Isn't there a biological mechanism with pheromones that encourages genetic variation by making family members repulsed by their own familial pheromones?
Yes, but you have to be exposed to those pheromones since childhood for that to work. It's a negative association type of thing.

Hmmm. You learn something new everyday! I was under the impression that it was instinctual rather than immersion, granted it's been a while since I've read up on it.

Whatever...Maybe she has one helluva Electra Complex! Ugh...The dad. How does he legitimize this?
There is, Dan Savage named it in an incest letter a few months ago. I forget the name.

Problem is it isn't automatic, its conditioned. They didn't live together for quite some time.

In Virginia it is limited to first cousins and beyond. No parent, grandparent or siblings is legal.

Also, according to dumblaws.com...
Quote:
It is legal for a male to have sex with an animal as long as it does not exceed 40 lbs.
I dont know whats weirder, the sex with animals, or the fact they thought about it enough to put a weight limit to it.
Quote:
§ 18.2-366. Adultery and fornication by persons forbidden to marry; incest.

A. Any person who commits adultery or fornication with any person whom he or she is forbidden by law to marry shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor except as provided by subsection B.

B. Any person who commits adultery or fornication with his daughter or granddaughter, or with her son or grandson, or her father or his mother, shall be guilty of a Class 5 felony. However, if a parent or grandparent commits adultery or fornication with his or her child or grandchild, and such child or grandchild is at least thirteen years of age but less than eighteen years of age at the time of the offense, such parent or grandparent shall be guilty of a Class 3 felony.

C. For the purposes of this section, parent includes step-parent, grandparent includes step-grandparent, child includes a step-child, and grandchild includes a step-grandchild.

(Code 1950, § 18.1-191; 1960, c. 358; 1975, cc. 14, 15; 1981, c. 397; 1993, c. 703; 2014, c. 542.)

That being said: I know a halfbrother/sister that got married, but hey, they're from Elkton, it surpasses West Virginia in the level of dumbass hillbillies.

Incest is pretty *** sick, most people can't handle it. Probably why the 2013 release of the remake of Oldboy never got any attention.

Eh, the genetic defects you hear about are mostly exaggerated. There are definitely risks when narrowing the gene pool, but a single incestuous offspring is very unlikely to have defects unless they are prominent in the family.

No, its actually a very big possibility, especially when the offspring is not of a mixed ethnicity. You have 2 sets of genes that repeat and you start to get problems, each Kidhas 1/2 from either parent.

Father X1Y1 Daughter X1X2 they

Son X1Y1 or X2Y1 (so hope for a god damn boy)
Daughter X1X1 or X1X2 (1/4 chances and if a girl 1/2)

The above is extremely simplistic, it gets much worse if the Father and Mother (of the daughter he breeds with) shared genes then x1 might not be pure and could overlap with X2.

I'd agree if say a Black man had a child with a White woman, but if two white people or black people breed with their children the chances for defects goes up. Then you further compound by ethnicity, religion etc etc.

You get to a point where 2 people with no obvious direct blood ties are much closer then it first appears.

After all it is said that the human race almost went extinct and there were as few as 10,000 of us. That's a small pool to begin with.

Last and most important. These two seem pretty dumb, like dead log level IQ. They should not breed with anyone else, ever, especially each other.

Very simple, Orthodox religions tend to marry only within orthodox religions, this FURTHER limits the gene pool. If you can only marry orthodox Jew that limits you, then there are even sects within orthodoxy, which further limits.

You end up with Satmar only being able to marry Satmar, but every frkin Satmar is releated to one another, its a really bad worse case scenario, but it is not a hypothetical, its real.

edit: other orthodox religions suffice for an example, or even small closed off cults/christian sects. Look at the Amish, with out new blood or marrying outside of Amish same deal.

They are moving to New Jersey, not currently living there. Which means in their current state they might be breaking a variety of laws.

Any significantly older person who preys on teenagers is disgusting, a father doing this is more so. It's incredibly easy for authority figures to coerce or 'groom' teenagers.

They've been 'dating' for two years, since she was 16 but maybe younger as we don't know details.

He was also around during her early years.

Quote:
The woman told the magazine she’d had little contact with her father from the age of five through the age of 15, when he reached out to the woman’s mother and asked to reconnect with the woman. They eventually reunited and have been in a "romantic relationship of almost two years," according to the magazine.

The magazine doesn't expressly indicate when the relationship became sexual or the state in which the couple resides.

In New Jersey, a parent who has sex with their child under the age of 18 can be charged both with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Bianchi said. Given the length of the alleged relationship, Bianchi said, "an inventive prosecutor" could argue that the woman may have been mentally incapacitated because she's been a victim of abuse.

"If I had a doctor that believed that, I'd argue, as a prosecutor, that she had been groomed, sexually abused and can't really make a competent decision," Bianchi said. "She may be mentally incapacitated because she's a victim of abuse."

"I don't want to condone, as a prosecutor, those fathers who have a predilection for having sex with their children, that they can start grooming (their children) illegally, and, say, 'you can't touch me now,' when they turn 18," he said. "It all depends on the quality of the facts."

The woman also told the magazine the two plan on having children together. Experts say the children of closely related people — including siblings and an ancestor and a descendant — often suffer from profound and normally rare genetic ailments.

Same sex marriage from two nonrelated consenting adults =/= incest

Being in any position of authority over a child/teenager and encouraging them to see you in a sexual manner is taking advantage of them, at the minimum.

