It’s been down since at least yesterday, does anyone know the site’s owner? Their skillchain calculator is amazing, and it would be a shame to let it bite the dust after being recommended by so many people on this game

Did not know it had added the Primes, thanks for the heads-up! Downloaded new version! But yeah +1 to the recommendation, FFXI Calculator has been the gold standard for me for years. It's overly complicated... Flippantry is awesome. PLEASE COME BACK!!!!! Archive/Waybackmachine doesnt have anything current.

Yeah, the "this is better" comment seems laughable as if there's a difference between the same basic decision tree-esque information both tools would be showing. Whichever you find more friendly from an UI perspective which will vary by individual. Offline
Well one relies on a website being up, the other is offline and can be used by itself.
So yes, it is better. I think its interface is sloppy, and their hosting site could also go down before someone got the chance to download it, possibly after SE added more WS in the next 3 years.
So not really. Bismarck.Demetor said: » their hosting site could also go down the *** irony You say this, while ignoring the fact to download the “offline” tool requires the website to be up in the first place? People could have also downloaded Flip’s tool to a local file while it was live. It’s not a unique property of either tool. Bahamut.Kaius

I am already working on a new web-app version like Flippantry's. I am wondering which mode of Flippantry was everyone using the most often? For me personally, it was the first one - just pick a weapon skill to start the chain, and keep building up.
Did you all use the other ones often? Like X weapon Y weapon and make Light? Honestly I barely used anything other than that first main mode, so if anyone can provide the details on what else he had on there, that may be useful. Also, are there any other features you think would be good? Thanks! Better to add it as a function to the in game addon, tell it you want light with x skill/pet/spell and x skill/pet/spell and it will show you the possible options etc

Someone should work on that, it sounds like big business. Someone should work on that, it sounds like big business. Despite the lack of a fancy “download” button, as I mentioned before, anyone could have actually saved Flip’s tool to a local file and even shared it if they were so inclined. It would work regardless of the host status. I respect you may not understand this. Both tools “require a website being up” as much as the other. A new user needs the original host to be available or for someone to share the tool with them. Judging the tools on their actual merits, Flip’s is undoubtably cleaner on the display side, but people who have used FFXI Calc forever will obviously find it familiar, and it’s stupid to call one better than the other on these subjective tastes. Great, since anyone could have might have should have definitely has saved it then there is no issue with the website being down.
Glad it all worked out. Offline

Pick two weapon types, show every possible combination that avoids <element> skillchains. Being able to select more than two weapon types for this would be even better. I used both the first part and second part about equally. On the first part to plug in sortie-specific WSes to see what I could chain and not get the wrong element. And the second part is useful for a ML party in which you have a few DDs who need to figure out which two WSes chain the best to make light/dark (also used to figure out which DD to bring to the ML pt). So as the above poster said, a negative element filter would be very nice for avoiding certain elements.
It'd be almost trivial to make an addon that scans your party and tells you what skillchins are available (filtered by number of steps, desired element, and involved jobs). I might make it when I have some free time, in 2037.
We'll still be doing Sortie by then I imagine
