gas prices are the prices they are because people still use oil for heat, and because of opec, two ridiculous ideas...
they come up with a plan to wean ourselves off this ridiculous dependence on oil and then we can drill for more.
as to tanker vs drill site and environment: our coastal environment is a lot less threatened by a tanker than an oil rig.
Ty for helping me understand the mindset there. Always wanted to understand the logic of the EPA types. *** other environments, as long as ours is good were cool. Is this the consensus? opec controls our domestic production?
I'm far from a "epa type" and opec controls worldwide oil prices, regardless of "domestic production"...
No, i asked because you seemed to have a problem with Obama and Clinton.
Its an honest question, is there really a reason to get totally bent out of shape over it?
At least I didnt ask if you were a racist.
People are discussing the SUTU, then discussing other things. I don't feel bent out of shape, does my disapproval automatically imply being bent out of shape?
Odds are I won't like the 12 I do go through either. As far as the political affiliation question it is pretty common to discount any opinion that varies from your own, especially in regards to politics, by just assuming they are of the opposing faction.

Yeah, would fit. If I were a Democrat. Im neither.
For the final SIX of the eight years Clinton was President, Republicans had the majority in both the House & Senate. Best Democrat since JFK because he didn't Veto Republican policy?

there's more to a president than the bills they sign...also party has nothing to do with it, imo.

Would be nice for them to field random questions that push them beyond the ability to be prepared for each question.
I was thinking about this last night. On one hand, using unseen questions is going to get a more truthful response. However, seeing the questions beforehand is likely to get a more useful one.
For example, at work, it's common for me to have to answer an engineering-technical type question with "I don't know, but I will go research at find out". I have to do that because someone asked something about which I didn't have the data. If I knew the question beforehand, I could have done some research and given a more useful answer.
In the case of the top questions currently posted (Boy I hope they're asked ...), I could make an argument that giving them ahead of time would allow the prez to decide what course of action to take. I know that's kind of naive, but oh well, I'm an eternal optimist.
In case you guys weren't aware or not following this, today is the day where Obama answers the top 5 questions. I'm not sure of the time atm.
But here are the top five questions, most them turned out to be about marijuana, and not ACTA.
Quote:
Why are you personally supporting the extradition UK Citizen Richard O'Dwyer for solely linking to copyright infringing works using an Extradition Treaty designed to combat terrorism and to bring terrorists to Judgement in the USA?
Quote:
As a retired LAPD deputy police chief with 20 years experience, I saw the failure of our country’s drug policies. Polls say more Americans now support legalizing marijuana than support prohibition. What do you say to this growing voter constituency?
Quote:
Dear Obama, Youtube deleted NORML's question that was asked to you. So I'm going to repost it. Please respond."Pres. Obama, what is inappropriate about saving billions and not arresting nonviolent american citizens for marijuana? #WHChat @WhiteHouse"
Quote:
Mr. President, on average a state will spend more money on a prison inmate than it does on a college student. Why are convicts worth more than the people who are trying make a difference in this country?
Quote:
With over 850,000 Americans arrested in 2010, on marijuana charges alone, and tens of billions of tax dollars being spent locking up marijuana users, isn't it time to regulate and tax marijuana? Alcohol/Tobacco are 5,000x more dangerous. Wake up!

And in case you're wondering, at least 15 more of the top rated questions all have to do with marijuana.
President Barack Obama will participate in the first completely virtual interview from the White House tonight in an event held on Google+Hangout.
The interview is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on WhiteHouse.gov, YouTube.com/whitehouse and the White House Google+ page, according to a daily itinerary sent by the White House.
The president will discuss his State of the Union Address and answer questions voted on by more than 225,000 people via YouTube.
I hope they will consolidate the marijuana related questions and only allow one.
I disagree, it's a big issue that needs more attention than just one question.
No it's not. Big issue to you =/= big issue. The economy, unemployment, and foreign policy are far more important than letting a stoner not have to worry about jail to get high.
I don't normally post in the politics section, but I felt this would be a worthy topic to discuss about.

Here are the top 5:
Mr. President, what's being done to battle SOPA, PIPA, and the apparently recently exposed ACTA? Some of us are beginning to feel as if we'll be arrested or fined for every little thing involving any sort of media.

Mr. President. According to major Internet organizations, SOPA, PIPA, and now ACTA threaten the very foundations of a free and open Internet. What would you do to ensure that the Internet remains free and open under your continued presidency?

Why did you sign the National Defense Authorization Act (a law which opened the door for trial-free, indefinite detention of anyone, including US citizens, so long as the government calls them terrorists) when you said you were going to veto it?

Mr. President, it's all good and well that SOPA and PIPA are slowed down in Congress, but what are you doing about ACTA? This is an international agreement which could prove much more devastating.

After CEO Chris Dodd openly admitted on FOX News to the corruption of the MPAA attempting to buy laws like SOPA, PIPA, and others; how can middle class Americans know that our votes will be heard over these profiteers?
