FFXI: 2002-2021: 18.5 Years And Still Going Strong

18 years of updates to get this game where it's at now. Sure, it's had its ups and downs. There have been a lot of laughs, and a lot of "spilled blood" over the years.

I stopped playing for like 6 1/2 years, after I quit, i never thought I'd ever come back to this game in a million years. yet here I am.

People complain about a lot of things SE isn't doing, but there are still enough people choosing to play this MMO over others to keep it going, they must be doing something PARTIALLY right.

In that link is a great to reminisce over the good times and the bad, look back and laugh at the whole scenario some of us went through experiencing it all.

KB was always kited, people from other shells used to stand around to block and try cause a wipe.

I camped kings for years and my mind was blown when a JP shell called HigherPower straight tanked KB at 75 cap. They were a well known shell but that day We found out they all had relics. (Never ever saw them with a relic outside of that fight and relic were still super rare at the time)

Yes, just like every hit from Asuran Fists/Penta Thrust would return full TP for each hit, thus creating infinite loops.

I talked with a few people who played during beta, the game was pretty wild at first.
Having played during FFXIV alpha/beta/1.0, it pretty much followed the very same steps. Broken ***all around, they'd try random stuff and very slowly made it so that it was MUCH less broken.

When I originally took a break, I thought the same thing. Life was building momentum fast and I just didn't have the time to play for 6 hours a day hoping to accomplish something. When I learned about trusts and how it wasn't a camp-fest (outside empy) then I thought I'd test the waters.

People are going to complain no matter how much the company acts. Some people are just never content no matter how much they get.

Another fun fact that will blow some people's minds. Back then, we used macros! We didn't have 3rd party addons doing our work for us! *Pictures some guy who thinks he's elite going "wait whaaaaaaaat?"*

I’m old school. I still use macros and I prefer the equip set system to using luas(tried both). I have more fun this way.

I use windower, but about the only “add-ons” I use are recast and party buffs. I have been in love with part buffs since the first day I DL’d it. It make life on WHM 100x easier.

Lmao thanks, not planning on abandoning it! I'm about 40% done with 2012. Hoping to release that in May for the next free login campaign as that usually brings back more oldschoolers.

How many paid MMORPGs have been routinely updated for as long as FFXI has? I know of Everquest, but are there any others?

Changing out the four monthly Deeds RoE and swapping out the monthly ambuscade really shouldn't qualify as an update. Those are both things I really wish they would drop, but I fear will be around until the servers are taken down. It's like each month they poke the spaghetti code and one of these days it's going to have dire consequences. Several times things they swap out have come up totally wrong; enough so that each month people have to ask: "Is the HTBF listed in the menu the actual one that we're supposed to be doing this month"?

WoW is like a year younger than this game and it still gets expansions. They even updated the engine and graphics instead of making a whole new game. But then again, it's appealing to so many because of the vast amounts of instant gratification.

As a fellow whm, how do you utilize partybuffs? I have it set to whitelist mode, with icon size 20. The only whitelisted things are debuffs on my party. It makes me a status removal machine, and is basically clutter free. Curious what others do.

White list mode? Not sure what you mean. I just like how it’s right there next to the names. I think I did modify the size/position a little bit. But not too much. It’s great because as a WHM my eyes are usually glued to the bottom right corner of the screen.

It make me a stays removal machine. Also great for keeping cure skin up, as well.

I kinda miss FFXI before the nerf to monster linking. Crawlers Nest was always a party going on in that zone, lol.
