Just to piggyback on Velner,

It's not 30 yalms; it's somewhere around 15+/- (EDIT: to Trigger SoS). My group still kites him with a SC/MB setup. (SCH > Ice to COR HS > (FRAG)LS > (LIGHT)LS > (RAD)) It helps that I found a spot to keep him within the range of the bubble. I flash, foil, and erase (Run/Whm) myself from my kite area and have the Blm stun if I'm pinched for range with a bind. I use a self-targeted erase macro with an FC/equipset (about a 3.5-second recast with Vali/Vall). The Rdm is on hot standby to saboteur gravity if it takes longer than normal.

We have only lost a handful of times due to setting the stage since we started using this method. For example, Rdm DC, Rdm out of range and bound, which rarely happens. Sometimes, he will get away from me, and I have to kite around the room to get him as close to his spawn point as I can and get him back in the bubble. I sometimes also ride the back wall over the point from side to side, and it is sufficient to keep my distance from him. However, it is a fine line if gravity drops and the BLM is out of range to stun, and the RDM fell asleep...

Sorry this maybe a silly question but how can this boss get to setting the stage

He is killable in 1-2 skillchain without bolster?

Geo: indi-int entrust acumen bog/ea malaise, frazzle
Run: valence, pulls with gambit, 3x then rayke, will land right before first sc lands, 2nd sc lunge
Blm: runs in vido, mana well impact, burn
Sch1: tab for regen5/embrava then liquefaction > fusion > externator > dimidiation (if he doesn’t wipe tp)
Sch2: ebul bursting
Cor: wizard roll, fire shot, concentrate on extending sc

We’ve killed him in 1 Sc when he hasn’t wiped cor and run TP.

Edit: maybe people are referring to an Aminion job setup with run rdm sch blm geo cor?

The enraged version when you have stage 4 weapons will use Setting the Stage at 66% and 33% HP.
Thank you, knew I was missing something

Another question about Setting the Stage:

- its triggered around with the clown center, or around the target?

- in the kiting strategy, suppose the target is out of the range, will the mob hold on the move till he can use it, or will he skip/forget if the timing has passed, and reset the timer?

Thanks

It's 30 yalms (I think) from the target. And if you kite him, he will hold it until the tank is in range. In the early days when the WS wall was still ridiculous, we would Gravity and kite him and spank him with Seraph Blade every 10 seconds. It took more than 3 minutes to kill, but we never got hit by Setting the Stage. Here's a video on how we used to do it. Might be pertinent again with the enraged mode at Stage 4.

Sup Velner, ive been watching your videos and they really help me a lot.

An unrelated question, is that cleaving video in Crawlers Nest[S] still valid nowaday? I barely hear anyone talking about that camp in shell

Thanks

Can cleave in Crawler's Nest still, but there are uncleavable mobs, so you have to kill them individually, or drag them around the whole time while you kill the cleavable ones. This is the "nerf" they put in there a while ago.

Yes and no. It's still doable and still better EP then most options but it's a lot more hassle than it used to be. You need to be actively culling the Locus mobs as you go or they'll eventually jam up the enmity list such that you can't really tag incoming pulls. And those stupid Locus mobs take 0 AOE damage. Technically they can be slept and ignored, but still you deal with the enmity issue. If you're just using a PLD and no other DDs I suppose that won't matter too much. We can still pull around 300-350k/hour down there but it's much more annoying and much more dying than in the past. I usually just settle for KRT Beetles these days. Can also do 350k/hour and it's a lot less hassle.

No they made CN to handle tons of parties all at once so many people could enjoy. Instead a handful of very greedy people decided to monopolize the entire area making it hard for regular parties to get meaningful ML.

Typical "FU I got mine" mentality lead to that nerf.

What was the original reason why everybody kept suggesting to avoid level 2 SCs on Gartell with mage setup?

i.e. scission in place of Gravitation and induration in place of Distortion.

Was it to avoid helix tipically being used to make those 2 SCs? What's so bad about helix on Gartell, other than he can copy helix unto the tank? I mean if it's just that it's not really a big deal, is it?

You can still close without a Helix, so no real reason not to use Grav/Distortion. That being said sticking a helix on Gartell is a big deal cause lets say it lands for 2k, if he copies that to your tank that means every 10s he's going to take 2k damage on top of everything else. And if they helix lands for lets say 4k, then your tank just dies, followed by the rest of the pty when that helix is on the rest of the pty. I've killed my group a couple times cause of that before I finally got it right.

That being said I've heard you can stick something like a Luminohelix II on him at the start in like no gear for really low damage, then make your SC with the Tier 1 helix spells for long duration SC as it won't overwrite the Tier 2, but I've yet to actually try that.

If your helix is doing 10k damage per tock it's very bad. If he copies it over to the tank, it will floor them, and then he'll go from team member to team member basically one shotting them all. (In thunder hand mode).

Helix closers are very good though, because it extends the burst window by 3-4 seconds. I regularly get 2 bursts off of a helix closer myself (sch), when I close with a regular nuke, I only ever get one burst.

We've started doing L2s though on him, and having cor and run extend. Cor extends distortion, RUN extends Gravitation with either Axe, GAxe, or Prime GS.

Not sure if it matters but the light damage thing does affect the regular Triboulex. Casting Dia over 3 minutes reduced StS to 0. He died right after he did it.

Noticed some JP groups use RUN BLM SCH RDM GEO COR now, not sure what the idea is other than Frazzle but it didn't feel any slower than RUN BLM SCH SCH GEO COR when I joined one.

RDM in place of the 2nd SCH isn't uncommon, and is essential for Aminon groups. For normal runs the main benefit is Distract so that the COR and RUN can more easily participate in skillchains on EFGH, and the RDM can participate themselves.

My number 1 concern with swapping out a 2nd SCH for a RDM in a mage setup is the SCH running out of strats during some fights.

Cant really happen if you do it right, especially if you are not going for Aminon and can use Tabula for 2 out of 2 basement bosses.
Even without Tabula EFG it's still easy tho

E and G you can simply do Seraph(RDM) > Hot shot(COR) > Flat(RDM) > Savage(COR) > Dimidation(RUN). You dont even need SCH to make SC.

For F you can do Leaden(COR) > CDC(RDM) > Wildfire(COR) or Steel Cyclone(RUN) > Evisceration(RDM) > Wildfire(COR). Both are darkness > double darkness, so you can continue nuking and doing same SC whatever hand mode it has active. SCH can focus completely on nuking and can even use strats for Ebullience. RDM can nuke too and in case of E and G WSs and skillchains will add quite a lot of damage too.

H is Tabula and SCH do whatever skillchain is needed.

Why? Like I said one of the main benefits/differences of having a rdm is so that other people can participate in the skillchains. Sch won't be spending as many strats.
