Also if you're such a capitalist, you should realize it doesn't matter what economic conditions your kids grow up in, or what their circumstances are, or what school they can afford to go to, it's their own decisions and hard work that will make them successful, 100% of the time. False.

False. I'll get back to you later with a book you should read. I can't quite remember the title off the top of my head.

The biggest factor is parents & home life, not the schools. The biggest problem in American education is that too many parents feel that its completely on the schools to educate their kids and that they have no role in the matter.
From a very early age my parents worked hard to teach me to want to learn and to want to know. That early influence + their willingness as I grew to indulgence me the things I found interesting (space, dinos, etx etc) by taking me to museums / buying me books and so forth is the foundation of my education.
Not w/e school I happened to attend. Really the only important skills I learned in K-12 were social ones, not knowledge based ones.

Yerp. That and i always had school. I never had summer breaks, well i did... but i still had to do daily school work to make sure i didn't forget what i learned, and so i got an early lead on next years material. Granted i was never good with grammar... or spelling =/
And personally I Think they should get rid of "Summer off". Idk it just always seemed like a huge gap to have off. Maybe shorten it to a few weeks to a month max..

I love summer break. I personally dont think year round school would make any difference here, at least until they can figure out how to make the time kids are there already worth a damn.

I kind of sort of agree with you. I had some really awesome teachers! I think I absorbed a lot in HS, socially and educationally.

I almost feel bad for these people.....not!
Quote: "People who don't have money don't understand the stress," said Alan Dlugash, a partner at accounting firm Marks Paneth & Shron LLP in New York who specializes in financial planning for the wealthy. "Could you imagine what it's like to say I got three kids in private school, I have to think about pulling them out? How do you do that?"
I wonder how he does it? The horror of pulling his kids out of private school of the humanity.
