the game was literally burned to the ground because SEGA couldn't be asked to give a ***about their own game.
What happened?

Oh god where to begin. This is ancient history so I'll try and cap on more of the more noticeable things.

The game was originally released on the SEGA Dreamcast. It was really I think Sonic Team's 1st attempt at an MMO so a lot of bad choices were made. To me the biggest thing was them not making sever side only characters.

You could create and level a character in offline mode and then also play with it online as well. As noble as it was for SEGA to do this, It opened the door to a ton of ***.

Let's see..

Now while duping was a thing you could avoid for the most part by playing in locked rooms with other like-minded people, the thing that made it a total ***show was people being able to enter a lobby and crash your game the moment you zoned in. These same people could follow you all around the servers by easily searching you and crashing you with no effort.

There was also an exploit where they could 100% erase your character data and replace it with a low level npc named NOL. So all your gear and items and progress you worked on would be gone in a snap.

And you think Tanaka's version of balance was funny, there was literally none in PSO. At all.

There were 4 types of mobs in PSO which were usually based on the regions you were in.

Native.
A. Beast.
Machine.
Dark.

You could find armor and weapons that had a certain % value of how much damage you could effect on each mob type. The thing is getting a weapon much less a rare weapon with a high % value was extremely rare as all ***.

Like my best legit rare was a Red Sword (Really was a Great Sword) with 35% A.Beast with 25% Hit Rate which you can just count as accuracy in PSO.

With how much of a *** Sonic Team didn't give? People were cranking out 100% weapons with 100% hit rates all day and night. Not to mention how many pieces of super rare armor that had drops rates like Sozu Rogberry pre-update were all over the place.

It was a total clusterfuck and ruined any possible balance the game could have had.

Looking at the Medal situation reminded me of PSO in that aspect of people just shitting out superior 5 weapons where everyone will have one and it's not longer something you'd see on a rare basis anymore.

Edit: The game was released on the original Xbox and Gamecube much later on. I remember the Xbox Version got wrecked in a couple of days and the Gamecube version not too long after.

*** Sonic Team for making a good game but with zero foresight in to how shitty people online can be.

To be fair, in your shoes i would have done the same. I am pissed for being named in the thread more than being banned since i did not profit from this, only beefed my char. In fact the three ppl you named made no money from this at all, and had it less than week.

Suposing the trick existed for 2 years and was exploited regularly, probably it just lasted so long because SE considered the income of medals "ok". Be it duped or through normal farming, it was expected the AH to have, at any given time, 50+ of each medal.

So if the exploit was fixed, i wonder if they will consider improving the natural rate of medals generation.

Time will tell if the exploit was actually unbalacing market if we see medals getting rarer/expensiver in sbort time.

It is about time SE to remove the 60h lockout on dyna

I'll be the first to come out and say it.

Thank you Thorny, for bringing stability back to the in-game economy, and eventually the RMT economy.

Aurix would still be chilling, handing out hundreds at a time.

You just confirmed (afaik it wasnt confirmed) that exploit was working through Aurix. After 30 pages you gave some hope to all those cheat thirsty people asking for details, that they will finally know how to do it XD

I can 3box around 80 medals a month + tons of shards. the only thing that SE should do is to let you trade shards for shards.

Oh my god exchanging shards NEEDS to happen. BST DRG PUP shards are *** useless, while COR THF and RUN are worth 5m.

So imbalanced.

Job specific buyables are so fail.

People speculated they removed Aurix to not let people convert medals and try to hide medals this way. There was still no confirmation that exploit was through Aurix. Not that I care lol. I hope they can fix it fast. If medals will be even more rare and I can make even more gils from farming dyna, then great!

It's ***, but it's still better than what they have. It takes 500 nin shards to equal 1 cor shard, so 10:1 is VERY reasonable.

even if they let you trade 10 different kinds of shards for one of your choice its still BS cause they'll clog up your inventory forever.
with a bit smarts/luck and the way it currently is you can predict the next bandwagon job and make a good deal.

Sure yall wrote a automated script to trade the correct amount because doing that manually would take forever. So simple, makes you think what else is out there.

Just a small question in regards to the crafting aspect of this story: if the bans affect Necks and weapons wouldn't this sort of be bad for business on Square's end? Even non highly desirable items seems to be in supply on Asura and I've know quite a few people who have paid the $$ to transfer a mule, buy items normally not available on our server. Or does it not matter st this point?

It's pretty questionable. People capping out and having nothing to get is bad for business, as is crafters having to compete against people who are getting half their mats for free.

This did not only effect Asura either, so as far as transfers, Asura is least likely to stop having well stocked auctions. The other servers, generating far fewer medals, will probably have more shortages and generate more transfers.

Panta raised a good point though, consider that if supply dries up, SE is much more likely to give higher rewards from dynamis itself to compensate. The artificial supply may have been keeping dynamis shitty, because in their eyes it was all OK. Kindred's briefly hit 5m, even with people likely using this lightly. They only started to drop when these people went nuts.

Answered yourself, kind of. I bolded it above, but to point it out here, you said "bad for business" and then also said you knew "quite a few people who have paid the $$ to transfer a mule". Probably balance. When in doubt, blame balance.

He's right though, easy to act like you knew what was up when Aurix is gone and nobody can confirm that you're full of ***.
