Ok, I've been living under a rock, and am now looking to buy a 60 GB PS3, I actually have my reasons as I still play older games and my PS2 no longer reads discs, it's an FFXI system only, now. So, I'm thinking either Gamestop (EGHH?) or Amazon (Hmm?) I dunno if I should trust a GS Refurb, I've heard of alot of problems, but Amazon could potentially be either worse or more expensive. Any ideas?

Ebay is pretty much your only option. you MIGHT be able to get one from gamestop if you search around. They have made those in 4 years and most owners are not willing to get rid of them.

From what I remember, eBay/PayPal is screwed up, on electronics, PayPal has been freezing funds for 21 days or until the buyer leaves good feedback, S&H being included in those funds, many sellers won't ship until their funds are released. It'd be alot of trouble to have money tied up for 21 days, and then even more trouble if I received a screwed up console then was unable to do anything due to aleady leaving good feedback.

DO NOT trust gamestop refurb's..

I bought one, it stopped reading discs in about a week, went back and traded it in for another one, was okay for 2-3 weeks (just passed my 30 day warranty) then it stopped working too..

I eventually just went to Bestbuy and bought a brand new slim model, then sold that peice of ***back to gamestop (was hoping and praying it would read the disc they put in, it rarely would read discs, it wasn't completely gone, but it might as well of been)

A slim, to me, would be a last resort. Eliminating the option of B/C completely was stupid. They should have atleast realeased a slightly more expensive model with B/C. I'm sure they'd sell.

You could probably buy a brand new ps3 AND ps2 for the same price that you're going to find a refurb ps3 that does everything you want. As far as I know a lot of the older models only have limited ps2 game support, there is a list of games they will not play. Also, if you're looking for the "other os" option, you're playing russian roulette in getting a refurb ps3 that hasn't been upgraded to the latest firmware(which nuked that option).

They will play practically any ps2 game you put in it.. The only ones that aren't supported (generally, I'm sure there's an exception or two out there) are completely obscure games that you probably have never heard of to begin with.

Your best bet is Amazon. That's where I got mine. Unless you have an abundance of Gamestops, Targets, BestBuys etc... I got tired of getting, "No, we're out." So, I said *** it and bought mine online.

No, not for Linux. And it's either 40 Gb or 80 Gb that is limited, 60 Gb, IIRC, is fully Backwards Compatable.

None of those places, save for Gamestop, sells them anymore, and it's rarely a Gamestop here gets one.

Yeah I didn't like the fact that they removed it either, but everyone and their mother was bitching and moaning about the price of a B/C PS3, so they removed the EE chip as one way to cut down on costs..

But what the one dude says is true, it would probably cost you less to buy a PS3 and a PS2, then buy a B/C PS3.. If you can even find one.. They're highly sought after, so they command a higher price and are quite rare.

You could try looking in department stores that carry games. I've often found that when they get new stock they just put it in front of the older stuff in their showcase, which of course means the older stuff never moves. While you might have some trouble finding a 60gb PS3, you might come across an older 80gb model that's backward compatible(not all 80gb's are b.c though, check the small red print on the box). Worth a shot anyway.

Maybe.. I'd rather have both in one system. Though I've heard that 60 Gbs overheat easily, IDK if Slims do as easily. Still I'd prefer to buy 2 in 1 than 2 in 2.

The reasonably priced 60 gb models on amazon are listed as broken or in nonworking condition. Any one that works is $400 or $500 . Brand new 120gb ps3 slim: $300 Brand new ps2 slim: $100 Both are guaranteed to work and be void of damage/scratches. Downside? No ps2 upscaling. Looks like gamestop has refurb fat ps2's for $50 and slims for $60 if you're interested in those.

That may be what I have to do. My Niece will just have to whine every 2-3 months when I toss FF12 in, to do a couple hundred dmg to Yiazmat, lol. Then again, there are still my old FF7-9. ; ;

Yeah it sucks having to have two different systems, but overall ti's the smarter thing to do, the only way you're going to find a B/C PS3, is probably if it's a used one, then if it breaks you'll have to shell out an extra 150 bucks to have it fixed by Sony.

The overheating issue is hit or miss.. Some people have problems with it on both systems, and some don't.. I've had both and never had an overheating issue on either. (I've actually had 3 different models, the first year 60GB with B/C, a fatboy 40GB with no B/C, and now a PS3 Slim)

Just don't confine your console to a tight closed in space, give it plenty of air to breathe and it should be fine regardless of model.

You got a best Buy around there? if so that is probably a good place to get any electronic seeing as they will insure it in case anything goes wrong. Like the xbox, PS3 also has an overheating issue "yellow light". For this reason and the fact that best buy will also insure your games and replace them if they get scratched or unreadable or any of that bs is a good reason for purchasing from there if it is an option.

I was gonna put it where my (don't laugh) VCR is, up top in the open air. Could never put a system up there, cause the controller cords hang down.

EDIT: As for Sony's fixes, IIRC, they used to simply replace it with a refurb that usually only lasted a month or 2.

The closest Best Buy is odd. They tried to screw me on my PC. Luckily, I had my receipt to prove it was still under warrenty, when the HD suddenly died.

You can download FF7 and 8 on PSN for your PS3. They look great on it btw. FF7 from PSN looks better than it did when I tried with my old B/C PS3.

Still the issue of FF9. My fave of the 3. Since my Disc 2 is scratced, I'd prolly just replace it with a download, but still. BTW, can I still put like a 700 GB HD in a slim?

Yeah you can still change out HD's in a Slim..

Not sure of the storage limits though.. I seem to recall reading a story on the PS forums of someone who tried to put in an absolutely massive drive (space wise, not actual size) and that it wouldn't work.

Why would you need that much space though? <.< 120GB is a shitload of space..

i bought my xbox 360 from a gamestop refurb and i've never had any problems w/ it. their warranty you can get is pretty nice. I also had a friend get a PS3 refurb on the Classen Blvd. store, and so far no issues.

Best of luck on your search! (-^.^)

If you do get a used one from gamestop, buy their extended warranty, I didn't and I soon regretted not doing so..

Don't know why they call them refurbished though.. I highly doubt they send them anywhere, probably just hit it with a can of air duster, a towel, and put it in one of those boxes and onto the shelf.

oh btw i've had my 360 for about almost 2 years now. no issues, no red ring, and my friend hasn't experienced any overheating w/ the PS3. An extra warranty is always good, but usually refurbs get a bad rap just because of it's a refurb, or there has been too many company/legal issues w/ the resellers :o

lol My problem here is, there are NEVER 60 GB models in stock here. So I dunno how that'd work out. Maybe I'll just buy a slim next week.

Yeah, you'll be lucky to find one, like I said, they're in high demand but are pretty rare (most people who have one don't want to let it go for ***, even if they never touch it)

I regret ever giving mine up =/
