This is basically what I did. IIRC I did:
It's more or less what I did on Sheol A solo, before I got bored after a few weeks.
You don't mention NMs though.
How did you pop them and when?

There's 16 NMs in Sheol A and you need to kill them at least 6 times each.
If you do one per run that's at least 96 runs or 96 days.

NMs are easy when popped on floor 1, from a Solo perspective I found only Gloios (the slime) dangerous.
Their strength scales up pretty quickly though. Still somewhat doable if you pop them on floor 3, past that it gets tough for solo and, I assume, even for duo.
You went THF/NIN + GEO you said, right?

Also how did you handle Mimics popping up from Aurum Chest? I bet it wasn't easy on THF+GEO if it popped on an upper floor, especially if there were mobs around etc.

Sheol B has even more NMs and they pop with adds and frankly I didn't have much time or will to even try B solo. My mastery in B is just level 4 or something.

I suppose he popped both the select able NM and the random pop one on first floor while doing the select able one first cause if the random one pops gloios without being prepared the run ends, or at least it was that way for me on BLU solo.
Doing both helps speed progress up early on but stops helping much once you cleared most of them 6 times.

You can do the same on B but with at least Taniwha and Kuk being a potential run stopper it's more risky but maybe still worth it early on. For Most of the B NMs 1-2 trust tanks will buy you enough time to deal with the adds, at least if you already leveled MM a bit from shoel A.

I suppose he could have went GEO/BLM and tractor if mimic pops but I guess it doesn't matter much because if you target chests you'll be close to out of time anyway when you gathered enough points to upgrade to aurum.

It takes forever and since it only opens up a fraction of gaol even at max MM I don't get why they made it this way.

Not Byrth but I farmed and carried pop items for all the NMs I still needed - status report will tell you how many times you've killed an NM - and only forced popped the ones I needed.

Avoided the nasty AOE NMs on the higher floors, slime, the casting ones, charm etc. Also the pop item cost goes up per floor, was better to pop on floors 1-3.

Points were used only for chests, until aurum cost was capped.

In C these were done by farming since groups just do C.

Solo or with mules? Job?
And I guess same approach with Sheol B, just more annoying because way more NMs, higher ilevel and they all pop with 2 adds.

Duo/trio. I took Sam, my best dd, and one/two buffers.

On B same approach - and FYI better to zerg the main NM first then worry about adds. They don't hurt much and are usually a one shot from a good DD. If you have a brd alt give yourself a minne and pdt/defense sets.

B was the longest because a lot of NMs and a lot of pop items to carry around. I also had to farm most of it because wtf sells that junk.

I don't know how it is with a party or if you can just 1 hour thru it with SAM but on BLU it seemed better to target pets while trust tanks would buy you time on main NM.
I guess it also depends on the aura and if you have access to crowd control to separate them as killing the pets can clear the aura.
Maybe it also clears their 1hour but most likely it just is over once finished with pets.

IIRC adds only come out <50%. It's dangerous leaving the main NM up while low health, and some 1hrs are dangerous too.

Obviously switch to pets if it's invincible or PD. Blade bash/lunge/sweep works well on the nms.

I cannot fathom why Fujito refuses to +3 Ambuscade gear when it's so easy to add. He can add new materials needed that players will need to farm. of he is worried about people having stockpiled.

If a player refuses to engage with the long winding path for af etc upgrades they need another path they can travel, he can't just say well fk you then as he is. He is just going to lose casual players.

JP players have asked this again and again and he refuses to engage with it.

Imaging you're a new player or casual player on a new job, and you have to upgrade through so many different kinds of content, with massive costs and grind like that.

He is unironically killing the game for many players, becasue he is so stubborn into wanting to force players into one avenue of gear upgrades.

Could also add more ambuscade weapons, maybe just remake more of the pulse weapons with ilvl equivalents with their same unique bonuses. Really need a marksmanship ambu weapon too, preferably both a gun and a xbow... I just need something to use all these pulse weapons I have on.

Ambuscade armor +3 upgrade requirements? (besides the new items paid with ambuscade currency so you couldn't stock pile it a head of time) 1 pulse armor for each piece!

I fk with this part

I'm not sure what they would do with more weapons though.
The 1h weapons arent of much use offhanded and there are already plenty of choices. How about upgraded glowy armor?

Honestly, what's killing the game for me these days is the playerbase more than anything. So much of the playerbase has shifted to multiboxing that if you're one of the rare people who don't, you just struggle to get things done since the multiboxers (in my experience) rarely if ever do things with real people and the other rare single character people tend to either avoid the content altogether or just end up quitting.

Though I will admit, requiring shield crafters for the new gear was definitely a bold choice after saying they'd focus more on solo players.

It makes me sad we never hear anything about Matsui now, he never even comes back for any of the shows. Imagine devoting most of your career to a passion project you care about, and then being replaced cause the management wants to save some money and then never spoken of again.

Absolute trash company.

The trust update also sucked.

Matsui would have never done it this way, the time gating is unreal. He is making you pay $ every month to get a few upgrades to your trusts linked to monthly RoE.

If you ubsub, you lose upgrades of the months you're away and so the grind is just extended. Fomo.

Absolute outrageous, just trying to slow walk the players along for as much money as they can get.

If someone wants to grind it out 10 hours a day for 2 months to cap them, let them do it. What is this mobile style BS.

Huh. Business doing business things. Bad?

You have to play for a full year to unlock the only good healer.

The goal is to keep you subbed.

Maybe - and the jury is still out on this - the finalised trust updates will make trusts + one character a viable option where previously you needed 2-3 characters at the least.

Can only hope they also remove the 3-character requirements in the places where these still exist.

