Another thing to note is how the ITG intuition prompt might lend to this. You're probably right. I think things are pre-placed too ...but only discernable server side.
In my case, the best occurrence (which is also my rarest), is when you have 1 ITG on the floor opened already and 3 chests remaining. You have a 2/3rd chance of witnessing chest 9 convert to rainbow or prism, followed by a terminal coffer, which can also be ITG. However, post-12/10 update, I encountered this situation again but with the added possibility of 2 ITGs being on the floor. So, this means that 3 ITGs are 100% possible, and 4 ITGs are theoretically possible (2 ITGs on the floor, last chest converts to rainbow for ITG#3, and finally, the terminal coffer returns ITG#4.)
I am jealous you've been able to track to that conclusion x.x.
I've been tracking my trove luck for the past 8 months, and it's... not great. Many tinfoil meltdowns.
Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts here. Take all of your $1 mules to 99, no subjob, and get those silver vouchers every month. (Even just the first 4 RoEs give vouchers: free Mars Orb, Home Point, Unity, Auction something), it all adds up.

This is the first time I've ever seen a Sagasinger from Troves at all.
Has anyone ever seen a Sagasinger specifically before the ITG patch on November, 10th? I was able to confirm just now that it only comes from an ITG pool:
(Noise, ITG, Noise-from the Terminal coffer).
Also, I like to /kneel at the terminal coffer for superstitious reasons. :)

The only Sagasinger I've seen from trove is dated 11/14 so that tracks.

Hey so, if you open 8 chests, isn't the second to last chest supposed to change colors? At minimum, changing to gold?

Unfortunately, when SE added ITG thuds to Mars and Venus orbs, they added a feature where the 9th chest doesn't have to convert to rainbow or gold. I actually REALLY, REALLY dislike this choice, because it adds risk of losing ...with no appreciable reward. It makes no sense to me why they think this is a good idea.
Note: I've only observed no-conversion on Mars Orbs only, not Venus orbs, so someone please share if you see otherwise!

I did a Venus Orb over the weekend where I successfully completed it. For final two chests, one turned into a gold chest (not rainbow). I had something like 3 loud thuds, 4 thuds, 3 noises. There was one of the hints about a possible ITG sound to be made, but it never appeared.
Drops were Cath Palug Hammer, Moonlight Coral, Beitetsu Box, and some other random stuff. 3 Nibiru weapons.
I also did a Mars Orb where I picked the Mimic on the first box, and a second Venus Orb where I picked the Mimic as the 5th.

What's the consensus on Venus vs Mars? Worth the extra vouchers with the changes? After the changes, I considered doing Venus orbs but had worse luck on thwacks with those.
I do a few hundred orbs a month and have been quite happy with Mars drops still.

I've just done some mars orbs and got one ITG thud:
I also noticed a new annoyance with Mars orbs. My final 2 remaining chests where both brown (1 mimic and 1 formerly gold/rainbow chest that is now brown/ordinary). This is in-line with the update notes ...but it is so easy to pick the mimic in that situation.
