Full Active Time Events. Dynamic scenarios. Lots of moving parts to the event that make it hog resources. And the PS2 already struggles with FFXI. FATES would probably kill it.

Well don't think they actually said it would be for outside japan. They have far better networks set up there I beleive.

My thoughts
It's because they host some really nasty F2P cash-transaction games like Maple Story and Mabinogi, both of which have bad reputations for gouging players with cash-transactions and cash-sink style game features.
I did wonder if that would have been a lead-in introduction into an FFXI F2P business model, but it wasn't brought up.

No updates, just maintenance if I read correctly.

No change in subscription policy is a bit disappointing, but not unexpected. No doubt some time after major content is finished being added they'll cut sub fee, but don't expect F2P.
Also, there was no mention of having to buy the add-on content.

So are the games themselves bad? Do they run badly? I'm just curious if they were doing just a mobile port of XI, then the gouging they do in their own games wouldn't apply.
