The jp are all good in my books. After months upon months of shouting for a nyzul isle party for floors 91-95 i see a jp shout. Went something along the lines of:

Scribble scrbble scribble scribble scribble scribble 91 scribble

I randomly joined and got the clear at long last. So /cheer for the jp. Obviously if rather than invite me i got 'jp onry' then id be ranting in this thread right now.

Anyway on a more serious note to your question I doubt all jp are anti-us, but some just like to keep themselves to themselves to avoid the language barrier. And if its that then fair enough, it can be a pain for anything more involved than simple xp'ing. Wish the damn rmt would give up on the language barrier tho and stop spamming me with damn /tells.

I've actually had jp players tell me not to use autotranslate. Despite the fact that there english was kinda broken and I don't know any japanese. Or maybe it was because of that and they were practicing idk.
Kinda funny. Had almost the same situation as this.
Except that I found out he's not Japanese, but Chinese(?) using a JP Client (basically rendering the auto-translate completely useless lol).
He's a nice fellow though, only problem I'd say is his Engrish~

Then again, that's the problem with people of different languages. It's hard to get the message through.
It's hard already getting the right message through between two English speaking people, how much more with a Non-English speaking person?
(or vice versa)

Since when did being American make you a bad player or inherintly rude?

It doesn't. But one of the things you gotta see first is the cultural barrier. In Japanese there's politeness levels that always must be watched. E.I. Saying Good morning can go:

Oyaho Gozaimasu (Polite)
Ohayo (Casual)

When interacting with a JP, I try to be as Polite as possible. NA players have a more relaxed attitude and this is may be why it looks like they're rude. I've most of time done well when PTing with JP players. And when inviting one I start with Sumimasen (written) {Hello!} and ask whatever. Starting with {Excuse me...} supposedly does little sense.
Give this a read, or better better yet the whole thing..
When I have to explain something that its very hard to do in Auto-Translate I use a web translator, and I follow up that I can't read or understand it and that I am using a translator(I can read Hiragana, but thats pretty much it). So far never been called a GM or anything.

(Apparently I can't edit if using only Username D:)
+ I hear the podcast japanesepod101.com, they teach a lot of cultural insights about Japan. Has been really useful in understanding JP culture. ^^

I wish JPs would stop lumping us EUs together with the NAs. There are a lot of shitty JPs so they need to stop thinking they're the best players and just accept that it's been 6 years now and us "invaders" aren't going anywhere.

I wonder if FFXIV will have mixed servers again. I'm thinking yes. I doubt SE would change it.

I think it'll be good with mixed servers. Only playing with EUs/NAs/JPs kinda sucks and maybe JPs won't hate us as much if we start playing at the same time.

Not trying to single you out, but that is the view that makes JPs (and a lot of other nations) believe that American's are rude and ignorant of other cultures.

The JPs have a very traditional set of social rules and politeness is a core requirement and you can never expect them to respect you when you can respect them.

I think they wont, but au contraire from FFXI beginnings, looks like both versions are getting released simultaniously. If so one thing I can see (If server selection is added from the beginning) its segregation by the players. Word will get around that this server is mostly JP and this one is mostly NA and so on.

I personally haven't encountered a lot of anti-English sentiment on my server, and on the weekends have had plenty of JP people in exp parties and respond to shouts in Aht Urghan for missions and that sort of thing.

As to why they are anti-English, besides the cultural reasons think about all the douche bags you've come across in-game...the ninja lotters, the Aht Urghan shouters, the *** RDM who can't cast refresh/haste to save his life. I bet not one of them was JP. I have never had a lazy, incompetent, or douchy JP player in a party. I think that the fact that a lot of NA people are rude/idiots has a lot more to do with it than innate cultural bias or differences over play style.

Also we always lose the Astral Candy and then wait for them to go get it ^^;

Try playing WoW :P It's far worse in that. I had a character on a server that had a lot of spanish speaking people, and a lot of the english speaking people on that server were flat out *** to them. It irritates me so much to see people so intolerant/ignorant to other people's cultures.

It doesnt, but just like any other nation thers a small minority giving the majority a bad reputation.

The big one that annoys me that a few, and i mean a few, of the americans ive encountered do it blindly forget theres some countrys other than america. Usually someone bitching our endgame shell runs too early for them to join us. Yup, because it was built by europeans, youre not the only timezone im afraid. The mentality reminds me a joke regarding america winning the baseball 'world'series every year.

But, as i say its a minority and most of my ingame friends are from the states.

I think the problem is the world just hates the USA. I could say something along the lines of screw you all, but I am better than that.

Anywho, I enjoy the Japanese players, they can be really helpful to you at times and are very very polite. Yes there are those select few with the [I'm Sorry] [I dont speak any English] [Party] [No thanks] but i dont let that bother me. Their loss especially when im Cor pulling.

To be honest, if there is any region I consider to be the MOST racist, would give that nomination to Europe (Primarly England). Why idk but I have met some pretty rude and ignorant True English people (yes I said "True" because they are). And to all you english people who want to reply hate crap about me ragging on you I am half english myself so one of your own technically is saying your rude. But my american side of me is saying GET OVER IT.

Final note: Its just a game. It's not worth dramatizing in a video game and causing depression and anxiety over where someone is from. Suck it up people. really.

PEACE!

I have heard that if you use actual JP text (katakana, hiragana, kanji) but you are on a non japanese account, JPs will sometimes GM you for 3rd pt tools. copy/paste from websites of japanese text is only possible if you use windower. If you want to put something in japanese in /seacom or in /tells, use romaji (alphabetical letters).

How do you copy/paste when using windower?

I'm using windower from time to time when playing 2 accounts at the same time. But never used all the gadgets and wht not in windower. Could be useful to be able to copy/paste in seacoms and stuff.
