I am aware of the origin, it was more the relation of todays episode of Steins;Gate just so happening to mention the most recognisable monsters from FF11 while a post on an FF11 forum is recommending Steins;Gate.

Just finished watching Shigurui: Death Frenzy on Netflix.

Below is my review of the series. No true spoilers exist. This is only my opinion of the series. (well not really a review, more just a rambling on it)

Here is an actual review of the series, one I feel does the series justice. Again, no true spoilers.

edit~Sorry for the necro.

Yay necrobump!
I've actually been looking for something new to watch anyway.

Just finished Puella Magi Madoka Magica... ....wow....
((as listed on Anime News Network >> Genres: adventure, horror, psychological, science fiction Themes: evil being, magic, magical girl, mind break, tragedy, wishes, witches ))

This is not your standard magical girl series I will say right off. It takes the genre and flips it on it's head. It had an excellent story I think and plenty of WTF moments.

Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai

As campy as it is, it's still a lot of fun. Hulu is running the series by episode right now.

So sad I never saw this, though I admit I've only gotten into anime recently.
So to address the necro, with likely reposting some suggestions(I'd have read the whole thing but I leave home for deployment in 13 hours...) I will add my new discovered love.

Clannad + Clannad After Story (I know these have been mentioned, I simply have to emphasize them with all my might). High School drama. Absolutely the most powerful story I've encountered in my life(and I was a bookworm, I finished entire school libraries...). I'm a 25yr old male in the army. I was sobbing like a child. So powerful.

Shuffle! Is about a kid in HS that gets propositioned by the King of the Demons and King of the Gods, each offering their daughter in marriage. Mix in numerous schoolmates and life-long friends and it explodes into drama and hilarity. Definitely tied for my 2nd overall favorite ever.

Angel Beats Tied with Shuffle!. The world between life and death where teenagers who were stripped of their childhood due to many circumstances(abuse, misfortune, illness) are able to reconcile. Add in an "Angel" who "obliterates" people and it moves nicely! The end had me in tears, very powerful.

I can't put any in order beyond this because they took my heart in different ways but:

Spice and Wolf One of the best, possibly #3. A traveling merchant gains the company of Holo, the Wolf Goddess along his journeys and they develop a rather interesting business partnership. Holo is the most adorable, mischievous girl ever. Plus, she has wolf ears and a TAIL! So amazing.

Needless is one that really surprised me. Post-apocalyptic anime about a group of humans who gain unique powers who are of course, hated and feared by normal people. Started unimpressive but the story picked up and was quite amazing in how they pieced it together.

Canaan is kind convoluted but pretty great. Reallllly hard to explain except that an experiment left many dead, but the survivors with super human capabilities. I highly recommend to anyone who likes good action anime with solid plot.

This Ugly Yet Beautiful World Very interesting anime about a girl falling, literally, from the stars and changing the life of a normal(or is he?) guy on Earth. Short, but very good story behind it.

Blue Drop Finally the exact kind of anime I'd been hunting for after being introduced to anime's greatness(via Clannad and the like). At first I was skeptical(I don't generally like futuristic alien stuff) but it is so worth it. If F/F(non ecchi, nongraphic in ANY way) bothers you don't watch but know it has the innocence to make it wonderful. I truly loved it. Nearly cried, but didn't :P

Vandread Borderline ecchi. Not nudity but very buxom women in small outfits in this space-based anime about a time when men and women live on different worlds and consider each other enemies. An all-female pirate crew comes across 3 males they capture and soon learn that they are meant to be cohesive, not fighting, and work together towards saving the entire universe from a super threat. Finished it this morning, likely my last finished anime before I deploy. Amazing story. Amazing character development.

Baka and Test Funny, adorable, and loveable. At a magic academy students are tested and divided into classes based on their power. The students in the lower power have hovel like classes while the higher powers have suites. However, the lowly students may challenge the higher for their stuff! Very fun, very funny, very unique anime. I loved it.

Fruits Basket was hard to get into due to the sketch style vs the fluid color animation it seemed to have. Hilarious show though; whenever a member of the family was hugged/squeezed/etc by the opposite sex, they were turned into an animal from the Chinese Zodiac. Super cute, very funny, still had great drama.

Linebarrels of Iron was the hardest anime for me to get into. First episodes I watched out of the corner of my eye, due to my dislike for "mech" style anime but I was bored. So glad I stayed. The characters of the show are masterfully done. While you may want to punch the main character in the face every episode for a while, he grows on you as well. If you like mech-style, you'll love it. If you don't, I'd bet you still love it. Minor ecchi but really negligible. Truly one of the best and so happy I stuck through it.
------

TV-MA ahead. Some is ecchi, some is gory, some is both.

High School of the Dead has a high school infested with zombies, but that's no problem once they escape the grounds... right? Nope, across the world the zombies have spread and are taking down governments. The characters are AWESOME(Saeko is my fav) and the plot grows with every episode. Netflix only had 1 season sadly enough but it was so good. It's super ecchi and super gory.

Sekirei is an amazing show about a group of women out there who are super-powered fighters that once they meet their "Ashikabi" become their champion in the soon-to-be ultimate battlefield. It's amazing. It is ecchi. The characters are loveable and you grow attached quickly. I only saw 1 season(there HAS to be more) but I am Netflix only so far.

Demon King Daimo is pretty ecchi, don't recall any nudity though. Story of a guy who goes to a magic school to be told rather than his dream of becoming a High Priest, he is destined to be the Demon King, ruiner of the world. Amazing story, amazing characters, amazing action scenes. One of my favorites and it was one of the first I saw.

