I know there is a whole thread going on about the Mog Bonanza weapons, but wanted to hone in on just the Onion Sword III for DNC.
As a whole, does this sword seem worthy of picking for a DNC? I'm no DNC main, but do have my Twash fully augmented and all that jazz. With DNC having a D in sword just wasn't sure if those of you who have picked this were able to say it was well worth it?
My other option is really just Wizard's Rod for my SCH and GEO (using fully aug'd Leav on my BLM).
Out of all jobs it is probably most impactful on DNC, giving DNC a strong slashing option, especially when combined with ternary flourish (much shorter recast time vs climactic too).
Opens up DNC as a strong ody segs farm job, offering slashing to DNC's top tier piercing dmg and passable karambit blunt dmg, as well as offering haste samba to 1h DD (war/drg etc) and chocobo jig II for running about. If I was picking with DNC as a priority I would take onion sword III.
Yes this is because it doesn't have slashing dmg.... lol. Bringing a DNC with onion sword III is likely optimal given the fact it is giving everyone movement speed that doesnt interupt buffs and merited haste samba.
It is also going to come in handy on fights where weaponskill wall matters (although likely not on DNC).
People suggest it may be for the slashing damage - but where does that matter? Noone takes DNC to Ody C and the only hard slashing fights in Odyssey are Kalunga really. Not sure if anyone is gonna use DNC for Bumba V25 because they now have a sword.
Def not for Bumba I think, most strats avoid skillchains and Fast Blade II is fusion so would make light with Savage Blade.

DNC with slashing is ideal for Kalunga and Mboze. You are no longer gimped for segments too. Sword is also very useful for several other jobs as very strong weapon for fusion WS or slashing option. I would like to remind people that Limbus was also partially about damage types and they might keep that gimmick for new Limbus too.

Who is actually now going to take a DNC over WAR or SAM to Sheol C?
Who is actually going to swap any DD for DNC on Mboze or Kalunga V25?
It's 2025. We pretending that full clearing C is hard? I was topping parses while full clearing it on NIN years ago pre-v25, a job certain people around here still say is a bad segs DD because they're ignorant.
DNC should be quite capable in segs with this slashing option, to say nothing of the utility of a sprint that doesn't remove a buff.
If your primary concern is standing out as the prettiest pick-me princess in the PUG scene, go meta or go home.
However, if you enjoy playing DNC, either with friends or solo, Onion Sword III is a neat tool that opens up some fun and potentially useful options. None of the bonanza options are world-shaking; Pick something you'll enjoy for a job you like to play.
Unfortunately all 3 of those WS lack a bit of punch if you use them without their WS enhancing weapon. CDC disappoints even while main handing Almace.
WTF are you smoking.....
Expacian, Savage Blade and Fast Blade II hit hard AF with the TP Bonus sword, each in the upper five digits. Requiscat sucks and I'd try to avoid it whenever possible. CDC is variable, sometimes it hits hard, others it hits low, often it'll be right in the mediocre middle of 30~40K. Of course the light it produces will hit for 99K, which is what you are really using it for.
Prior to Onion Sword III Sword BLU had the issue where it hard a very strong Fragmentation and Distortion WS, but no way to connect them or make double light without using CA. Onion Sword III fills that niche and allows BLU to connect all it's strong options into a powerful light, then follow it up with a another capped double light.
Isn’t fbII the only way dnc gets access to a fusion ws? I think that is relevant on a job that can ws without meleeing for TP. Perhaps it will never be game changing, but it’s not like any of the other weapons is.

Technically yes but Ruthless > ruthless is fusion and a strong one at that, and is the only way for dnc to make fusion without doing wild flourish i think, could be mistaken
Moronic special snowflake players that pretend they have 5 friends that let them gimp their runs based on some paper math claims because they're such good fwends are the worst people. Fact still stands, in reality this is never happening. This is theory and fantasy and reality clearly offends you.
Not to "Well AKSHUALLY" or anything but...the other night we did some segments with:
My NIN with Yagyu
A friend's WAR with Onion Sword III
A friend's SAM with Mutsu-no-kami
So...yeah, some people do have friends, and they play FFXI with them, and they *** around with their toys.

Depends if you want a 1-step fusion or if you're OK with a 2-step, and depends if you mind using shitty WS or not.
They can also do:
Burning Blade -> Flat Blade
Asuran -> Combo (with Karambit)
Asuran -> Shoulder Tackle (With Karambit)
Spinning Attack -> Combo

Please explain why DNC is top choice for Xevioso and why wouldn't it be for Kalunga and Mboze? It provides unique 23%def down and haste samba for BRD, COR and DD on Kalunga. Can also easily throw emergency cures at Kalunga. Has massive native SB and some SBII options, so you can WS with 60~65 Subtle Blow on Mboze.
I think the argument is that DNC is optimal, because it brings a ton to the table. The job is all around very powerful, especially in a no-subjob situation. I can see it, personally.
