But god forbid I prefer reading books in a game. You sound salty to troll other people's gaming preference by calling their preferred game ***lol. Why does it bother you that people like reading dialogue in games? Yup, I like reading dialogues (or low dialogue story telling) in games, deal with it. He didn't say that he didn't like reading dialogues or story telling. He is saying that the current method is lazy and not immersive at all. I wonder if you understood that and decided to deflect, or your comprehension skills are really subpar. Anyways
This seems like the perfect time to remind everyone that if "buying a game isnt ownership", then piracy isnt stealing. *IGN posted that tweet today even though the content of the article is dated. There is prob some blue haired tard somewhere working at SE head office that thinks that pixel art is R culture, look at that fking bee sticking his thingy at people. DISGUSTING!

The sad part is the people they are hiring to check this stuff will absolutely point something like this out, so the artwork will be changed at the design stage and you'll never know the lunacy the devs have to put up with. It's not about what it is, it's about what it can be misinterpreted as by some middle aged white woman with purple hair. As shown by the censorship of Siren, it's not about what it is cause it's a shell but what it can look like to some and that's why it needed to be covered up.
found out the footballer guest character being added to Fatal Fury City of the Wolves was banned from Las Vegas because of rape allegations. so an odd decision to add a real life person (2 actually) to an established fan favorite fighting game series became even odder given his reputation.
SNK has fallen far from their old greatness Ronaldo is probably the most popular soccer player worldwide, and big in South America. Fighting games are big in Brazil, from what I understand. Maybe Panta has better input, but it seems like playing to their audience. Don't think much of the target base cares that he had a rape allegation almost 20 years ago.
Kaffy said: » allegations So nothing then, this has been abused so hard it's lost all meaning in current year. It's made up as a smear more often than it's proven to be a real thing. I thought C.Ronaldo was added because Ronaldo's team owner and SNK owner are the same: Which is Public investment Fund in Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo plays for Al Nassr FC, 75% of it is owned by Public Investment Fund. Public Investment Fund also owned 96% of SNK in 2021 according to an article. Source: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/snk-saudi-arabias-96-ownership-doesnt-affect-us-in-any-way Ronaldo's team, Al Nassr FC: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Nassr_FC From business perspective, it makes sense to promote your best soccer player in your own game, to utilize both assets to the fullest. Can't say if the target audience overlap though, I don't know that much about Saudi Arabia's fighting game and soccer industry. Taking a franchise with a well established game universe and roster of characters and inserting real life celebrities just because of shared ownership is a terrible idea. They are completely out of place in the game world and end up pissing off fans of the game who don't know or like these celebrities. It looks like a forced decision from the higher-up, not a vision from the creators. But what can SNK do? It's pretty much a Saudi company operated by Japanese now. I highly doubt they can tell their boss (I think it's the prince?) a big "No!" if their boss ask them to put his favorite soccer player in his own fighting game lol. I think SNK is innocent in this... SNK has had a terrible history as a company, no doubt. Most of my discontent is being such a big fan back in the 90s when they were at the top of their game. But yes, they have changed hands many times and the new powers that be are trying to capitalize on old IPs in the worst way possible.
On a completely different note, Blue Prince looks really unique and fun if you like puzzle games.
Saw something interesting earlier,
Ryosuke Aiba was the original art director of ff11 and character designer of ffxiv, he has been working on a game that is due out 2025-2026 called project awakening. Not much to know about it yet, but the trailer looks cool. Quote: Ryosuke Aiba After joining Square in 1997, Mr. Aiba worked as a 2D and 3D artist for Xenogears and Chrono Cross. He was the first to assume the role of Art Director for FFXI and was involved in designing backgrounds, monsters, and character textures. Mr. Aiba then departed from Square Enix to join Hideo Minaba and others to found CyDesignation, Inc. in 2012, assuming the role of Director, where he has been involved in developing Rage of Bahamut and Project Awakening for Cygames. Kaffy said: » the footballer Bruh, C.Ronaldo is more popular than all FGs combined. He promoted the game back in September with the vague subtitle "a legendary player joins a legendary game", leaving people wondering whether he'd be a character, but was not seen in the (pretty much accurate thus far) roster leak, so months later people assumed that'd be the extent of his involvement with the game. Then his trailer dropped out of nowhere in April, which created a huge buzz on the internet. His addition is the best exposure for the game you can get. And, from what I've seen from local & international players, the reception of the news has been positive. Now, Salvatore Ganacci, on the other hand... yeah, who the *** is that guy? That pretty much has been everyone's reception. He's a Swedish DJ & I heard he contributed to the game's soundtrack. Some expressed disappointment over a potential slot for their favorite character that hasn't made it to the roster yet taken over by a no-name RL guest character. Others worried this is setting a "dangerous" trend for future guest characters in FF and FGs. But after seeing his gameplay, I'm keeping an open mind. Watch the first match (Ronaldo vs SG) & tell me this isn't fun man: Of course, you have every right to not like the addition of either character. To their credit, SNK isn't just lazily adding them though, they seem to have put good effort in desiging their gameplay. Ronaldo's use of the ball is reminiscent of Lucky Glauber. If Salvatore was an original character & not a RL one, he'd probably be very well-received. He looks genuinely fun and well-designed. And regarding the acquisition by the Saudi PIF, I don't think there has been any influence on their creative freedom, because you only noticed it now with big news like Ronaldo making it to CotW. Perhaps the only influence was Najd, the KOFXIV DLC character, which is a Saudi character concept-designed by a Saudi woman (chosen by SNK art staff from a character design contest they held on social media). Najd has been positively received from what I've seen on the international KOF Discords I've been on. ![]() Najd only made it to XV as a season 2 DLC character, a year and a half after the game's initial release. She feels more like a nod to Saudi fans than a forced addition, and SNK has a history of doing that. That was how we ended up with Ángel and Ramon back in 2000 & 2001 (both were nods to the Mexican community). Only Street Fighter 3rd strike came close in terms of animation quality and detail. So to me the game has a special place in history.
I haven't really liked anything after SNK went bankrupt in 2000, so I admit I'm pretty biased. Both CR and SG movesets look ridiculous and completely out of place. If the majority are happy with his inclusion as a character and not just a promoter then so be it, I'll just have to deal with it. Ragnarok.Zeig said: » I don't think there has been any influence on their creative freedom, because you only noticed it now with big news like Ronaldo making it to CotW. It's just my intuition, I feel C.Ronaldo is a decision either aim towards Saudi market, or has Saudi influence in it. Soccer is not the most popular sport in Japan, baseball is. Japanese baseball team is ranked No.1 by WBSC and they won the last WBC(highest tier competition) championship. Japanese Soccer team doesn't have this kind of performance in FIFA. And the baseball player that represents Japanese baseball culture is definitely Shohei Ohtani. (In case if you don't know, he is one of the best MLB player and basically has national hero status...) So if I am a Japanese producer aiming for Japanese target audience and must choose a sports star to promote the game, Shohei Ohtani is the better pick than a foreigner playing soccer in a foreign league. C.Ronaldo just doesn't feel like a very Japanese centric decision, that's all. But since Saudi owns SNK, it makes perfect sense to aim for a market that they are more familiar with. And I can see that if soccer is popular in Saudi Arabia, then other FTG players who used to play Tekken/SF may change their game because of C.Ronaldo. Afania said: » It's just my intuition, I feel C.Ronaldo is a decision either aim towards Saudi market, or has Saudi influence in it. His inclusion aims at the global market, just like every other guest character in modern FGs. Plus, SNK + football are very popular in Latin America. Is FTG very popular in Latin America? From what I've seen, most Evo participants and champions are either from the US or Japan, so I am under the impression that US/Japan is still the biggest FTG market, and I was kinda surprised to hear that major FTG player demographic overlap with other regions that are more into soccer.

