He'll just blackmail the economy open and then blame states when it fails.

He can't make them reopen but if they refuse then they get no more bailouts. No more unemployment, then the states have no choice. Then we see mass infections again.

"no one could've seen that coming I take no responsibility, I didn't make the states reopen"

He can't stop any of those things from happening, he already signed them into law. As President, he has no authority to reopen the economy, just like he wasn't the one that shut the economy down. All he can do now is ask impolitely. But his full meltdown was hilarious.

It's not what he can or cant do legally. It's what he thinks he can do and what the senate and supreme court will ignore while he does it.

Trump is a right wing populist.

He talks like a populist, but his actual policies are bog-standard GOP, which is why McConnell and co line up in lockstep.

Bernie failed twice.

I actually think he's more or less played it to a draw. He's managed to push the party platform leftward, which isn't a win but it's not a loss, either. Look how much more mainstream the idea of M4A is now than it was four years ago.

Trump has done nothing to push the GOP in any direction. They are in the exact same place they have always been.

How can they? They've been doing it the entire time so far.

Money is the only "motivator" he needs

Kinda fits with Trump's desire for our country to become totalitarian. It's clear why he admires Kim Jong-un so much.

How can the senate and supreme court ignore him overriding the rules? I thought this was the whole reason people say America's political system is good, because he is kept in check by these.

If the NY governor doesn't want to reopen NY, what power does Trump have to force him to beyond refusing to give out the money to help?

Most of Trump's illegal moves don't even get to the Supreme Court intact, a district court stops them cold and he has to appeal and have less than a 50/50 chance at getting a favorable ruling, but most of the time he goes to the Supreme Court with his action on hold. But that takes a full year. He only has 7 months till the election, which he makes easier for his opposition everyday.

In this case, there is nothing he can do to force private businesses to reopen, just like he didn't close them. He can't stop the money, he cant stop my unemployment benefits, he can't stop my stimulus check, he can just lie on tv about the power he thinks he has. May 1st is going to come and go just like his 15 day plan, just like his Easter plan.

He'll find some way to say your state is in open rebellion or something of that nature to withhold all federal funding.

You have to think like a cartoon villain, there's no other way to accurately describe trump.

This was specifically with regards to Trump passing off the virus as a democratic hoax while failing to act for the 2 months that this threat was increasing exponentially.

Doing more does not include him announcing his total authority over the states and this country.

Doing more would be him working with Congress to get stimulus packages passed without adding the GOP pork to the proposed bills.
