People exploited the hell of this game over the years selling all kind of items to NPCs. Some even managed to dupe gil that led to a mass banning in 2006.

Try to find all the items that had their gil value nerfed from SE over these 11 years and you will know how so much gil was inserted into the economy.

I remember once some gardening item that used to sell to npc for some decent money and one girl in my ls saying she had 16 characters in that account just for gardening. She was afraid of getting banned due to RMT activity since RMT was doing that as well.

Also if you were a female in real life and could prove it the gil will come rolling right in.

Same idea with a few hundred million gil once a year for mog bonanza.

Net effect of Mog Bonanzas are actually a removal of gil from the economy overall, considering that it's unlikely that everyone who wins Rank 1, 2, or 3 chooses gil as their prize.

Even if they did, the net effect would be no change to the cumulative gil in circulation.

as mentioned earlier, the total net may be lower, but it could increase on a given server. either way it's pennies in a dollar game.

Perhaps if there had only been one Mog Bonanza, but due to the law of averages it's extremely unlikely that any one server has had an unbalanced increase in gil due to Mog Bonanzas. Of course, you are correct, either way it's a drop in the ocean so far as the overall economy is concerned.

The thing is, you could very well be "open" if you wanted to. Meanwhile, my penis prevents me from being "open".

I think I made 800k once from posing as a girl. I can't remember what I bought with that though.

With enough forethought and planning, I jumped from 100 million Gil to 800 million Gil in about 3 months, doing literally nothing for those 3 months. I'm sure many others were able to do the same strategy I did and made a LOT of Gil that way. Of course, I quit shortly after because I had all the Gil I could ever need so I got bored, lol.

What I gather from this thread is that if the Federal Government wants to continue to let banks create money out of thin air, it needs to sell as many as 20 lottery tickets each to people and allow the winners to choose a unique, non-transferable prize that makes them happy but has no economic effect in and of itself.

I farmed demon weapons in Castle Zvahl forever to finance my Morrigans Robe back in the day. They NPC'd for between 3-5k per and dropped pretty regularly with THF... Before they were nerfed due to RMT.

I did the Quadav helm quest over 7000 times back in 2004. Basically, at 900 gil a pop, I farmed up roughly 7,000,000 total on that alone... (WHM/THF... Old Quadavs in Beadeaux dropped the helm like candy...)

Also did a bunch of Garnet Quadavs for Mauls and Reraise... sold very well to NPCs... something else too, but I forget what...

Holy Phial NM and Slimes (Dodge Earring!) also sold very well on AH, but that's besides the point.

Aside from the other popular methods mentioned (Padded Caps, NPCing gear in Tavnazia, Blinkers, etc), I made tons of gil farming Bird Blood off of bats in Zi'Tah... I think they NPC'd for like 800 gil each, stacked, and each bat dropped two almost guaranteed. And the bats were everywhere. Made a few million doing that.

Another thing to consider, when Kraken Club got moved to BCNM... each attempt drops 3x Oxblood, which NPC for something like 12,000 gil each...

As mentioned many times above, selling stuff to npc's in the past was a great way to create gil.
Before an update a few months ago, you could buy (perle/aurore/teal) gear in Abyssea using curor, and sell to any npc for about 7k a piece. It was a quick way to make money.

Well, I wouldn't say banks, but yeah, the Reserve IS a bank...

Anyway, +1

Fish bots, chocobo blinkers, all that crap you get from voidwatch. A shrinking player base where the people who leave give their friends the gil...

A pot of gil that appears everytime someone unlocks summoner in La Theine Plateau. Complete with leprechaun Notorious Monster.

edit::
oh! almost forgot... dark rings from Konchstat (A) and dominion ops points!
