Its only natural people who like XI probably wont like XIV, not sure why that still bothers people on a forum for XI. The xiv launcher is def better as you can get into the game very fast, but you can't deny it isn't stuffed with ads for their cash shop. Maybe its a feed from that lodestone site but every single time I open it, they have cash shop new items.
POL is another one of SE's ideas gone wrong because they abandoned it. The idea itself was pretty neat and ahead of its time, it kinda reminds me of a form of discord. They really need to get rid of it at this point though and just let us log right into the game with minimal input, DCing is a horrible experience when you have multiple characters.
I'll defend XI too even with its many problems. I've even tried getting some of my XIV friends to play it with the results of its too old, too slow and too many menus.

I hope they just turn up at my house and punch me in the face. At this point it’s just a super unhealthy relationship between us and I hope someone sees them do it, sits me down, and has a good long chat about how we need to go our separate ways after years and years of abuse.
I just need a reason to leave, and sadly, no matter how bad and uneventful this is, I dread to admit the fact that I know it won’t be enough to make me leave this game.

Let's be honest. Even if we did get punched in the face and had the sit-down chat, we'd still be back until we're finally dead enough inside that it overrides the FOMO. Especially while being behind in any of the content that SE still won't nerf so returning and new players can catch up.

In fact, the only reason why I came back to XI in the first place was to prove to myself that it wasn't as good as I remembered. But no, it wasn't just nostalgia. There's something about the game's openness and flexibility that no other games bother replicating because that's not what draws in the big crowds.
A game's rigidity is tied almost 1:1 with its accessibility. Accessibility brings in the crowds. That means options are limited for those of us who like exploring without constantly tripping over a game's rules.

I play XI as my raiding game and XIV as my casual game. I have come to grips with my gear in XIV not being viable after 2 patch cycles (unless I think the glam looks good), but I don't go out of my way to get every piece of gear I want like I do in XI.
I've tried a bunch of other MMOs and most games now to see if they can hold my attention and that doesn't happen very often. When they do, it's usually peer pressure that keeps me around, either people I played with on XI or XIV play it as well or RL friends play it.
I will admit that XI can use some modernizing, but SE should be able to give XI it's own coat of paint rather being a shell of XIV.

you can already pass through newer dx using dgvoodoo, using a newer dx doesn't make ffxi multi-core friendly, and ffxi uses the gpu plenty with or without dgvoodoo (for that matter, increasing gpu optimization and adding multi-threading wouldn't even make a difference to most players because they're playing on hardware far superior to what xi demands)
you honestly have 0 idea what you're talking about, and the incoherence and random bold makes me think you're working with severe mental impairment, but at least you're having fun with it

Best take on the wife analogy is that you should help motivate your wife to lose the weight so she lives longer and both of your lives are more enjoyable. You can't force SE to improve XI, but third party developers have done quite a bit to extend it's lifespan and address it's ailments. A relationship isn't a convenience, it's a commitment.
Granted, if you see FFXI as analogous to a life partner.. there may be some other deeper concerns at play.

We've been over this a million times, you can't vote with your wallet for this game.. They will just pull the plug. We are in a unique situation because they have another MMO that directly competes with this MMO for players and they would happily shut this down if they could move the majority to that game.

I'm not saying they can't, I'm saying they won't. If you expect square to make any sort of wide sweeping changes for the better, you are delusional. They no longer have a single programmer who is intimately familiar with XI's internals. They aren't doing a remaster. They aren't putting it in a whole new engine. They can't even make it stable in the current one, their C<>S model is an absolute tragedy and third party developers legitimately know more than the current employees tasked to FFXI do at this point.
They might add a cash shop, but I can't fathom why you'd want that in the first place. The rest is just pure delusion, and you don't even understand what you're asking for well enough to ask with such specificity.

Hell, dgvoodoo has had more effort put in upgrading it than XI has for the past several years, you are completely oblivious to it's purpose and what it actually does. It's purpose is not to "reduce lag."

Not everyone has English as a first language.
What are people's expectations for the 20th, sometime I think most people were expecting big things such as the mobile remake which some people were also claiming would come to PC so we could have a proper remake to play but those plans seem to be canceled and I myself kinda have lost hope for the anni, I think it will mostly be the usual all events into one and the empy+3 usual patch now w/ mastery lvup and that will be it?....
Although I do remember that they mentioned in a patch that when empy+3 hit it would come w/ job adjustments so I guess that could be it too.
Made this topic cause it's always nice to see what people think ahead off, so, What does everyone think we will get?