Evo participation is dominantly American because Evo takes place in America, travel is expensive, and it's held in Vegas, which is also expensive to stay at. You won't see as many Japanese, Koreans, or Latinos, and many of the foreign regulars are sponsored. I'm not sure if esports sponsorships happen in LA nor the scale of it. Not to mention that many US players are of Hispanic and Asian background. Lost Soul Aside coming out in 6 weeks. Seems all platform release too.

If the majority are happy with his inclusion as a character and not just a promoter then so be it, I'll just have to deal with it. I feel the same about Ronaldo's art and animation style. I have to agree, I was slighly emotionally disappointed that SNK IP is no longer Japanese centric myself. It feels like a long time member of a family leaving lol. But my stance in this whole thread is that an IP owner has all the freedom to do whatever they want with their own property, since they are the one who is taking risks and responsible for the result. So the same stance that I had on Blackrock also applies to PIF here. I'll support whatever idea that they want to use in their own game, because that's the rule of this business. Afania said: » I was slighly emotionally disappointed that SNK IP is no longer Japanese centric myself And I'm not gonna talk about how characters like Gouki, Noctis, and Clive, despite being from Japanese IPs, feel out of place in Tekken. What's new about Ronaldo & Salvatore is that they're RL people & not videogame or TV characters, but you can think of celebrities as essentially characters. Ronaldo doesn't even voice himself (not sure about Salvatore but it's probably the same for him). And their design is all by SNK = Japanese. I suspect they decided to make Salvatore extra goofy in the spirit of Duck King, a goofy Fatal Fury character who is also a DJ & dancer. People are acting like a goofy character or two already ruined the game lol. It's still gonna be Fatal Fury through and through, these characters are just extra. They're not the new protagonists. The producer stated their intention to bring back all FF characters, and we already have Ken and Chun Li from SF6 as other guest characters, so they have big plans for this game, and those 2 RL celebrity guest characters are only part of their marketing for a larger crowd, and they finally put the game on your radar, so I guess the marketing stun worked :) https://x.com/maxxclark/status/1910124045468651952?s=46&t=-vCMotN_XLykPy3wZ-8quw Kaffy said: » Garou Mark of the Wolves was arguably the pinnacle of 2D sprite art and a great fighting game to boot. I think the weird looking part of Ronaldo is that whenever I see his in-game model and face, I feel this guy is from rl not a video game. The connection of him with rl kinda break immersion for me. And Japanese designers normally don't make this kind of immersion breaking decision.
Darth Vader and Yoda's model is at least "fantasy" enough to work with Soul Calibur, and they are blade user anyways. So I can pretend SW character entered a time travel portal from an alternative future dimension to avoid immersion problems in my head...kinda..... Geralt and Ezio works in SC perfectly fine imo, they have way less immersion problems than other guest characters in your examples lol. I always feel Noctis and Clive belongs to Soul Calibur, not Tekken. It sure was weird as hell when I saw Noctis in Tekken years ago. I was like "shouldn't this guy appear in SC instead?" But Soul Calibur is dead, and Tekken is still alive. So I thought putting Noctis and Clive in Tekken is a pure business decision too. Why would anyone put those character in a dying IP? At least they are Japanese though >.> Tekken is alive but not really in a good spot either.
