I guess that would be consistent with this message I keep getting:

Did you make sure you updated your files? What plugin gives you that error message?

Thank you guys so much for all the troubleshooting and hardwork you put into making Windower function. I couldn't play this game without your superb support. Once again, deepest gratitude. :-)

They just announced for the August patch that you will be able to "see status effects applied to party members".
That's a bit generic, but I was wondering if the additional bytes they added to the packets could've been in preparation for this sort of information?

Maybe now there will be data about current buffs/debuffs been sent between server<>client and you'll be able to manually check those with a specific command? Like dunno /checkstuff <playername> ?

Byrth is this a likely scenario or completely unrelated to those additional bytes?

Probably completely unrelated. It's the wrong direction for extra information (client->server) and an unrelated packet (action instead of something character-info related).

Maybe that will be in the extra hex code that was added this last updates?

I can't picture them showing party buffs and debuffs on screen with the current ui, and I don't see a new ui coming either.

I'm thinking of them using a specific command like /targetinfo <t>
Or can someone think of other more SE-like solutions?

A command like that could work both client side and server side in two possible scenarios I see
1) client - data is pulled from the server through other communication packets and then stored temporarily in the client cache. When you execute the command, it pulls data from there.
2) server - when you execute the command a request is sent to the server which will reply with the requested data in a few secs.

1) is how checkparam works, more or less? Or not. The requested data is only relative to the client, it just isn't normally displayed.
Yeah I guess 1) is unlikely, but 2) could be a possible scenario?

I bet they just expand the PC update packet and add it to the UI somehow.

It'd be more generally useful if it were visual, like icons on the party list or HP bar when you target them. Or just next to the name. That'd be similar to what XIV does right?

Making a text command like that would diminish the general usefulness. Not that it wouldn't be useful to see as well, but the "at a glance" angle of having that information displayed is what'd make it great.

Kinda wonder if the extra packet data might be consolidating things server side? Like if it's storing macros there instead of just backing up/restoring them, maybe it'll be sending commands referencing it directly?

Of course having it on screen would be more useful, but how can you do that in FFXI? We're talking about an insane amount of possible buffs/debuffs icons.
There's no way they're gonna find a place on screen to visualize real-time the buffs of all party members.

And I agree the manual command would be much less useful, altough not completely useless either.

If that kind of information gets imbued into packets, it means it can be manipulated by add-ons, which kinda means that addons like Timers or other new, similar ones, could have very detailed and exact ways to track buffs/debuffs instead of relying on chat messages.
In this scenario it could be an awesome improvement, supposing anybody would ever find the will and/or time to develop around this new key feature.
