I have looked through Config, but I do not see any command to set the volume on the character I am currently using. If this is possible within Windower, please let me know. I desperately want to bind hotkeys for various preset volume levels without having to navigate the clunky XI UI.

It is not currently possible, tho this is popular (and I would love it myself) so never say never.

Could open an issue on the windower github and mark it as "feature request" so that we do not forgetto.

There is a /mutebgm and /mutese command in game.
Mutes background music and mutes sound effects until you zone.

There is also a "play sounds in background" toggle in the FFXI config out of game.

Both are only a choice between sound and no sound though.

It is too bad to hear there is no direct control, but I might be able to work with mute command. I assume muting the sounds in the background means all non-active windows are muted?
