DirectX said: » Sylph.Snk said: » DirectX said: » Sylph.Snk said: » the game was literally burned to the ground because SEGA couldn't be asked to give a ***about their own game. Oh god where to begin. This is ancient history so I'll try and cap on more of the more noticeable things. The game was originally released on the SEGA Dreamcast. It was really I think Sonic Team's 1st attempt at an MMO so a lot of bad choices were made. To me the biggest thing was them not making sever side only characters. You could create and level a character in offline mode and then also play with it online as well. As noble as it was for SEGA to do this, It opened the door to a ton of ***. Let's see.. Now while duping was a thing you could avoid for the most part by playing in locked rooms with other like-minded people, the thing that made it a total ***show was people being able to enter a lobby and crash your game the moment you zoned in. These same people could follow you all around the servers by easily searching you and crashing you with no effort. There was also an exploit where they could 100% erase your character data and replace it with a low level npc named NOL. So all your gear and items and progress you worked on would be gone in a snap. And you think Tanaka's version of balance was funny, there was literally none in PSO. At all. There were 4 types of mobs in PSO which were usually based on the regions you were in. Native. A. Beast. Machine. Dark. You could find armor and weapons that had a certain % value of how much damage you could effect on each mob type. The thing is getting a weapon much less a rare weapon with a high % value was extremely rare as all ***. Like my best legit rare was a Red Sword (Really was a Great Sword) with 35% A.Beast with 25% Hit Rate which you can just count as accuracy in PSO. With how much of a *** Sonic Team didn't give? People were cranking out 100% weapons with 100% hit rates all day and night. Not to mention how many pieces of super rare armor that had drops rates like Sozu Rogberry pre-update were all over the place. It was a total clusterfuck and ruined any possible balance the game could have had. Looking at the Medal situation reminded me of PSO in that aspect of people just shitting out superior 5 weapons where everyone will have one and it's not longer something you'd see on a rare basis anymore. Edit: The game was released on the original Xbox and Gamecube much later on. I remember the Xbox Version got wrecked in a couple of days and the Gamecube version not too long after. *** Sonic Team for making a good game but with zero foresight in to how shitty people online can be. I was being figurative in that. In short they ruined their own game by not moderating it. They literally let the players run wild with massive cheating and did nothing to curb it. Edit: I'll Cool your story bro! *** you Staley! Go blow up more ***with that shield! Meh

I hope that they ban THOUSANDS! of people, and we get a real thread... but we won't QQ just wait for ejin or ruau to make a video and that one reposter who gets off on karma will share it to the Reddit

God knows tho I don't wanna bug ragu or sono Foxfire said: » I don't think we'd care enough on bg God knows tho I don't wanna bug ragu or sono They 100% would remove it, I posted about it a little in spam but that's it Caerda said: » Depends on the ban also, if its an IP ban they won't be back. SE has never been known to put an actual IP ban out. 'IP ban' in the terminology used here just means banning any characters with an IP overlap. You can still come right back on the same IP after, as long as you pay your 30 bucks.
You'll just be doing it without your gil, RMEA, shields, exploit, etc. I just imagine some developer working on FF14 or some new game at Square Enix being pulled away by his boss to fix "FFXI" again because people are hacking and him/her just rolling their eyes and saying "Not this shitagain" under their breath.
I can see them hating the grind of finding out who cheated and handing out ban hammers in a cubicle while being pulled away from a legit game they like for a dying game that they thought they would never have to work on again since they are low on man power. This is believable, but it's likely they have 1 or 2 guys that only work on FFXI, we don't have much reason to believe FFXI has many full time developers that truly understand their code. |
