So, I am going to be playing D&D with some people from work.
I have never REALLY played D&D but I know I will be a Cleric. I am thinking of playing him in such a way that he hears voices in his head that he randomly speaks to that he thinks are a god.
I was also thinking of naming him Patches and making him hate any other Clerics he meets.
I don't know how much of a backstory you need to make for characters. I also have no idea what I need to do as far as picking skills and whatnot.

Sounds like a fun character to me. I have limited experience playing D&D as I've never really had enough other people around to actually have a group, but in my experience with RPGs in general more backstory is always better than less. You can always leave some of it out if it's too much for the campaign or w/e, but it's better to at least have it ready, I'd think.

Yeah ours got delayed slightly at the beginning too.
Just had a ST run where we actually had to deal with pads, etc. DPS so low.
Weee since my character is already a little crazy, the DM said I can worship Akatosh (a god from Skyrim).

Don't go too much into backstory until you get your character to level 5. Because in D&D.. ***happens and the party can die -really- fast depending how closely he follows the book or how much of a *** your DM is at the time. If he's an easy going improv DM then the odds of surviving are much better.
If you want to watch some D&D Fun, Matt Mercer (awesome voice actor) hosts live D&D games on thursdays on twitch with a bunch of other voice actors, their group is called Critical Role.

There's some audio issue in the first 2 episodes but those get taken care of. each session is about 4 hours long.

like opening a campaign with a surprise attack on the party, after rolling initiative, the opening attack from the enemy, shoots an arrow on to our bard.
fail roll etc. the arrow ends up one shotting the bard with a crit.
DM had to deux-ex-machina him back post battle.

Is he the one in the one expansion? I've played a lot of Skyrim but not as much Oblivion. Both are fun games, but Skyrim is certainly much more fun to me.

My Oblivion experience is so limited. Most of it was spent running around killing things willy nilly. I thought it was an xpac.
I played the ***out of oblivion years ago when I *Yarrrr'd* the game, but I never did the main story. I always went off on ADVENTURES! I really should play through the whole thing.
