My stubborn friend is going to waste 30k alex on SAM mythic because he thinks it will outperform Aeonic & Empy can someone else confirm to him that Aeonic and Empy are now both the better SAM dd weapon.

Yep koga is well behind masa/doji atm. If anything having it will help futureproof his sam for future updates. For now, it collects dust if the sam has one of the other two.

Perhaps he's a collector? Maybe he loves SAM that much he doesn't mind "wasting" 30k Alex? I've got a Redemption, I'm never going to use it, but I love it all the same and don't feel like I wasted my time getting it years ago.

Ditto, but for me and my afterglow Mandau back when you needed 250 marrows and they were 3-5m a piece. In the overall grand scheme of things, it wasn't -that- much effort

hadn't even considered "The Collector" angle....which is quite a shame when you look at my Ranger toys. Hell I'm even considering making an Armageddon just because its something I don't have for Ranger- doubt I'd use it more than twice.

Nothing wrong with simply having everything. Koga is on the road to that. Alexandrite isn't exactly hard to come by anymore. I'm only missing Doji myself.
I use mine on Kei. And whenever I feel like I can get more out of it over other weapons, which admittedly isn't often. It's just fun and that's plenty reason to make one.

Make what you want op's friend. Just because there are better options don't make it bad. Hell, I have conqueror and liberator ag'd because I wanted em even though there are better options for war and drk.
SAM is always a safe job to invest into. If you are unsure/on the fence, collect the materials while they are at a price that is agreeable to your budget and wait until the November update before throwing them into the NPC abyss.
If you wait for SE to do something worthwhile expect to wait a long time. I could see the November update being a big disappointment. And a "please look forward to Dec update"
But don't let that stop you from obtaining weapons as a personal goal. That is about all there is left to do in the game.

I have a Koga, i like my Koga and i will not make Empy. So far, in escha/omen boss fights i have yet to be out parsed by the other 2 GKs. Here's the thing, my sam is... ok. It is far from perfect and it always will be, i don't have the time or gil to invest in BiS gear anymore.
This is the problem with most "new" players, they see the "tests" that are done by people in the community that have been playing for years and know their stuff, when they do these "Tests" they use BiS gear. So a test may show that Aeonic or Empy is "The best" but if you don't have BiS gear to go with it, you will fall short against someone that is better geared but has a "worse weapon"