Elfen Lied blew my mind. A super powered girl destined supposedly to destroy all of mankind survives an assassination attempt though loses all her memory and is taken in by two teens. The story will twist your heart and the characters will make you laugh. Truly a stand-alone anime that is without equal for what it is. There is nudity, and TONS of bloody scenes however, so if you don't tolerate such stay clear. If you do watch it though, you will find it a unique experience.

Witchblade was a winner from the start. Beautiful woman who inherits the ability to transform into a mighty warrior who can annihilate evil... at a cost. She does this while balancing being a single mother to an amazing little girl. One of the best animes I've seen, made me think of Guyver from my childhood at times. Similar to...

Claymore an amazing anime about women who are half-demon spending their existence hunting demons that threaten mankind in this medieval-esque anime of awesome. The demons(Yoma) feed on humans, the Claymores, hated by humans, are called in to kill them. The story is phenomenal and more than once an episode left me with my jaw hanging open and sitting on the edge of my futon. Super amazing. Period.

Dance in the Vampire Bund surpised the heck out of me with how good the story was. At first I was skeptical but it truly made you stop and watch. A teen made a promise to protect the Queen of the Vampires, he just has no idea why or how due to an event leaving him without his memories. Major warning though: It is gory of course, it has ecchi, but it also has some "loli" meaning a small girl occasionally without clothing. She is a vampire, so hundreds of years old, but it still bugs some people. No craziness just revealing. If you push past that, it's truly enjoyable. Great characters.

Devil May Cry is as it sounds. It's like the game I hear? Never played it. Didn't need to. Awesome show. The story was very well done and the fighting was incredible. If you don't know the game: Dante is a half-human demon hunter who takes contracts to kill full on demons. Quite a show.

Queens Blade is heavy ecchi but it's one, funny enough, you find yourself looking past the ecchi and focusing on the story itself. The one I saw is "The Exiled Virgin" and it ended rather abruptly which tells me there's more. Google agreed. It's about fighters from around the world coming together to fight in the Queens Blade, to become the new Queen of all the land. Medieval type setting. The characters are VERY loveable and the plot is amazing. Metric tons of cleavage and such but honestly, I found myself completely ignoring it by episode 4 and was completely engrossed in the story. Worth the watch.

Girls Bravo The catalyst. This is what I saw that turned me into watching ALL of the above. years ago I watched Chobits and LOVED it but since have not looked for more. I saw this after watching Cool World(I was in an animated mood) and I admit, the cover was appealing :P As for the plot: Main char is literally allergic to girls. They make him nervous and if they touch him he breaks out in hives. Until a girl from another world shows up and his reaction to her is nullified. One of the most HILARIOUS things I've ever seen in my life due to other character involvement(to quote "Because you're Queen Nutjob of Bat-***-craz-istan?") and as the above, you find yourself pushing the ecchi(and there is a lot of ecchi) aside to enjoy the amazing story behind it. One of the better anime and the one that sparked me into a month of true enjoyment.

Sorry that was so long winded but I hope it helps anyone who reads. I've had a miserable year (while in army training my fiance of 4yrs left me and upon coming back I found out I was deploying overseas.) and I admit, I was -depressed-. Netflix helped me out a bit, things like Bones and lolXena picked me up but once I fell into the Anime, I found I spent every day far happier and positive. While I admit it's "nerdy" or "lame" I have to say this past month of watching all of the above on Netflix turned my attitude around and has been the thing keeping me going. Some taught me things about myself I didn't know, others stirred emotions I had forgotten. I hope any of the above can be viewed with even half the enjoyment they gave me.
I laughed, I cried, I loved in all of these anime.

*edit* Wanted to clarify. While mentioned I figured it would be best to say: 100% of this was on Netflix. Yes, it's dubbed but MOST the voice actors were amazing. Some cut out (multiple seasons, only 1 is on Netflix). I know there's things like crunchyroll and the like but I played FFXI while watching these (sometimes... Angel Beats for example I pushed my laptop away while I watched...). I may check them out while deployed, I may just buy the whole series'. But if you like the above notes, all are on Netflix on demand.

That list is rather good ^^
Glad I'm not the only person who got destroyed by Clannad(mostly after story xD) and Angel Beats.

Edit:
I'll note that from the list I have my preferences.
That list has a few different genre's but I have to say Shuffle!, Demon King Daimo, Baka and Test, Dance in the Vampire Bund and Clannad are some of my personal favorites.

Yum filler?
Some arc's are better than others but I'm only like 110 episodes in.
Have little interest in watching like 250 episodes because I know some of them will just be waste of time.

Here are some of my obscure recommendations I haven't seen listed yet:

Moyashimon - Probably the only way I was ever going to learn some sort of microbiology was through a cutesy, casual show about a person who can see microbes entering a university.

Legend of Legendary Heroes - An anime which the title pretty much sums up, an adventure with magic, dragons, magic dragons. This show based on light novels was a trap, it was so good and invited the thought of more seasons to it but now I'm stuck wondering what happens afterwards (If you pick it up, you've been warned).

K-On - Lastly K-On, a school type show where a bunch of girls create a band for a club and shenanigans ensue.

Glad it could be of some use, sorry it's so long :P

No Trigun because I haven't seen it yet! EVERY anime I listed above I watched this month. Every one took my breath away. Every finale I was left breathless wanting more. I'll add Trigun to my list :)

Sadly for now, if it's not Netflix it's difficult... however since I'll be in Fort Shelby soon... I may look into the web.

If anyone wants to list some ones similar to my above ones available online in dub I'd love it.
(I don't mind subtitles but I rarely have time to dedicate 100% attention to a screen, let alone on a base ; ;)
