The 3-5 years professional experience always gets me, and has since I graduated.
I've got the years of experience, it's just not focused enough. As a Marine, certain things were simply collateral duties.

I never thought about getting a SharePoint job, because it was simply something else I maintained. Now here I am working as a SharePoint Content Manager because a company recruiter noticed it in the midst of my resume. Apparently it's a decently growing field. Hoping I can get myself into the development side of things once I school myself up.
All my experience (actual jobs) has been in PC repair for businesses, mainly in the medical industry.

Even did testing on boards for awhile right out of college. It sucked where I worked cause the machines were from the 70s. I would spend hours just aligning all the test pins and ***.

One thing I can tell you is that it is very hard to make a living as a software engineer if it's something you choose because of money. It's truly something you have to enjoy so much that you do spend all your free time on it if you could.

Just wanted to get clear on this, I've always heard it was hard to get around as a software engineer, but as you told me about your smooth applications and VERY benificial job you got out of it, I was wondering why in your case it went so easy?

Or am I just confusing things up and did you not apply to a position within the field that's being discussed?

The answer is simply that it depends. I'm going to take a stab that Stanislav, as part of Guildworks, listed that as part of his CV.

Having someone who is able to take a concept from scratch and turn it into a widely used platform is rare and valuable, regardless of whatever their actual coding experience/skills/education level (not tossing stones at Stanislev about any of the above).

It isn't so much that you need dedicate your entire life outside of work to advancing yourself in a particular (although that can help).

What you do need to do is be able to learn new things, and determine how to apply and communicate your knowledge. This goes regardless of job, regardless of field, regardless of age. It is rather impressive how rare it is to actually find people who are capable of doing that successfully.

I've spent lots of time looking for one, if there is any real ones out there, they're far and few between. The closest you'll find is a place that will let you outsource their products, you make your own site, people order the products that are shipped from a single company and you get commission.

The problem with that is plenty of people are already doing that, plus it's kinda hard to compete with the prices on major sites, like Amazon, and you'll probably spend more in advertising than you will make in sales.

I don't post here often - but thought I could offer something specific to your posts, Attribute and Slipispsycho. The only places I've heard that offer genuine work from home jobs are in one of the fields with the highest turnover rates that I've ever seen. By this, I am referring to Call centers. A lot of the ones out there (at least the ones local to me in Utah) offer work-at-home positions, and require you have a dedicated phone line and internet connection. Some are out-bound sales, others are in-bound technical support. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there for you guys if thats something you want to check into. Also its worth noting, the pay is less than those positions that require you to travel to their building, due to the mere fact you don't have to do any commute. Personally, I havn't done a job like this. I have a hard enough of a time sitting at home as it is (I've been out of work for the last 9 months with a back injury and little income coming in), and its drove me nuts. Anyway, just thought I'd share this so you could maybe change the direction you are seeking for work at home jobs.

People of older generations constantly say how you can't make a living working as a programmer or any of that because there's not many jobs and too many people in the field.

Hey. I've worked as a programmer since I was 16. I was lucky enough to get an internship at a start-up communications company developing software similar to Rosetta Stone, but in a browser environment and aimed at schools and small businesses.

In two years I progressed in the company enough to be offered a $76,000 a year contract and would be the head developer of their mobile applications without a college degree and at 19 years old.

I turned down the offer to work instead for a SEO firm as a programmer where rather than having a set salary, I was given a direct percentage of the profit share. Which in the end, works out far better.

I have never had a problem finding a job as a programmer, however, it should be noted that freelancing is a totally different story. When people go to freelancers, they typically try to outsource jobs which means you're going to be bidding against people from India and Pakistan which is going to mean you working for a week+ on a job for some $250. But that's enough to get you started and being able to start putting some stuff in your portfolio and resume.

Just thought I'd add my two cents.

if only i had more knowledge Q.Q

im planning to go back to school for Computer science since music didnt work out, i've always been interested in programming, its so amazing the things you can do with lines of code.

I have ADD though, so it makes it extremely difficult for me to stick with something long enough to get a good foothold in something.

We're not looking for entry-level per say, but all "X-Y years experience" in these job openings can be waived with demonstrable equivalent.

For instance, if you don't have 5 years of experience in the games industry but do have a really kick-*** side project that shows you know what you're doing? To the same equivalent skill level? And that translates to what you would be doing here? You're fine.

Give me a reference book, some sample code, and a few days and I'll learn whatever language you need. No joke.

EDIT: You're also talking to someone who loves to program in ASM since high school.

People with ADD usually do very well with any job in front of a computer screen.
The light frequency or "refresh rate" (you could say) of any screen (TVs included) do the same to the brain as "uppers" do...that is why people with epilepsy can't play a video game for too long without increasing their chances of getting seizures, because they need "downers" to make their brains work "better" ... as opposed to people with ADD, who usually need "uppers" to make their brains work better...and is also why people with ADD can play a video game or watch TV for hours and hours and hours.

If you don't mind moving to San Diego, that isn't a problem.

We pay relocation, if you're good.
