Remember that they have no subs, not in a comfortable location for playing and that they're doing content that they've never done. The group doing the Lilisette battle did pretty well I think. When she split they panicked though.

Yeah, if they had prepped and the THF had grabbed and tried to tank the second one (or even the MNK) I think they would have been fine.

They just made my day by reading my comment. lol.
Also remember they're not their characters, and it's not their gear, and the job they're playing might not be one they're any good at. Also no macros, filters, anything. They were given less than 10 minutes to set everything up. If you had to play new content under similar cases, consider how well you might do.
