Video Game Music You Can't Get Sick Of! (one Per Post)

One of the more beautiful pieces of music from FFXIV v1.0. Coerthas has and always will be my favorite zone in all of Eorzea because of both the scenery and the music alone. It's a rather relaxing, soothing melody with moments of the piano interjecting here and there. It's almost as if there is a conversation going on between the violin and the piano. The piano starts off then the violin chimes in merging together with the violin forming a single harmonious melody. Halfway through, the conversation stops and the piano continues. The violin is listening in the background before joining the conversation again. It's a soft, subtle conversation as if two friends were meeting and discussing each other's day.

Yes, another video game music I can never get tired of. I highly recommend getting a ZSNES and finding the DeJAP version of this game, or an ePSXe and the game itself. Outside of Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV, V, & VI, and Secret of Mana, Bahamut Lagoon, and Front Mission, Tales of Phantasia was one of the better non-Square RPGs (pre-Enix merger) released on the SNES. Other really good RPGs on the SNES were Earthbound (Mother 2), Star Ocean (Star Ocean First Departure on PSP), and Tactics Ogre. Tales of Phantasia is also in one of my "Top 5 Tales" games that I've played, with Tales of Xillia just recently added.

What is interesting about Tales of Phantasia was that it was the first SNES ROM to be 48Mbit (6MByte) in size. That and it was also the first SNES game to feature streaming audio voices to overcome the system's limited audio memory. It may sound garbled since it's streaming bits of audio from the cartridge but it was pretty advanced back then. Of course, when the game got ported to the GBA, and later on the PS1 and PSP, the sound quality was better as it got released on better systems.

It inserts just the right amount of tension and horror into a fight to make it feel so very wrong... like when Rydia was forced to fight the very Eidolons who raised her or when Ceodore is forced to fight his father. It's so obvious that no one involved wants to fight but has no choice and so the situation is filled with this heaviness, wrongness, and desperation that this song so very perfectly captures."
