Fixing the MW 3-8 Cashgrab

I think there's a very simple solution to the latest cashgrab that SE has made, and it would not only encourage more people to sign up for it, but might bring people back too.
Make each additional MW $1, and offer a bundle to get all 6 for $5.
People love to save money, and if it's a "deal" they will pay for it even if they don't need it.
Charging $2 for each one is just plain stupid. Yeah, there might be some people willing to pay for it, but I'll bet there are even more out there that won't. I sure don't want to pay double my sub fee, just for more space.
Personally, as much as I hate to do it, I'm canceling my sub, not directly because of this, but it did make the decision a lot easier. I hope that if SE can see how poor of an idea this was, they will change the price.

Looks like the thread starter, Asura.Wolfemasters, deleted their post now, lmfao.
^ This may not be the case waiting on a response from Rooks.^
Edit: Deleted everything I posted been busy helping with Windower updates last 2 days and didn't realize multiple threads about the same topic popped up.
I hate when people do that.
By Draylo 2022-02-12 03:29:04
Did we need another thread? You'll be back. They will make more money than they will lose, so all these people showboating aren't doing much. Rest will enjoy 0 inventory concerns ever again probably, and we will move on. If this bothers you so much, just imagine what they make on the XIV side of the cash grabs.

The difference with my thread is that I was trying to come up with an alternative to the $2 per MW option they already have. I understand they want to make money, but charging $12 for all of them is ridiculous. I've played this game on and off for (15+) years, and lately I was wondering if I should keep paying, this last update and cash grab is just too much for me to keep spending. I was already paying $18.95 a month, buying the extra MW would put me over $30 a month. Sadly, I just don't feel like this game is worth that much anymore.
I would like to keep playing, but something is going to have to change to bring me back.

Are you going to 14?

if you're that worried about the cost, you could find a nice private server to play on. sure some ***is broken, but a lot of it works and it's fun to goof around in earlier time frames. for a bit anyway.

I have not played 14 since they dropped the servers with the initial release and revamped the game. Tried it out, didn't like it, just never went back to it. I know they've improved it a lot since the original release, but I just never had an interest in tying it out again.

Here's the thing, Square Enix doesn't owe you a goddamn thing. Whining about it on these boards isn't gonna do you a damn bit of good. Whining about it on the Official forums will likely (rightfully) get you banned from there.

Stop trying to say SE is in the wrong here. This is like any other product anywhere else in the world. Do you go to walmart and cry because you couldn't afford something in there? No, you walk away and either buy a cheaper alternative or you get nothing. Nobody needs to bend to your want and desires. If 2$ is too expensive for you go make more money, sacrifice elsewhere so you can afford it, or, ya know, don't buy it at all.

Is it crazy to think that for as “simple” or “easy” of an upgrade this is commonly perceived to be, that maybe the only way they got the green light from corporate to do it, was to show some kind of return on their investment, for something as trivially small as $2.00 a pop? Just a thought.
So … I get 4 more *desperately* needed bags, for less than a crummy meal at literally any fast food place there is? I’m in. 100x I am in, and I’d even pay more if it helps sustain the game.
This also isn’t directed at anyone specific, But what never fails to amaze me is how disproportionally worked up people get over things that honestly just aren't that big of a deal - like every time the cost of gas goes up 10 cents for example. /shrug

You recently finished mastering all your jobs, that's the real reason you're taking a break. This is just a way to get some attention, or you would of stuck it in the current thread.

Did we need the last dedicated thread to it well after the news broke? Did we need it to run so many pages with worthless garbage?
Nope.

the best part is, judging by the fact that he owns a paltry 5 REMAs, it's safe to assume that all of his mastered jobs aren't anywhere near fully geared and doesn't have a need for the new wardrobes anyways.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what's listed on a ffxiah profile anymore. Probably often outdated. If you skip to augmented stage of a RMEA before flushing, it won't even pick up that weapon. Guildwork has been touchy and people are likely sick of bothering with it (I know I am).
However, you did make me click through and I found his bio amusing

I’m pretty happy with the addition, even though it has to be paid for, it just evens out for me. I will just cancel my 4 alts that were simply bag holders for items and pick up the wardrobes. My monthly cost stays the same for the most part, give or take a few bucks. But realistically, a few extra dollars a month isn’t that big of a deal

A lot of people already proposed solutions similar to yours in that thread, and they're very visible in the most recent pages at the time of posting this. I hope that in the future, you don't come to regret anything you said here.
In the end as Damnit said, it's not a huge deal. Your money is up to you with how you choose to spend it. These kinds of things are normal these days (whether they should or shouldn't be is a different story), but it's fun to make mountains out of molehills for the drama. Just don't get too heated about it
Btw do you actually need that many wardrobes?

Every time you actively make the scenario worse, you signal you're willing to accept another. And that makes it worse for everyone. Eventually they'll cross your line too.

Yes, that's called standard business-consumer relation. Business tries to push their profit, crossing more and more peoples' lines, until enough lines are crossed that they're forced by the consumers to back off. Acting like you're supposed to complain before they've crossed your line is asinine.

Well, its sad to say, but if the earnings of the game so far have been the qualifier to keep it going then this can only help going forward.

So then stop supporting it if that happens. Assuming it inevitably will is a fallacy.

Or, you address it before it can become an issue and you don't have to.
When you quit, you only help yourself. When you see the problem for the problem you help everyone.

When you quit, you only help yourself. When you see the problem for the problem you help everyone. "Addressing" something prematurely often hurts more than it helps, especially if doing it with insufficient information like in this case. For all we know, FFXI might have been shut down entirely soon without the additional profit from these new wardrobes (not implying that FFXI requires the wardrobes to make a profit, but rather that it's within the realm of possibility that FFXI might require the wardrobes to make enough of a profit for the bigwigs to consider it still worth it).
When you quit, it signals to SE that they've likely crossed another person's line, which is about all you can do with a company that sits across the globe. "Seeing the problem" helps no one.
This isn't a case where people are in danger or livelihoods are at risk (other than some RMT, perhaps) should SE eventually push too far, so there's zero problem with simply taking your business elsewhere, as business is supposed to be conducted.

The scenario isn't worse, the game costs the same today as it always has done. In real terms it actually costs much less, and we get more for that fee than we ever have before.
They used to sell us mini expansions (that offered less content than rhaps/vr), now we get them as part of the sub.
