MNK Tanking Gear

I'm working on getting some gear for my MNK so i can be a good tank but not realy sure what to use, IE: do i use O hat for evasion or do i stick with afv3 +1 for haste. Was wondering if ppl could help me out by showing me what you use to tank in.

Tank in DD gear, carry oshit for when stunned, petrified, etc.

^ what he said, I use PDT- when terrored, stunned, petrified or when about to eat heavy damage TP moves. MDT- is more important IMO, specially for NMs like Rani.

MDT- you only need around -23% to -26% MDT with Shell V depending on your WHM Shellra V merits

Brew Rani and get it over with! Basically go during blunt time. 50tp/tic can proc 14/15 of the blunt ws on mnk. proc blue, spam smite, profit

how long it take you to farm a decent pair of dark rings btw?

I farmed mine over the course of a weekend and got one -5 and one -6 on PDT.

It's goes a lot faster if you're alone. Nothing like losing a random to some guy that won't even use it.

Was just an example, already got the ring from Rani. -50% magic damage reduction is nice. I dbox MNK and WHM a lot Shellra V makes huge difference. The extra 25%~ could prevent wipe. I beat Ogopogo(T3 VNM URange) twice dboxing, I don't think I could have done it with out the -MDT gear.


3-4 runs around 3-5 hours per runs for the -PDT rings. Was also helping my wife with magian trials.

Probably use a pt to build my lights then break off and solo

I have been tryn to stack haste + low delay weapons in hopes to interrupt most spells

MNK can cap MDT without giving up any haste (Oblit's build, except with Black Belt and Colossus's Mantle), no excuse not to have at least 14% MDT ready to swap in at any time. Just use your normal weapons, the change in delay isn't really going to affect interrupt rate.

No other way to do it. Only concession I'd make may be swapping out Toreador's for a Heed ring, Subtle Blow can be very useful in some fights.

Tantra crown+2, black belt, rajas, asupice = subtle blow cap

I usually duo NMs with my RDM friend, no Auspice.

But yeah, if doing with a WHM it's a useless swap.

Is subtle blow due to agi limited by that cap?

I got blue on mule, then red, brewed and went to town on it.

I don't know about your setup, or "the new standard," but I can tell you that that in my experience, when I can afford to give up Sanguine Scythe - or if you have all three Lunar Abyssites - Atma of the Mounted Champion is pretty rad. I mean, the regen is sexy, vit is nice not only for taking damage, but also for rocking those ~800 chakras when ***hits the fan.

Just a thought.

But gearwise, at least in my ls, I don't do anything special usually at all. (Of course that's with an ls worth of support, of course duoing would be trickier.) I do like to have lots of weapons to choose from - the STR/Att, got the AGI/Eva, the VIT/-pdt and finishing up the DEX set. (Empyrean coming soon - starting VNMs finally.) The bas stats are all comparable on the elemental weapons, and the give some cool bonuses that might be useful for you.

But again - def an amateur here.

After getting ninja'd for denali hands about a year ago I said *** it and moved on. Went today, got a group in less than 10 mins, went 1/1 on them today.

What is everyone's thoughts on gear changes for utsusemi casts? If you use a set for this could you post it?

I personally switch from Forager's/Usukane to Tantra+1 head/legs + Ultion Mantle. Keeps me at 25% Haste, and chances are if I'm casting Ni, I don't need the evasion, and if I'm casting Ichi, I have Perfect Counter up.

I use a evasion-set for Ichi actually <_> 25% haste + as much evasion as I can put into the other slots :P But then again I only tank weaker stuff that I can dualbox, so evasion stuff works really nice on them :P
On harder stuff its better to just go for full counter stuff I guess?

they always have.. people just had their own preferences as to what they preferred as tanks..

im a crap mnk and i can still tank nm's with a decent mage.

On the DD/tank jobs I have leveled, I actually prefer doing it on Monk :P
And I have PLD SAM and DRK leveled that can tank aswell <_>
