how those 36 SMN Odin II burns going, Liltrouble?
Can't you PVP on the test Server and save the 20$ or so server transferring?

I'd do it for the fun of it sometimes. But i see your point good sir, I don't think i could pay 20$ and be stuck on a server for a month to Challenge someone at Ballista. But I hope someone records it. Only thing about the test server is the ability to have any gear any weapon. While it levels out the playing field it doesn't really show your true worth.

I guess this is more so a post asking about strategy and putting fourth my advice from my perspective to anyone who's serious about challenging him, because I'm sure 99% of what he fights are people who give no thought into his tactics, which is probably why he's seeking this out.
WAR/SCH, using rare/ex gear I already own. Would put max merits into marksmanship and Aggressive Aim. Priority here is DT>HP>PDT. Would bring Bloody/Acid/Sleep bolts. As for tactics, #1 priority is keeping Sublimation on, if you fail at this, he'll just sleep/drain you to death. I'd put barstone on in hopes of limiting petri, which would allow him to Absorb-Stats, Aspir, and fully buff himself, which will probably happen regardless, but iirc debuffs tend to resist more and more after a certain amount of time/casts. Now that the enfeeble path is almost pointless for him to pursue(aside from buffing himself at the start), I'd guess he'd also rely on xbow/bolts or melee. If we're talking melee, his biggest advantage is Last Resort, because of desperate blows. But WAR can counter this with Retaliation, but the key for the WAR's success would be keeping him in front so Retaliation can proc. If he doesn't use LR, then i'd focus on bolts, keeping acids on, trying to sleep interrupt anything he tries to cast, and bloody bolts if hp gets low. Which brings us to cures, he'll be able to cure4 himself if you let him, so using provoke to prevent this is also key and requires good timing. I picked Ukon over Brav because Ukko's gains a lot of power from Blood Rage and Warrior's Charge, and Brav's Aftermath is pretty short @100% tp. tl;dr: Sublimation is key, intelligent bolt spam, Retaliation is your best friend if he melees you, Provoke cures/longer spells, pray Ukko's crits. I can't promise this method would beat him consistently or at all, as he has years and years of experience, while most, including myself, haven't participated in years. I do feel, however, it would give him a run for his money. Anyways, that's just my point of view. Can't really back any of it up, because, as I mentioned, I haven't done Ballista in years. If I got anything fundamentally wrong, or missed an important tactic, I'm open for criticism. Phoenix.Shiomi said: » Only thing about the test server is the ability to have any gear any weapon. That leaves out a good chunk of pretty respectable gear. Though you could get Relic/Emps/Mythics. Phoenix.Shiomi said: » Only thing about the test server is the ability to have any gear any weapon. It's not going to help you get most things that aren't on storage slips or the trial moogles. Augmented items, stuff like Hearty Earring and Dring, and even a fair bit of r/e would not be significantly more obtainable via test server, especially when you consider that they reset the server every so often and thus any progress made would be reset. What a wonderfully unusual display of intelligence; I want to +1 this post over and over and over. However assuming that I am not expecting people who have not put thought into my strategies is false. I'm not suicidal. I'd use bravura, Metatron is a relic WS and gets +40% damage which bypasses DT. It is why I favor relic weapons. Phoenix.Urteil said: » I'd use bravura, Metatron is a relic WS and gets +40% damage which bypasses DT. Fenrir.Nightfyre said: » Phoenix.Urteil said: » I'd use bravura, Metatron is a relic WS and gets +40% damage which bypasses DT. Beacuse of the % boost I find that it has the effect of telling -dt% gear to "go home". The WS acts as if you had 40% less DT and doesn't have to deal with it, I've never hit anyone as hard with an entropy or resolution than I have with a Catastrophe or even a Scourge. Sans souleater. Feel free to test it out and if you can throw the above out the window I'd like to see it tested, it would help me improve. That's because both Entropy and Resolution lose a lot when you can't stack mods or use Gorget and Ele. Belt, unlike Catastrophe and Scourge, which have awful mods you rarely stack even outside of PvP.
Well the damage limit for a single attack seems to be 999 damage, with double attacks during WS, criticals during multi hits, ODD, or things like the BLM set procing surpassing it.
I think the +40% damage has quite a bit to do with it. But I don't know, have had much greater success with relic WS - and I'm sure what you are saying is correct in that regard. Nope. I think the just changed the ws mods/attack and cap limits in ballista. Quite often i break 1k with Quietus w.o double attacking. Granted you get the ignore defense tp mod. I've seen 1k sonic thrusts also. But from what i gather your opponents defense has more to do with your damage than your own attack.
Also the merit ws don't seem to fall under the same rules as the older ones. Easiest way to test would be a magic WS (Leaden Salute, Trueflight, Vidohunir, Omniscience) and an enemy who can cast Shell. It seems unlikely that Urteil is correct, but not entirely implausible if the devs made relic/mythic WSD a direct DT mod instead of dealing with their spaghetti code. Would be quite surprising, but it's possible.
Potentially worth stating the obvious: Ballista mechanics are screwy as ***. Also i'm curious Urteil, what are your rules of engagement?

Would be quite surprising, but it's possible. Potentially worth stating the obvious: Ballista mechanics are screwy as ***. They do follow normal mechanics there is very little that is different, let us be careful to not perpetuate the rumor that the mechanics are that far removed. All stats do the same thing they do anywhere else, much less is different and much more is consistent. It could just be the reliance on the Mods for the meritable WS and the fact that I am never in that gear? The fact that they get that +% boost would just be amplified because you don't wear normal WS gear. The biggest confirmed differences are the diminishing returns that exist on Enfeebling magic, the fact that Dread Spikes is s severely nerfed, WS damage is reduced. Insurgency via the Liberator is much more powerful than other WS in there, right below Catastrophe. Let us just assume I am wrong, but its hard to blame me when I never run around in WS gear, I don't want to get stepped on. Hahaha. Prebuffing/JA rulings? Set engagement distance?
Also its not so much battle mechanics that are different as it is the multi hit ws nerfage. Before, breaking 1k was something to brag about and 2k was unheard of. But now tho... |
