concentration camps
I find it particularly offensive to call the US facilities concentration camps. The survivors of Nazi camps actually survived brutal conditions, inflicted tortures, beatings, starvation, medical experimentation, and mass executions. Let's not marginalize their suffering by comparing it to a location where the detainees have 3 hots and a cot.
There were concentration camps before, during, and after WWII. The USA had concentration camps during WWII. Germany had execution camps during WWII, NOT concentration camps. To be fair they are called concentration camps and share features with concentration camps.

Quote:
Concentration camp, internment centres for political prisoners and members of national or minority groups who are confined for reasons of state security, exploitation, or punishment, usually by executive decree or military order. Persons are placed in such camps often on the basis of identification with a particular ethnic or political group rather than as individuals and without benefit either of indictment or fair trial.
Encyclopædia Britannica

P. S. I'm Jewish. The entire european branches of my family were murded by the nazis. I have no problem with the term concentration camp being applied to trumps border facuilities. I have BIG PROBLEMS with their existence.

This is just Americanizing. Americans try to differentiate our own actions from others because we don't like being in the same category as the people we are fighting against. Its why we call them Japanese Internment Camps instead of concentration camps. But we don't want to ever talk about places like Andersonville.

Modern day example is domestic terrorism. Right now our society will call our own terrorists anything but that word. Criminals, murderers, mentally ill, you name it. Anything but terrorists, despite them being exactly that. Stephen Paddock, Timothy Mcveigh, Omar Mateen, Dylan Roof, all terrorists. But society doesn't remember them that way. They were just very disturbed people with problems.

Many of the border facilities existed before Trump, and some of the pictures and other media that are used against him were taken in the Obama years. That being said, I understand if you have an issue with them, but let’s be very clear that the term “concentration camp” is almost always an attempt to directly connect something with the German camps of the WWII era. Let’s not pretend that anyone in here is trying to do otherwise.

Yes, in general throughout grade school the camps in Germany are the ones used as an example in teaching; however, once one progresses into higher learning institutions, that knowledge expands into the full understanding of what concentration camps are. They have existed many times throughout history, even here in America. Some just don't get that far in education.

In fact, in our conversation from last night neither Nazi nor Germany was brought up. I was using the phrase in the generic sense and, perhaps falsely, assumed you were understanding it that way as well.

Comments like that are the reason we can’t have nice things.

What would be considered "nice things"? Concentration camps & KKK pep rallies?

My response was to your comment, and your comment alone. I was speaking generally, but concentration camps in the same sentence as Trump refer to the ones at our borders, if anything. This can't be that difficult.

This is nonsense.

Trump and his family (and almost all his businesses) were left out of any bailout money, because Democrats demanded it.

Also Democrats do the exact same stuff, when they can.
Oh? This particular tax cut is about deprecation on real estate, the major business of both Trump and his son-in-law.

Concentration camps aren't only or solely related to Nazi Germany though. That's a very... limited knowledge understanding.

Boers, Japanese Americans, etc.

This is true. You can’t mention them in the same post chain as someone mentioning Hitler and expect people to not draw a connection, though.

“No, not that kind of concentration camp. I was talking about the kind of concentration camp from the definition I’ve never read in a context that nobody ever uses except when subtly trying to make Trump look like Hitler even though the last president had them too!”

Yeah, doesn’t work.

No they weren’t, because it was a quote chain. The conversation didn’t happen in a vacuum.

You questioned my meaning, and I've clarified it. There is only one person that knew what I meant, and that was me. But let's go with your theory, since you've known me all my life and know me better than I know myself. Seriously, I cannot fathom why you become so overly obsessed with minutia.

/yawn. Going Godwin has never been unique to any political party, you can just type obama hitler and get the exact same nonsense. Its never been effective for anyone. Selectively ignoring the fact that both sides are just as guilty is cute tho. Its not a "leftist tactic."
