Would be nice to see just the next best servers with a more condensed vertical axis (200-2000?). The chart of all of them makes it hard to see how far apart the remaining 13 are. I would have guessed Shiva, Ragnarok, and Phoenix were the next contenders, but FFXIAH has Fenrir and Carbuncle up there too. Curious if your data shows the same.

Edit: Also neat that Odin seems to have a bimodal distribution. It's known to be a JP server; might be because more of them log off at night than other regions.

Wish people would stop using imgur for the British posters who can't see them.

i've seen the question a lot with asura/bahamut being locked down where should people go?

probably odin/phoenix/fenrir would be my suggestions based on NA populations.

odin has a ton of JP players but the NA population is still decent and the AH will probably be more stocked, that being said it isn't far off from bahamut levels so who knows if SE has plans there..

i'd probably go to fenrir if i was starting from scratch today but it'd be a bit of a coinflip between it and phoenix

every time someone in the uk sees that warning image, it's good for them. cause it reminds them what their government really is

Thanks. I think they could merge the bottom 4 servers into two from those numbers, still leaving a handful of quieter servers people can multi box and bot on.

i've had the opinion for a while that they should merge the bottom 6 or so, but people would not like that.

i also think instead of shutdowns they should have split asura (let people choose but keep it controlled like blizzard does)

as stated though - people would hate it. but it would lead to a much healthier game. random new player that is just playing through all the final fantasy games for fun and makes a character on sylph is going to not stick around once they get to a city and its a ghost town. just my 2 cents though

Yes, of course use vpn. That it's required is part of the problem.

1- No ones picking up FFXI, a 23+ year old game, because they want to start a new MMO character on a whim with zero knowledge of the game. Any new player is likely getting some direction from someone or somwehere like reddit, not doing it blind.
2-But if there is a unicorn picking up FFXI and playing it completely blind because "theyre playing through all the FF games for fun", they wont be hanging around long term. Theyre gonna do the missions and then leave Vana'Diel to go to Ivalice.

i used to think that too, the amount of people i've seen that are playing through the final fantasies for one reason or another or come here from ff14 is not 0 though.

also the guides historically have said "pick asura or bahamut"

that's no longer an option, which makes it even a more dire experience when a new player logs into an empty sylph server.

i get what you're saying but i disagree from a game health perspective, which i don't think is the lens you are looking at it from

I mean, you act like this is a gotcha but this is literally the approach people have on Asura. It's very insular. Lots of people sixbox content or just do stuff with their circle of friends/LS. Few people pug and it's usually the same six or seven people; the rest of the shouts are bots. The only difference is that lowpop servers just have less competition, less spam and an emptier AH.

It's the empty AH (and lack of mercs). People who want a large population that actually plays the game are on Bahamut.

EDIT: Also don't akchually me on the numbers, it was just to represent my point. From a health of the game standpoint obviously all servers will not be equalized, but incentivizing players to move away from the top couple towards the middle/bottom number or evening out the DEAD bottom servers to make more mid sized servers creates a better overall experience for players. The argument that a few people prefer to roam open worlds without interacting with anyone to make their empys or w/e isn't really relevant. For all intents and purposes, even if the bottom 4 servers doubled in population those players would still not notice much more in terms of congestions or competition. Speaking from an Asurans perspective where there's "Way too many people" here, and its already not too bad to do whatever you want on any given day...

There are no 2k sized servers anyways. If you merged the two smallest servers, it would become the 4th biggest server.

If you are on a small server and hate it, you've had 19 years to migrate. 19 years is almost 3 grand USD worth of subscription fees, so dont tell me $18 server hop fee is a dealbreaker, considering there are usually two separate discount campaigns per year reducing the price to $9 USD.

I don't disagree that there are a lot of people that do that. I also think they should be banished to small servers.

If you hate the server you're on, but you keep paying $12.95 for your miserable experience instead of paying an extra $9 to server hop to a 5k++ pop server because you believe it will make your experience better, you're an absolute *** fool.