Generations of small genepools is a very different thing than one incestuous pairing in terms of possible genetic defects. Of course if you repeat the process many times over, the risks increase, but a pair of first cousins having a child isn't going to result in Rocky Dennis.

This topic isn't necessarily about incest as much as it is about a sexual predator and his victim.

Nope, its more about incests as far fewer would care if it wasn't. Woman Father, right in the title.

also you asked a question about religion, I answered.

These two seem to be from some very small town/backwoods gene pool, getting a very hill billy vibe from this whole article.

It's just being used a buzzword to get people's attention. The man didn't raise her, they never had a relationship until she was nearly 18. It follows the pattern of a sexual predator not incestuous sexual abuse.

he is a sexual predator, and it is incest.

you can not semantics your way out of it, sorry.

Again not disagreeing with the pedophile/abuse issue.

But incest, only reason as many clicked or cared.

Of course the OP could of put

"Young girl sexually groomed/abused by older man" in title... But far less would of clicked/cared.

edit: has nothing to do with being raised by him or not, he is her biological father, Stepfather could make 100 babies with her, not incest, her bio dad does even 1, that's incest.

but it late and none of this really matters. later.

It would be just as terrible if it was a step dad or any authority figure who preyed upon a young girl. The "incest" just grabs peoples' attention.

Wroooooooong!

Ignoring that humans don't really react to pheromones, anyhow, studies have shown that women are most attracted to the scent (i.e., the smell of their sweat) of men who closely resemble their father, from a genetic standpoint. I've not seen a similar study regarding men and their mothers, but I feel certain it would show similar data. We don't have Oedipus/Electra complexes just because psychologists are all perverts (they are, though).

This is, incidentally, one of the origins of the "inherently racist" soundbite that popped up in the media a couple years ago. We really do instinctively try to keep our genes tightly controlled.

Moreover, homo sapiens is one of the most genetically un-diverse species on the planet. Contrary to what people believe with regards to webbed toes and the like, incestuous coupling only has a marginally better chance than regular coupling to result in defects.

There is an interesting thing, though, a conditioned response that has nothing to do with genetics or "pheromones" (seriously, humans don't use pheromones, it's marketing bunk to sell cologne). People we're exposed to when we're very young and with whom we regularly interact almost never become an object of lust. Israel had (or still has? not sure) a communal system of raising children back in the mid-20th century and studies have shown that boys and girls who spent their early years there, say ages 2-6 or so, never marry. They may remain lifelong friends, but it stops pretty much there (I'm sure some of them had sex, but humans are apes -- we'll hump anything that moves given the right circumstances). This is, interestingly, the reason why Freud thought all boys have an Oedipus complex: he was raised by a nurse and rarely saw his mother when he was young, so he never learned the instinctual revulsion most kids have towards their parents.

That may be what happened in this case. Or this girl could be seriously screwed up, because Oedipus/Electra complexes do happen in people who were raised by their parents. I know that in my state, though, they'd be subject to criminal prosecution simply because their "relationship" began when she was under 18. And there's no way this could not be interpreted as abusive, both on the age count and the close relation incest count.

I remember asking my mom when I was little if people were exaggerating this point or if incest really made the chances of having kids in bad shape greater.
She just insisted on the fact that incest is bad without answering.

It's not that people don't know, they're merely trying to make kids understand that incest is "bad", and they believe that explaining how things really are is going to make kids be fine with incest and practice it, if only out of curiosity. They don't understand that kids/people can be genuinely curious, and that's it, without ever wanting to practice it.

Quote:

I've been trying to explain this to many people and it has always failed.

There is always this guy that says "eww, I won't *** a fat girl, what the ***" or that girl saying "BUT HE'S MY FRIEND" and so on. I don't know if people are trying to save face or if they truly do not feel that way.

No, actually, most people don't know. Cultural myths and all that. It certainly doesn't help that just a few centuries ago when personal mobility was virtually non-existent and you were stuck with a gene pool that hadn't mixed much further than 20 miles away, we ended up creating a lot of particularly inbred populations. Whenever a particular genetic error has an association with certain groups (watch old episodes of House MD, they loved that plot device), that's where incest taboos tend to be strongest. But in our highly mobile first world societies, the myth remains even though the reality is rather different.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if your mom (and everyone else's mom) has a certain amount of fear that if you aren't taught to hate the idea of incest, you'll wind up screwing your sister or cousin or something out back behind the wood shed. Not for nothing, either, since that does happen with a certain amount of frequency.

But, yeah, the whole issue of first cousin marriage is mostly a cultural one. At most, first cousins share 25% of their genome. But humans are so un-diverse that we could easily be wiped out by one really virulent disease because we all have mostly the same genome. The actual genetic differences between, say, an Australian aboriginal and someone with 2,000 years of Irish ancestors is frighteningly small.

It's both and it depends on the person, their age, and current circumstances. I've personally never slept with someone I didn't consider attractive and, indeed, have turned down a few offers from people who didn't interest me, but experience and lots of candid conversations with other people tell me that I may be an outlier in this respect.

I "usually" turn down attractive people but I have slept with people I didn't find attractive. That's why I can understand why someone would sleep with a girl that he was certain he would never sleep with.

Between "desperation" and simply wanting to bust a nut, I find there are more reason to sleep with someone than not.

If we're just talking about sleeping with people we're strictly not attracted to, I mean. Purely physical, though, personality is a deal breaker for me.
