Please remember the official site policy regarding what images are appropriate and which are not:
I'm going to be brutally honest here, and explain the situation from my point of view. Hopefully you guys'll understand where I'm coming from.
Basically, I'm stuck between two extremes. Personally, I'm an almost impossibly laid-back guy who is about as "anti-prude" as it gets regarding sex and related topics. It's pretty damn hard to phase me.
However, I'm in charge of running a site with hundreds of thousands of users, many of whom disagree with me. And for whom I have to maintain a welcoming, comfortable environment. If I come down too hard either way -- too permissive, or too restrictive -- we lose users. That means part of my job is to min/max the system, almost like a game itself, to keep as many people happy as possible.
This is extremely difficult to do. And the feedback mechanism is such that generally, I don't find out that I've screwed up, and people are uncomfortable, until a
lot of people are uncomfortable. I know that for every PM complaint I get about an image, easily a thousand other people had the same complaint but couldn't be bothered to hit the PM button and type it.
That means if I get a buncha PM complaints, I need to pounce on it hardcore, in an effort to shove the policy back the other way before it snowballs out of control. And you do
not want to be the guy I have to make an example of in order to accomplish this.
It's sorta like how, on a crowded highway, whether or not you're actually breaking the speed limit is secondary to whether or not you're going faster than the cars around you. If everyone's traveling 80mph -- including the cop -- you're probably fine. But if everyone's going 80mph and you're going 95? Guess who's getting the ticket, even though everyone was technically in the wrong? You're right: it isn't fair, but it is what it is.
