I'm definitely gonna be playing come release. It's a breath of fresh air, (despite what people who have never played the game and are basing their opinions off of what the UI looks like), and is fun overall. The company has been nothing but stellar so far, implementing hotfixes while the game is running, communicating with the community and going above and beyond any other MMO developer I've ever been interactive with. Rift's gonna turn out to be awesome, I've no doubt about it.

We should start a FFXIAH guild D:<
I've been impressed by Trion Worlds. They're doing it right. Makes me wish I had gotten the job with them I applied for so I could brag, lol.
Edit: For those that don't know, they also have a twitter. The servers had a problem last night and there was a status update about it before I could ask.
i enjoyed the few beta events that i played. wow/war/whatever clone or not, it still didn't feel that fresh to me. polished, yes. i liked the root/tree system a lot. i like how you can mix and match souls a lot. but it's not going to break me out of the current mmo hiatus i'm in. mostly b/c i just don't have the time... when i do, i hope 14 is fixed.
i have 2 friends who are way on board with rift, so if they stick with it, i'll probably play it. it really is a well made game.
*sigh* I'm never going to be paying for just 1 mmo, am I?
Not if I have anything to say about it.
Though to be fair, I tried to get you to try LOTRO.
Well atm I'm only paying for XI since XIV is still free. I have staved off my WoW addiction thus far. Aion is dead to me. Uri has been trying to get me to play LOTRO too, but I'm having too much fun in XI right now. I'm sure I'll try Rift, it looks nice and the WoW-esque UI... well addiction was a key word in aforementioned WoW statement.
The humor level is awesome too. The server outage that Krizz mentioned was handled very well as stated, and they weren't down for more than 30 mins. Once they were back up, Trion did TWO THINGS that made me lol, simply because it was coming from a professional entity and I'm not used to seeing such openness from that kind of source.
First, on Twitter:
"We accidentally the entire Internet"
And when the servers were back on, and people were starting to get back in, a server message:
"The recent outage was brought to you by the Internet, the number 3 and the letter Q. Sorry about that folks."
If they remain this open ended and responsive, then I think a nomination for best MMO developer ever is in order.
Edit: And seriously, don't let the look of the UI turn you off. The UI isn't the game. Yes, it borrows from other MMOs many of its systems, but it has its own systems in place too. I don't understand the mob mentality of everything has to be a WoW clone and a WoW killer. It's ignorant and daft; if we're going by that logic, then every MMO is a UO or EQ clone, and every video game ever stole PvP from Pong. Seriously, get over it, WoW wasn't the first MMO and it won't be the last. I'd also like to mention that the UI is 100% customizable out of the box, so if you don't like it, do something about it.
Yep just waiting on Rift to get out, tryed a few beta trials but now holding back and saving until i get the game. We are some old players who gather together in Rift we all come form FFXI, AION, WOW, WAR etc... so atm I belive we are 12-16 players in the same guild when the game starts. We are by all means no hardcore LS/guild, we want to have alot of fun and see what the Rift game has to offer. But the game itself looks great, looking forward to try it out a little bit more.
Our guild site you find here, and careful I have not yet made any improvments to this website due to lack of time and playing FFXI :P But as soon we start i will focus on making the site aswell, or atleast slightly better looks!
I want the collector's edition... but I want to do a digital download... but I want all the extras with the physical collector's... /sigh
Well Krizz, they prolly make and digital download later one I'd guess, but as far I know only way ist the collectors box to get your hands on. And yeah the extra items ingame is a nice ting :)
# Ancient Tartagon Mount: Available at level 20, this turtle mount increases player speed by 60%
# Collector's Satchel: Increases the size of your primary backpack to 24 slots
# Bogling Wastrel: This unique pet sets you apart from the other Ascended
# 8GB RIFT USB Drive
# RIFT Soundtrack
# SteelSeries Gaming Mouse Pad
# 128-page Hardcover Comic
I want the physical bonuses more than the in-game ones. Well, aside from getting to play on the 24th instead of the 1st.
Don't quote me on this, but if you buy the physical version I think you might be able to directly download the client whenever you want via your Trion Accounts page, (come release of course), after you apply your key or get it flagged for CE status.
Only weird part about it if you opt for a physical copy, you have to send a picture or scan of your proof of purchase to Trion to have your account flagged for CE features because of the nature of game releases, and the fact that retailers aren't going to release it for the Head Start period, but for March 1st. Minor hurdle, and it's pretty impressive that Trion's willing to do the extra paperwork to make it work.
Let me start off by saying that I love FFXI and I used to love WoW back in the day. The only MMO to hold me since release has been FFXI, though.
That being said, I have also played Rift in the beta. So to get it out of the way right off the bat, YES rift is basically a WoW clone. HOWEVER, there are some differences. Most notably, the class system. This is something that seems to be very interesting... you choose an archetype, and can choose between any of the classes within that archetype. Look it up if you want more info, while it doesn't give as much freedom as FFXI's job system (which is the best to date of any MMO), it does come close.
Basically, Rift is WoW for those burnt out on WoW. It has great graphics, a new class system, and a lot of polish.
All of that aside, I'm curious as to who else here is at least interested in it. I've already pre-ordered it off Steam, has anyone else?
