Not like marrying and having children at that age was normal back then anyway. Pretty sure most people got married around 18-25, even nobility and royalty married around that age.

Actually, women back then were married off around 12, 13 or 14 years old to men twice their ages and started having kids as soon as they were married. If a women was still unmarried by 18 to 20 years old, they were considered an "Old Maid" or a "Spinster."

Quote:
In Yorkshire in the 14th and 15th centuries, the age range for most brides was between 18 and 22 years and the age of the grooms was similar; rural Yorkshire women tended to marry in their late teens to early twenties while their urban counterparts married in their early to middle twenties. In the 15th century, the average Italian bride was 18 and married a groom 10–12 years her senior. An unmarried Tuscan woman 21 years of age would be seen as past marriageable age, the benchmark for which was 19 years, and easily 97 percent of Florentine women were married by the age of 25 years while 21 years was the typical age of a contemporary English bride.

Then I need to brush up on my history. xD lol

Lots of things we've been taught about the past are wrong and it's interesting to read about how it really was back then

People weren't as dirty as they're always portrayed (well, depending on where they lived and at what time)

Vikings for example were very clean and would spend a lot of time on their hair (and beards for men), braiding and trimming so they'd look good. Dark hair was an attractive trait since there were a lot of blondes and it stood out (and they'd put stuff in their hair too).

One of my favorite historical innacuracies is that John Wilkes Booth broke his leg from jumping from Lincoln's balcony to the stage. He actually broke it when his horse fell on him.

They also didn't look like they do on Vikings, they didn't wear such dark clothing. Their clothes were blue, red, green, yellow etc

Especially not the leather stuff they wear on the show

No, just that Shakespeare knew what to write to get people into the story! I imagine that weddings of youths that young was something people would gossip about, even back then.

Why thank you for those history lessons Drac.

I need to do more research on it and read about those times, they fascinate me, but I guess I've been fascinated by wrong facts. Time to research!!

Booth then jumped from the President's box to the stage, where he raised his knife and shouted "Sic semper tyrannis" (Latin for "Thus always to tyrants," attributed to Brutus at Caesar's assassination and the Virginia state motto), while others said he added, "I have done it, the South is avenged!"[40][106][107] Various accounts state that Booth injured his leg when his spur snagged a decorative U.S. Treasury Guard flag while leaping to the stage.[108] Historian Michael W. Kauffman questioned this legend in his book, American Brutus: John Wilkes Booth and the Lincoln Conspiracies, writing in 2004 that eyewitness accounts of Booth's hurried stage exit made it unlikely that his leg was broken then. Kauffman contends that Booth was injured later that night during his flight to escape when his horse tripped and fell on him, calling Booth's claim to the contrary an exaggeration to portray his own actions as heroic.

:| Dunno, I always heard it as he landed awkward and limped off the stage.

The awkward thing is really if Booth didn't do what he did, the U.S. may not look the same. In some readings, the Civil War seemed to be riddled with he said/she said.

Starting with slavery, Lincoln's solution to freed slaves and the Civil Rights Act which was actually signed when Ulysses S. Grant was president.

I think that's what's funny about Booth, he was hell bent on being a Southerner, but if he would of just stayed out of history's way, we may have seen a more racist America...
Interesting note on the slave aspect. The emancipation proclamation really didn't do... anything for slaves. Slaves were already free in Northern states, and the south claimed to secede, so they weren't going to follow US law. What it did do, was prevent England, who favored the south for their cotton trade, from entering the war. England, I believe, was anti-slavery at this time and after the proclamation was passed, the civil war became seen as a war against slavery, so England couldn't help the south without losing face.
Kinda brilliant, but it's rarely told this way.

Neighbor got a new dog that has barked all night and kept me up. You know how you see murderers on TV and you wonder "How could they do such a thing?!" The answer is sleep deprivation.

Buy a dog whistle, get a cup of coffee, and wait for the noise complaints.

Tell them to put the thing in the garage or in the house at night.

Is it a beagle? I ***' hate beagles. Cricket on a blade of grass will get them going for hours, and they chew fences!