Yes, this is from the POV of a solo-first player that needed to multi-box to get things done prior to trust updates.

It's so brazen and this is supposed to be content people play the game for.

They made us wait a year for this as one of the main things to look forward to, and it's mobile fomo crap.

"here's a little bit of cake, now wait till next month for a little bit more"

fk your cake

It was less annoying for Monberaux cause we had so many tusts but this is a whole other level, and it seems this is his entire business / content strategy now.

Was already sick and tired of the kind of slop content we pay for, which again is fomo time gated crap

He is really pushing his luck and testing peoples patience for BS.

All things I've been saying for 10 years. This isn't new.

Except he's not testing anything. Addicts gonna addict.

You're going to stay subbed every month.
You're going to log in every day.
You're going to hate life as you grind limbus/sortie into 2030.
You're going to complain about it.
It's going to fall upon deaf ears.

1% of the playerbase might wise the *** up and bail. Congrats to you if you're in the 1%.

FOMO might not be a new concept, but rigid time gates that can't be made up are relatively new. There's obviously a strong shift toward kmmo / mobile RPG tactics.

If you look at old lockouts, they often result in a several month delay but there's no long term penalty. Limbus and Dynamis gear were relatively plentiful and could be capped in months for a competent group. Einherjar ampoules were rarely the bottleneck for mythics. Assault tags could be limiting at times for ??? pieces and it took some time to get captain, but you could catch up and be caught up. Likewise for coalitions.

New lockouts are attached to things that take literally years to max out. Prime weapons, Limbus augments, and even Odyssey augments(to an extent) are a much longer timescale than the prior systems. Psyche and matters are time gated past number of entrances, so better performance doesn't even let you make up any time.

There's clearly a shift toward content where if you take a several month break you'll be visibly behind the cutting edge players with no meaningful way to catch up. Of course, the counterargument is that you are still comparably powerful so it's more a matter of prestige than practicality. Perhaps people should just get over the idea that they need to be BIS.

Closest thing to what we have now were assault tags pre-nerf which were recharged daily. It was like the Omen system where you can stack tags and do 3 runs twice a week.

Even the old assault tags system was less punishing though. Missing a day didn't cost you anything, you could do one run a day or wait a couple days and do 3 runs twice a week.

The has to be daily system is very much designed to get you to login and do your chores every day.

I say chores because if you lack choice on when to do something and it is forced upon you then it becomes a chore, aka not-fun.

The shift towards "daily" stuff happened slowly like, what, 2 years ago? 3 years ago? Maybe more.
I find it obnoxious, at least to this extent. Having some things on a daily basis would've been fine but having so many things bound on such a rigid daily basis is really stressing.

I'm curious though, is it really working for them in the long run?
I mean, if it's not working for Sechs but it's working for the majority of players out there then I'll be very sad to say it, but I can admit it's ultimately worth it for them to pursue this goal, even if it stresses out people like me who, allegedly, are a minority.

I'm just wondering if that's true though. What if they started this approach and then never verified if it really works or if it actually makes things work?
How do you even measure that? Numbers of average paying players I guess.

technically it started with Omen

It started as 6-man content and Gobbie didnt hold extra canteens. Both of these restrictions were relaxed March 2017.

Depends on your definition of "dailies". OG Salvage was one entry per RL day IIRC. Certain NMs spawned once per day or 21-24H repop, which if you had the ToD, you could keep it for a length of time to yourself (I did this with Padfoot). But this was buried behind the immense depth of the game, and common goals like leveling and crafting took priority over daily stuff, because it took so much more time.

The real shift towards daily content in FFXI feels like it came around/after the time when Freemium mobile games had daily content or bonuses. I specifically remember Pokemon Go, FFRK, Candy Crush etc kinds of games that would have event bonuses or daily login prizes/spin boxes/mythril etc, handing out free stuff just for playing every day, you almost felt compelled to log in so you didn't miss out on your daily spins. FFXI followed suit shortly after with a variety of daily/monthly content. I feel like the Gobbie Box and Login Bonus was the first iterations into that model that FFXI took, but maybe I missed a few others.

That model seems to be the only sustainable way for them to continue to retain or attract players, probably due to FOMO (you unsub, you fall behind). As a result, more people started multiboxing and hording mules to increase spins/roll odds. Now nobody can ever complain you never have anything to do, because you always have to log in every single day/week, or you miss progress. It's a genius and insidious model, really. But people's minds are short-sighted, and they need constant reward systems now, or they'll get bored and lose interest. It's still a business at the end of the day, THEY need YOU to keep playing. But YOU don't need to keep playing.

I can understand some people feeling stressed to an extent, but IMO the only people who feel overwhelmed or stressed are the people who can't relax to the fact that this is a game, and you don't have to do everything, every single day, all at once. It's completely fine for goals to take hours, days, weeks, or even months if it is worth it. But when people stress over having to get EVERYTHING DONE before the next day ticks over, that's just unhealthy. It's fine to let your canteens tick over a few days because you forgot. You lose 30 swarts, you'll live. You don't need 10 Limbus runs a week. Your hand will not fall off. R-E-L-A-X

put in more days/hours, get more rewards. such is every game you've ever played.

no one was forcing you play/login to camp HNMs 7 days a week rotating your sleep schedule to do so, but if you did you'd get more rewards.

To be accurate I haven't played for 3 months (other than one account I keep for modding stuff). Limbus was crap and it made me unsub, I was thinking to come back for trusts but it's equally crap cause of implementation of the upgrade system so I'm not gonna bother.

I was waiting for this for a year, and it sucks.

I genuinely don't know why you thought it was going to be anything else.

Even when they add the second part with gear, it's not going to magically make trusts not suck balls. Just suck slightly less of them.
