is necessary.

I'll give him that maybe he never wanted to tank/kite/what have you on RDM, so maybe it wasn't a necessity for him. It's more of the whole asking a stupid question when he should know better thing. As a RDM/WHM, he should more than understand why a DD would need /NIN.

It isn't as bad as you might think. I had NIN leveled to 49 but have recently decided it will be my next 90 and have been soloing it with DNC as a sub (DNC is my only other 90). The only thing I don't like about NIN is the expense, shihei are around 90k per stack of toolbags on Gilgamesh at the moment :/

I lol'd so hard i -almost- teared up.

But as funny and incredibly smart *** (and awesome) that was. i'd have to agree... As 90DNC that i use as a main, i'd have to say i'd probably throw something at my tv if i saw you as you mained something other than /NIN. Theres far too many advantages gained by sub ninja that will ever make being too lazy to level nin ok. of course if you hate it THAT bad, pay someone to escort you to korro, kill the leech, PL you to 12, make like what? 2 maybe 3 SMN burn parties for you (but like who does that ***anymore? >_>) and then go key it up in abyss until your 50. or, you can pay your way out of that one too. Your choice.. either way DNC without NIN kinda defeats the whole solo experience, bc for me,i like using my tpz on raping stuff instead of cure bombing myself cuz of the lack of shadows. (Yeah, i tried that whole /sam stage. the mediate every few minutes wasnt worth it -.-)

Do everyone who takes this job seriously a favor, and dont half *** it, unless u just want it to be your loljob you dont tell anyone about and keep your gimpyness to yourself and your lolphalanxringBLM buddies!

As a RDM/WHM, he should more than understand why a DD would need /NIN.
i understand that /nin is a vary good thing and sadly i dident get 75 before the cap went up or i might have lvled nin already. I'm mostly a support rdm and the before stated reason so i don't have any endgame exp. i lvled rdm for all it could do and i wanted to max my rdm before i did much else.

If you want anyone to take you seriously as a player you HAVE to unlock and level Ninja ASAP.

What part of Melee rdm is support? I don't mean to be THIS much of a *** about it but in the time you took faffing about making these two threads and replying to them, you could be finished with your NIN sub. No one is going to give you an excuse to be lazy about getting something this fundamental.

If you want solo duo or trio some NM then sadly you need /NIN end of the story. I went when was 80 with a friend for fun to Ash Dragon. We killed him but without shadow you wouldn't have survive for like 1/4 of the battle, since he hit hard, and he use the curse TP move, so if you are out shadow and he hit you, probably you dead. Now... unless you won't solo any NM and stuff, then you can go /sub you want. But... Dancer is fun because can do many things, not only heal (inside and outside abyssea). If you play DNC you must have /NIN to my opinion (but if you wont is not my problem). And please... stop to wear full time AF... buy some equip for god. Or hunt it.
