The doesn't stop certain people from acting like they don't. And the resulting chain effect.

But it's at the bottom of the last page, ain't no one going to make the effort to back read so crisis averted.

Or maybe people can stop posting borderline political topics altogether so that it's never an issue, but whatever. I've got loads of satire that I could be posting, but discretion is the better part of valor.

Unofficially finished my fanfic. Pre editing it came in at 880k words. I expect it to remain there as I add and subtract content during the editing process.

Nice. So what's next at that point? I honestly don't even know what one typically does with a fanfic other than post it online somewhere.

It's going to take a bit to edit, I glossed over my second season and its a structural mess. One of my chapters is 42 pages, I have no idea what I was thinking. Eventually I will probably post it online somewhere.

This is not meant as a personal attack, merely a chance to comment on the general mood of most everyone (not just this site) these days to avoid anything political. Why is it such a big deal to have disagreements? Its the avoiding of topics that lets them boil over because they've never had a chance to breathe.

Again, just using your comment as a chance to raise the question in general, not attack your opinion. I just am so tired of being in a world where people can't disagree without hating each other.

The simple answer is there are no consequences. People's "uninhibited" selves are ***.

There can be no discourse because there's no non-bad actors. Because there's no reason not to be with no consequences.

Can't argue that point, I guess I just hope enough people out there want something different to where its still worth trying.

It's over simplification but every single issue in the world is from someone doing something and getting away with it.

We could make so much progress if like 90% of our entire population's sole purpose in life wasn't "*** that guy get mine".

This line of thought is moot because, "if we refuse to accept human nature, and start to change the core of what being human means" is a fantasy.

The same greed and corruption will always exist in religion, in communism, in capitalism, in socialism etc because it's all human based society.

The only thing you can do is to be aware of this standard and change your behavior individually to actively fight against our defaults for the betterment of your species; Countless pursue this and fail but those that succeed are the few exceptional people we read and write about long after they die that perpetually inspire continued betterment for all.

Again, just using your comment as a chance to raise the question in general, not attack your opinion. I just am so tired of being in a world where people can't disagree without hating each other.

A major reason why I just entirely avoid political discussions is probably how much evolved it became. Maybe some can think political discussions like an exchange of ideas, but surely the actual players in this enviroment think of it as an instance of war, not physical but ideological. If you look at most arguments and practices related to politics, regarding of side, you can definitively see that there is a method on it, there is a technique, there is a goal. There are people who basically impersonate all those methods in a single place, strategically placed in every corner of society, big media, sports analysis, sites, forum, social medias. Those professional militants (and now not just limited to political but any other "side" of discussions) are always there, reading every content published, evaluating if there is an oportunity to join a discussion, and when there is, he/she is ready to jump on it with all their arsenal of methods already commented above. And not just that, its interesting they are never alone, there are always many that jump together in order to endorse a side to make it feel like there is a group of people thinking like that.

So, why avoiding political discussions? Because I convinced myself there are many other people, from any side, that is ready to jump on it to generate the conflict. Maybe in a group of 500 online users you can have 490 people willing to have a proper exchange of information, but just those 10 that are the "militants", maybe evenly divided to each side, is ready to burn everything and anyone knows dont need much more than a few people to transform a discussion in an exchange of insults, lies, offenses.

To sum up, i think political, as many other sides like socials, economical discussions, became war zones with many militants camouflaged between "civilian" or simply people that dont want to partake any side, or just prefer have a neutral position. As I believe those militants are just waiting the "trigger" to start a fight, i honestly dont know how to react. Should I engage and defend my side? Should I engage and denounce them for their tactics? Should I just ignore it?

Without a proper answer, ive decided to just take the last option as, at least, living without triggering any fight can result in peace, at least.

A fake peace though, but i guess this is the best we can get at our current human evolution.

I thought it was funny, legit laughed because the unfortunate reality we find ourselves in.

But that reality isn't funny. It's embarrassing. I wish we could just go back to when we could simply laugh at dumbshit because we can all agree it is dumbshit. Doesn't feel like that'll ever happen again.

From Rooks's post on locking P&R:
Quote:
...
I have locked the P+R section. I do not know when, or if, I will unlock it.

I am genuinely, truly, disgusted at this. The idea behind keeping this section open was that there could be something resembling debate and discussion, in a civilized manner. The progression from "maybe we should tax people less/maybe we should tax people more" to "hey if they didn't want to be murdered they shouldn't have protested injustice" really shouldn't have taken me by surprise, but that's on me, I guess....

Rather than quote several people and likely cause a page jump, I'll hope those who replied to my question first are still checking in now and then in this general thread-

I get it. Definitely. Its just so frustrating to see such a huge and important aspect of our lives and our childrens' lives (what we leave them, what we teach them) has become a lost cause. Reminds me of eras where there was a "ruling class" and then "the rest of us"- and the concept of governance was completely alien to the vast majority of the population. That schism turned politics and ruling into something mystical that the average person wasn't capable of processing. And THAT is something I fear greatly...so just throwing our hands up in frustration due to such a small minority is something I just don't want to see happen.

Don't worry @Rooks and others, I'll behave within the confines- was just hoping for some general conversation on how to address this rather than being the kid with a box of matches in a forest.

How many people are even here or would that effectively reach anyways? I think people here are pretty "set in stone" type of mindset, myself included. Real change will never come from arguing on this game forum lmao. Go actually do the things, be the change.

I think the reason Rooks closed P&R is silly but I've always seen that section as a blight on this site. FFXIAH has always been at it's best with sandwichposting

I see it slightly different (though your observation 'real change will never happen on a gaming forum' is quite true).

I'm not seeking some massive shift in how a nation thinks or acts. I just wanna be able to talk border policy, climate change, and other issues because I enjoy conversation with purpose. I want a return to where in game I can talk gun control with an LS mate who might be on the complete opposite side of the issue as me, and we still are friendly and sociable after. I hope for a time when a person can openly state their political alignments without splitting families.

I get that we surround ourselves with those who share values with- certainly nothing wrong with that. But I also am quite aware that a) we have to live and function in a world that isn't 100% of our choosing, and b) how horrid it would be if people were able to live their entire lives in an echo chamber without any challenging ideas.

So my reason for bringing up how politics has become the modern world's "3rd rail" on a seemingly unrelated gaming forum isn't to seek major change. Just to hopefully make disagreement a little more "normal" and not immediately associate it with hatred. Hell, even just this discussion of the why's makes me hopeful.

the problem in RT is that people post satire for fun, and then some p&r psycho comes in thinking it's a challenge to a collegiate debate format throw down.

I would love to be able to have these kinds of conversations without the vitriol that often comes with it. Unfortunately, that just isn’t how it works nowadays. Intelligent, meaningful debate is the rare exception, while the kinds of interactions that you see on Twitter are becoming the rule.

Debating what is and what isn’t okay to post in here isn’t a worthwhile subject for us, though. Rooks set the rule, so any discussion without him present is pointless.
