Whitegate as home nation means that new players can choose it too, but with low lvl in whitegate, hmm idk ;)

I'm curious as to what benefits would be available if it has a home nation.

The only real benefit of a home nation nowadays is outpost warps, which the Far East already has an equivalent of.
