Mastery Rank Data
QUESTION! Do we know if Key Items effect Mastery Rank? Debating on going through Abyssea and unlocking every KI from each NM lol. But if we know it doesn't count, I won't bother. Thanks!
Really doubt it, but we don't know
It could go either way. Atma definitely. Abysites definitely. Quests definitely. Pop KI really doubt it but there's no info. Sorry, I was asking about the Atmas and Abysites. I should have been more specific. My b. Ranked up to 9 on my main and 7 on my mule when I got the Venerated Adventurer (Vanabout) title. I confirmed I was 8 before it, got the title, confirmed I was still 8 after it, opened the equipment menu and waiting for the loading animation, opened the title menu, closed everything, reopened it, still 8. Did the same on my mule, still 6.
Zoned, now I'm 9 and 7. So zoning may be required. Zoning being required was one of the very first things I found
So many people have said otherwise since then but they're unreliable. I killed Vrtra, checked, zoned, checked, +1 Grats on 9, one of less than 9 that are rank 9 This was also my experience previously, but I've seen it claimed that actually you just need to open the equipment menu. Not so, I assert!
I believe the addon that tracks your mastery level gains only updates on zones. so that makes sense.
I went from MR4 to MR5 today, unfortunately I didn't check WHEN it happened.
I was MR4, then I claimed my Vana'bout title and then went and did my chocobo digging for the day (went from wing 21 to 24). Not really any crazy new data, but there you have it. Congrats! Now steal my account and make that one rank 9 as well, ha

I find it interesting that this one put you over. Edit: NVM i saw your post on the last page from the 23rd where you were at 1025 total titles at the time. Did you get any new titles since that post? Nope!
I do suspect that vanabout's title is pretty valuable. I'll go see if I can delevel by losing a medal of altana later. crazy00 said: » I believe the addon that tracks your mastery level gains only updates on zones. so that makes sense. What addon is that? Losing Medal of Altana dropped me back to 8.
Finishing a crafting shield (specifically getting the title) pushed me back up to 9 (without Medal of Altana). I got Medal of Altana back and am still 9, of course.
If I look only at the things people have ranked up from, there are still a few things for me to do: * Neo-Limbus: Can always climb more * Craft Shield: Could make another 7, but it's not clear it would count. * RoE / NM Titles: Aminon kill * Fights: 4 more Master Trials Less well-supported, but maybe: * Crafting: Guild hop and get the missing GP items/titles * Skills: ML50 enough jobs to max every skill * Very/Extremely Discerning titles: fffff However, it doesn't feel like there's enough stuff (even assuming all of that counts) if the gap between 9 and 10 is bigger than between 8 and 9. Got Vanabout title this week also and no rank up to 9, i would argue its just another title before putting out anecdotal evidence from a single data point. (Or to the argument immeasurable until they give us a dam progress bar) I didnt realize you could lose the medal of altana, i could have sworn SE changed that over 15 years ago.
They changed it where you couldn't lose it through demotion, but im assuming you can still lose it by changing allegience?
i dont know i am trying to find a solid answer though. I am sure i had it long ago but seems i an two ranks lower now. I am going to get again but not sure about demotions.
Medal is tied to your NATION quest progress, so if you finish sandy wotg questline to the end, you won't lose medal if you are fighting for sandy. if you change to Bastok however, and have not completed that nation questline, you are still eligible for demotion.
you also lose your two top medals when you change allegiance, so i imagine Byrth just switched teams to force a demotion to check mastery rank, that's what i was doing when i was testing shield etc. too. Strong agree on this, either there is some hard requirement checkpoint that we are all missing (wings of war) or 10 just isn't out yet. you could assume that we have 3 new titles coming from the add on scenario HTBF coming this year, and maybe something for doing high lvl besieged that could contribute. My bug reports for Champion of the Dawn and Fulmination disrupter got accepted (i know that doesn't mean much) but imagine if the only reason we aren't 10 is that the game hasn't acknowledged we've finished wotg? Shiva.Liam said: » i imagine Byrth just switched teams to force a demotion to check mastery rank. This is correct. I demoted myself and dropped down, then finished the shield and went back up to 9. Ten crafting campaign ops and two hours later, I've got the Medal of Altana back. wrt the points something like the Vanabout title is worth, I think we at least have pretty good evidence that there are a lot of small-point items (random quests that don't give titles, skills, playtime, monstrosity's endless grind, etc.) and there are some that are worth more (Vanabout title, Crafting Shield, Medal of Altana). I think you may still need something like 10-20 big point items to go from 8 to 9. One kind of surprising one is that we don't have great evidence that Master Trials are important for Mastery Rank. We've had more people report ranking up by finishing AF3 quests than Master Trials at this point. zeta said: » I didnt realize you could lose the medal of altana, i could have sworn SE changed that over 15 years ago. first swap to another nation is free (W -> S -> B for instance will not lose you any ranks) any subsequent swap loses you 2 ranks Any evidence that having ALL of the monstrosity species / MAXED out vorseals does anything? Those take months worth of work so it would be good to know. Also, gold flag in mentor status?
I unlocked all monstrosity species at rank 8 from basically the start and did not upgrade to rank 9 after that. Missing Spriggans though but oh well. A lot of people have reported ranking up due to monstrosity. Some say they have ranked up when they achieve some objective, like unlocking another species. Some have sworn it was just levels that did it for them. No new instincts, job abilities, or species.
Unfortunately, Monstrosity might be a 100%ing adventure. No evidence that vorseals matter. No evidence that mentor rank matters. It's been brought up before a few times about master trials not meaning much for mastery rank because of the overlap in wording but just throwing it back out there that it's called knowledge rank in Japanese.

May have some evidence on this soon, about to unlock last species this week and all level 60 next. Just thought I'd share this Title Checklist I made. If it's missing any it can't be many.
FFXI Title Checklist Been working my way through Campaign. Got my Medal of Altana finally, have 41/82 of the San d'Oria ops done. What I'm wondering is, are any of these ops going to be practically impossible to complete on Asura? Due to never losing territory or whatever. Trying to make myself a plan for when I hop nations to work on another set of missions and ops.
I'm having a lot of fun doing MR and completion of things. Some stuff is a bit rough, but it's a lot less daunting in many regards compared to some of the achievement hunting in XIV. |
