Eighteen days. I'm actually surprised it only took that long, given the government's propensity to investigate at the speed of snail, and given the fact that Trump had a crapload of stuff to deal with as a brand new president.
Sometimes these things take time to play out, because there are a lot of optics and strategies involved with firing someone. You want to make sure you're not reacting before you have all the facts.
And btw, eighteen days is less than the time it took for Anthony Weiner to go from Twittering a picture of his crotch to actually resigning.
