FFXIV Going To Kill FFXI?! ; ;

Ok, I know I'm like a lot of active FFXI players and have been playing for years on top of years with friends and family all over the world... and thats because, despite all its ups and downs this is a great game... So why is square enix KILLING IT, by making FFXIV online?? Almost everyone I know is going to play, or is quiting FFXI to just play FFXIV!! at least give us more updates!(and season events needs more) I have a sneaky suspusion that enix is going to drive this ffxiv hard when it gets into open beta and finally its release date later this year, and leave us in the dust... I mean FFXI already has A LOT of missions and quests, with A LOT of content and items, but whats the point if square is going to make a new FF and leave us with what we got. And whose to say in 5 or 8 years after FFXIV they make another MMO that just says to customers "yea we thank you for playing so much, and paying us so much a month to play, but we dont care and want to make a newer mmo to advertise and hype up for us to make more money"

I really hope they let you carry over some character items or achievements in some way to XIV although I' m not holding my breath.

I doubt they will just stop supporting XI unless doing so would cause them to lose revenue. Which shouldn't be the case less players just means they can merge servers and shut some down to lower upkeep costs, content updates will probably slow down but I don't see them stopping.

All other big MMOs in the past from other companies received support long after they made a sequel. Of course talking about other companies =/= talking about what SE will do, but I doubt they'd reinvent the wheel.

Squenix has stated they won't kill off FFXI as long as people are playing it. So there's no need to worry about FFXIV "killing" FFXI. Also, I believe the only transferable things from FFXI to FFXIV are going to be character names and linkshells. If we were able to transfer items and whatnot over to FFXIV, it would have to be nearly the same game, and it's not by a long shot.

I tell myself that everything's gonna be a-ok after looking at Everquest 1 + 2.

Ffxi only has to make it for 2 more years to last until the end of the world.

Yeah, looking at other games that have been made obsolite by their own companies is never good...

I guess we just have to enjoy it while it lasts and theres a strong community... for 2 more years...

FFXI will stay around as long as people pump money into playing it. Once that becomes counter-profitable for SE they'll /shutdown and focus on XIV.

The only thing you have to worry about for the time being is a slowdown/halt of new content. But it already takes SE ages to get anything done, so don't hold your breath.

My thoughts? FFXIV won't break FFXI. There are still going to be slow updates where nothing much gets added and people get bored in the interval. FFXIV is also just not going to appeal to some. Others will hang on to FFXI once they realize they finally have a shot at HNM and items such as V Belt that they thought were out of reach because of rampant botting and backstabbing. If SE is smart, they will provide updates that make the hangers-on feel priveledged for staying (i.e. special event items or something)..."Thank You for Staying In Vana'diel" maybe?

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. I suspect many will find this old cliche to be true.

Play both. Quit your day job. Get money from the government!

on topic. i don't think it will right away, but as the player base shrinks from people shifting over time it will. so, imo, not immediately but yes it will.

half the ppl saying they are going to ffiv wont. half the ppl that actually do try to stick with it wont.
from what little they have unveiled so far, it looks exactly like lv 50 ffxi when IT first came out, w/better graphics<.<. unless they plan to put the evolution of it into overdrive.. like 6 years into 6 months... i really do not see the already small population trying it out, sticking around all to long. personally think its gonna fail pretty bad, and maybe even get closed down before 11 <.> just my prediction

I highly doubt, as many other people feel too, that 11 won't fall off the face of the earth once 14 comes out. None of us know how 14 will be from the get go; everything is up in speculations right now so there's know way of knowing the turn out. Even if it does turn out well, some people will either end up juggling between the two or sticking with one or the other.
I've seen it done many times; with people juggling between ffxi, WoW and various other MMOs. You'd be surprised that some people STILL play Everquest!

Personally I'll give 14 a try but I won't jump on the bandwagon since I'm still enjoying 11 and want to accomplish more.

I dont think 14 will kill it but i think se will, with server populations dropping everyday idk how much we can do. I've seen 1200-800 drop just in the last few months and no intention of se merging servers.

I think se is doing this on purpose so ppl will quit and go to 14 so they dont have to split profits between both games.
