So yeah, I just spent the last 6 hours 'buliding a PC'..

I turned a pet carrier and 3 older (broken) PCs into a fully functional PC, running Windows 7, Dual Core (@ 2.13GHz), 3GB RAM, 500GB HDD, and running a GTX 260..

You might ask why I used a pet carrier, well the GTX 260 is HUUUUGE and it wouldn't fit in any of the three cases, so I was forced to improvise.

I built this especially so my wife can play FFXIV with me, there's just really no room in her PC for any decent hardware, so.. She needed a new one, and this is what I came up with.. It's just going to be a designated gaming machine I assume, I don't think she actually has plans to replace her current PC with this for everyday use.

Oh yeah, this post was made from the new PC, and my wife wants me to let everyone know it's name is Frankenputer.

Pics coming tomorrow, I just barely finished with everything right as she had to go to bed, so I can't take pics right now..

Also of note, this is my first 'build', I have never built a computer before today, I understood how, but had never actually done it, I'd just buy a desktop that suited my needs and upgrade where needed, this is my first 'from scratch' build.

Did you screw the motherboard onto the side of the carrier or is it sitting on the bottom?

Lol <.<

At the very bottom is the hard drives, above that sits the mother board, it's held in place by zip ties, the bottom of the carrier was quite a bit narrower than the mother board (was a lot simpler to have the gravity of the GPU hold it in place, rather than have to construct some sort of mounting system, so laying the mother board horizonantly seemed the logical way to go) so it had to be elevated. It's just ziptied at multiple points to the vent holes. The DVD drive is screwed to the top (with a hole in the top for the power and SATA lines) everything else is contained inside. The PSU sits at the back, and the vent fan is screwed to the top of the case.

I can't decide which I dislike more, the female authors who write rape scenes (do they not know how screwed up it is?) or the male authors who write them (do they not know how utterly creepy that makes them seem?)

As a writer, I guess I have to apologize.

I don't really write a story. I'm channeling these characters. They're using me to get their story out. I'm just a living pen.

When Lycea has a flash back to her being raped, I can't help it: I'm writing that rape because it happened to her, and she's suffering, but that was her story and I won't rewrite her story. Only if she wants to. Only if the bit of processing power my brain devotes to her creation says, "You know what, let's change me now."

I can't really explain it besides this simple statement: as a writer, I'm a vessel that the story travels across.

Or maybe I'm just disturbed.

Having a character HAVE to come out is one thing, and perfectly understandable. But four or five brand-new writers in the same class all writing rape scenes is creepy, unnecessary, and irritating. If the lot of us were serious writers, I might be more inclined to look at it as the character speaking. But for a beginning class full of people who are just taking it for the credits and likely won't become authors? Ugh. These guys are just weird.

Yeah I was gonna say, is there some large market for rape novellas that I'm unaware of? I'm glad I don't have to teach a class like that, I'm not sure I could put up with it.

Installing/updating FFXIV now, since this is it's primary purpose, I'm really hoping it will run.. I mean, we weren't going to be using the pet carrier, and the PCs were just up there for spare parts should something on our current ones break, so it's not like any money or anything is wasted if this doesn't work, but my time will be wasted =/ if it can't run FFXIV at minimum settings at least, then the entire thing is a waste of time (but again, not like I had much better to do, I just don't like failing.)

From what you described it sounds hardware wise you have plenty to run it, heat might be the only possibility of it failing. good luck either way

Thanks I may need it <.<

As for heat, I've done the best I can, everything is actually resting on the 'top' (it's flipped upside down) where the vents are, it has an open face and probably a good 50% of the bottom (technically the top) half is vented already.. There's a vent fan uptop blowing down, my hope is that the heat is blown out both sides on the bottom, if the venting works as intended, it will be one of the coolest running systems I've ever had.

And it's all done, now we find out if it works <.>

I did something like in college for our campus's direct connect hub.

I used a dual pentium pro motherboard and basically had the motherboard on a steel plate with a PSU and the drives stacked up next to it in a little cabinet.

We ran linux on it too.

And back to Liela.

It's also a matter of curiosity (and in some cases, possibly a suppressed rape fetish).

Sometimes you're just so darn curious that you have to write about the terrible stuff. Why are so many novels so dreary?

Because if we spoke of how wonderful life was, the work wouldn't be interesting or thought provoking at all. We need the struggle. We need to be tossed into the crapper.

It's human nature, I'd imagine.

Maybe this is why I very much prefer reading to writing, writing nonfiction to writing fiction, and writing poetry to writing nonfiction. I just don't have it in me to be that curious, I think. :-(

Eh. I always felt that nonfiction is just fiction with a really detailed plot already written set down for you. Writing is reading the story in your head and copying it down.

Poetry is a different beast all together. I can't even compare it to prose. It's like flounder fillet and clam chowder. Yeah, I guess, both fish dishes, but there's really nothing in common besides a simple classification.

I've taken up to advanced level of poetry and intermediate of nonfiction, but only up to beginner in fiction. It's hard, after awhile of poetry I want to use consonance and assonance in fiction, plan line breaks, caesura, end stops. It drives me crazy that caesuras don't even exist outside poetry, as far as my professors are concerned.

My favorite to write is snapshot poetry, which is unpopular around here. You write fiction mainly, Xueye? :D Cool!

I still can't picture you working in a hospital.. When you think of someone working in a hospital it's to administer care, sponge bathing the patients, making sure they get their medicine, helping them to the bathroom, etc..

I just picture you trying to get some 80 year old out of bed to get them to the bathroom and you ripping their arms out of socket..
