Health Care Reform Passes
ty blind ^^ i suck at explaining.
we already have competition between companies to some extent but even in the auto industry it is not a huge factor; i recently got quotes from all major insurers and they were almost identical.

Or it's because you actually have competition amongst the car insurers thus driving down costs. "It's the law to have insurance therefore the price will be lower", how in any way, shape, or form does this make a lick of sense? I didn't think it was that hard of a concept. We are all aware of how insurance works. Again, why would the insurance company lower premiums when they don't have to? You think they actually care about you and your financial situation? You think they are just going to lower premiums b/c its good for everyone? Ragnarok.Harpunnik said: In light of your last post Skiutah, I say no to it being defensive. If we can't agree upon something as simple as what constitutes a defensive measure against harm, then I don't expect we'll be able to share any ground with regards to something as complex as domestic policy. I'll leave with my opinion exposed, feeling that -- for example -- a water treatment plant takes measures ensuring that a community's water supply is without hazard and drinkable. It is this action that prevents harm, or rather attempts to prevent harm, from reaching the United States citizens it serves. I feel that your hesitant answer may have been curved with an example that could easily emulate the military providing a defensive service, yet remain something outside of the military itself. You fail to see how this works. Tell me this, take away all but one of those insurers. You think those quotes are going to stay the same? Or are they going to gouge you for every penny they can since you are forced to pay for it, no matter the cost. It's competition that forces them to keep the premiums at an affordable level. not only that, but we can now cross state lines to purchase insurance, so all these companies will be competing to enlarge their pool. i am not stuck with insurers that operate only in WA state anymore i can go anywhere it is cheapest.
@my previous post, yes that should reduce costs

You are right that there needs to be competition, but the insurance companies need the large pools to be able to compete better. curious harpunnik do you know the major points or have read any of this bill? or are you siding strictly on political/party lines here?
Yes I haven't heard anything in this bill to address fraud in existing government healthcare programs. Yes I don't see how this keeps taxes down for everyone. Yes I don't see why only student loans are to be done via the fed, even though that has nothing to do with healthcare. Yes I don't see what this does to protect doctors from getting taken through the wringer in the courts if they make a small mistake. Yes, I don't see what the big incentive for an employer to provide healthcare plans to their employees. Yes, I don't see how this will not put the private sector in business. Yes, I don't see how doctors can stay in business if they are getting gipped by the government on payment. Again, drop the party *** man. And Blind you put too much faith in that piece of paper. I have no formal sales background whatsoever and excel at my job. In fact I even sent them the wrong resume but I sounded like such a wildcard they had to interview me and I smoked the interview. Paper means nothing. Still not convinced...see who sells more books and has better ratings. Entertainer, wrong, alcoholic, think he cares when he checks his bank account? you know whats funny, even after this takes effect i still doubt i will be able to afford insurance lol
Midgardsormr.Frobeus said: Why lower prices when everyone has to insure with you by law, when you can just keep the prices just as high and make that much more? Good thing they also placed a requirement in the bill that insurance companies have to spend 80-85 cents per dollar they receive on actual health care. Seraph.Bigheadkitty

I've had policies with very small pools and have had policies with very large pools. And the size of the pool definitely contributes to what yuo get for yuor money.
In the small I paid 200 or so a month plus 600 or so form my employer and the coverages where very minimal. In the large my employer paid the total of approx 800-900 dollars. Let em tell you the coverage, for basically the same cost, in the large group was 100x better than whet I recieved in the small. I do think that the cost should go down and the coverage be better with more people to spread that risk around. On the other hand depending on how exactly preexisting stuff is handled that may offset any gains from the increased pools. One problem was some insurance companies were hoarding all the healthy people. What this does is it makes insurance premiums very very cheap, because you have a lot of people paying into a pool and very few taking money out of that pool.
The unlucky unhealthy people got stuck with no insurance (in which case we all ate their hospital bills), or got stuck with medicare/medicaid (in which case we all ate their hospital bills). One thing this bill is doing is removing the ability of health insurance companies to hoard healthy people. Which will allow better competition between health insurance companies. The other thing it is doing is increasing the amount of people in the pool by mandating that everyone buy health insurance. This increases the pool even more. its not like you actually HAVE to buy health insurance either, i know plenty of people who do not have car insurance, they just pay the ticket if they get pulled over :X

>.< YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS!!!!! Bull crap. You don't need to buy car insurance, just don't get a car. You don't have to buy home insurance, just rent a room or live in a cave. This you cannot avoid. Thats bunk, I don't see how you can be ok with this. Having not read any of the thread, and only seen the most nujob of commentators on TV...

Here's your change. Thanks for shopping at Obama-mart. Yeah...because I love paying fines for just sitting in my cave. Maybe I can move to one of the states that is suing...
the states that are suing are doing so because they will no longer be making a shitload off medicare lol

An entertainer is not equal to a technical degree like a rocket scientist or doctor. You are just being a gigiantic idiot now.
Rachel Maddow's degrees were in public policy and politics.
Glenn Beck's were ... oh wait ... |
